  1. Nice bit of selection from my post. I was replying to someone else and agreeing with them that all pay increases lead to inflation and saying that in my opinion the way to deal with low pay is through the tax system, and that's what the forum is about opinion. You say public sector employees will leave, I don't think so, where will they go to get the same terms and conditions, pensions etc? Perhaps a few but certainly not many, I worked in the public sector for a while, the first job I'd ever had with sick pay and couldn't believe how many were taking advantage of it and always moaning and saying they were going to leave, even when the chance of enhanced redundancy came up only a few applied for it. As I've said on the public sector pay thread whenever it's suggested that public sector contracts are put out to private tender the employees and unions are always up in arms because they know pay and conditions will be worse. I know plenty in the private sector doing physically demanding jobs who would have jumped at the chance of working in the public sector and getting early retirement. By the way, I've quoted all your post and not just been selective.
  2. Public sector employees and unions are always up in arms when there is any suggestion of services being put out for tender to the private sector. You would have thought they would have been all for it as their wages and conditions don't come up to the private sector standards.
  3. Totally agree, would you believe some people are arguing on another thread for an increase for public sector employees. As someone who voted Labour til Gordon Brown became PM I think that George Osborne had got it right by raising tax thresholds for people on lower incomes. But I don't think he went far enough, I would personally like to see thresholds raised to a point where people working 40 hours on minimum wage didn't pay any income tax, and partly pay for it by cutting benefits for the skivers who have no intention of working. That's one of the reasons I still can't vote labour, even as someone who would be a natural labour voter as their referendum would have immediately led to higher inflation again leading to higher interest rates penalising anyone with a mortgage, and no we haven't got one.
  4. Seems like a good summing up, anyhow CW seems quite happy about the situation and with his record with the players he's brought in that'll do for me.
  5. Flopping heck, do you mean toasters are also supplied? We've never rented a house but when I was a kid we lived in a council house and my mother and dad bought all the electric appliances. I know some houses are let fully furnished and on short term lets, but then I would have thought the rent paid would reflect things like pat testing and any other requirements like that.
  6. Only just seen this, but wouldn't any item the landlord provided need pat testing every year otherwise I could see all sorts of problems arising. And yes I know not all lawn mowers are electric but most of the ones I see being used round about us are.
  7. Yes we've had those in Spain, also the Spanish crisps the ones in a clear bag are so moorish I can't put them down til the bags empty, even the bigger bags.
  8. Do the regular blades think that Stearman will be a better option. I don't get to the Lane so much nowadays for one reason or another but on the occasions I went last season EEL looked a decent player with plenty of commitment at that level but I thought he got caught out of position a few times which he might not get away with that at the higher level, and from what I've read about Stearman most people seem to rate him.
  9. Thanks for the advice, but I don't want to stand out, we like to join in with the local culture when we're on holiday.
  10. We're starting to be put off now, we were thinking of going to Sheffield's European quarter for our next holiday instead of Greece or Spain. I was looking forward to the local excursions as I've always been a bit of a sightseer, it looks a bit like Venice with the crumbling plaster and dilapidated paintwork. Then at night go to a local bistro before a stroll on the prom. I could also do a bit of shopping as I could do with a shell suit and I believe it's the only place you can buy them now apart from Liverpool, mrs gomgeg also fancies some Lycra leggings and sparkly tops, mind I've got my doubts about the leggings as I'm not sure her backside is big enough. Well, I must go and look on trip advisor to find the best accommodation and transport options, I was thinking of going in the car but my hubcaps and stereo are fairly new and I find I always have problems achieving motion when the car's on a pile of bricks. I'll let you know how we went on, you never know it could be the up and coming destination for us Europhiles.
  11. Me too, after 50 years working and I still don't have the time to spend all day on here, I certainly wouldn't have when I was working.
  12. Jackanory Jackanory Jackanory Jac............................
  13. Another labour voter are you? who wants everyone who works hard and is successful to pay for the feckless and benefit breeders.
  14. Yes, they lost the referendum, losers just like I said. Think about that, if you can.
  15. It's a bit sad that you believe just because you say it you think it's true. As I've said before on here if you tried to be a bit more pleasant you might even make a friend, sitting in your bedroom sulking just because the other kids you claim to know are picking on you because of your attitude, and sneering at others is also a bit sad. In reply to your original post where you said you went to a party on referendum night and the students burnt an effigy of brexit leaders I said they seemed like sad losers, which obviously they were. I don't include my grandkids in that because they have been brought up to be self reliant and are hard workers just like their parents were. As for student tuition fees I've said countless times on here I don't agree with them but remember it was a labour government that brought them in. But unlike you I would pay for the tuition fees by cutting benefits for the feckless and benefit breeders, but you just want to tax the hard working successful members of society, one of which I don't believe you are one for a second. Otherwise you wouldn't be able to spend every day on here from morning til night.
  16. Got a lot of grandkids have you? Seeing as you think you're an expert on everything. You don't like Tories or Tory voters. You don't like anyone who's been successful, and want to tax them to subsidise the feckless. You don't like people who voted for brexit, forgetting that about half of Labour voters voted for it. You don't like grandparents who help their grandkids. You're on here all day making up stories about working. A while ago you asked me on here if I thought you were one of the liberal elite, I said then no you didn't need to worry, nobody regarded you as elite anything. In fact I said that when I read your posts I was reminded of David Brent, and I've haven't seen anything since to change that opinion. The fact is that you are one of a diminishing minority.
  17. That must have been a fun gathering, a sad party attended by sad losers. I wonder what they were studying? Probably a level one in lethargy, or how to fill in their benefit claims.
  18. When I had a blood test a while back I had to wait a couple of weeks for the appointment. When I said to the receptionist 'I could be dead by then', to be fair to her she said 'well you won't need an appointment then'. When I said 'yes but I don't want to appear as a missed appointment statistic', She said I would be let off just this once. Nothing like some of the dragons that have been on the reception. She was absolutely brilliant.
  19. ??? Yes its strange that, wish I'd thought of it.???
  20. There's a lot of generalisations there. We don't have any resentment between us and the grandkids. Education is still free up to uni, and the great majority of my generation didn't go there anyhow. Healthcare is still free, do you pay for yours? I never had a job for life. We struggled to buy our house without benefits. There's more employment rights now rhan ever before, i.e. My missus never got maternity leave. A benefit cap over twenty grand. And you say people can't afford food, you're taking the shaving water. You say the Tories are all criminals who only care for the rich, well you probably haven't noticed that employment is at an all time high. You are probably yearning for the return of a labour government, nationalised industries and moaning about Thatcher closing the mines, and then leaving a note for the next government saying 'there's no money left'. Well good luck on that one.
  21. He'd be a good signing for any championship club, I was going to say but not for 10 million quid, but I suppose that would be the going rate for someone to help get promotion to the premiership.
  22. We were at a car boot sale last year, on one of the stalls the bloke had what looked like one of those hunting knives about 12 inches long. A lad who looked about 14 picked it up, started waving it about and stabbing the air with it, he asked the bloke how much it was and just as he was telling him I said 'you're not thinking of selling him that are you' he asked me why? and I said it was probably illegal and anyhow the lad was clearly an idiot. He then refused to sell it him, but probably did later after we'd moved off. The point is knives are easily available to anyone who wants one even with the present laws, but personally I think the law's about right for guns in the U.K. So that they are not easily available unless the law is followed.
  23. Yes, we used to hear 'Rammel' for rubbish. Another one my mother used to use was 'skerrick' meaning a little bit of something.
  24. You live in the USA and have a gun at home? I may be wrong but didn't you until very recently live in Chesterfield? Without going into the rights and wrongs about having a firearm at home I would find it worrying that you were able to acquire one so quickly.i would have expected extensive checks to have been done on the gun owners suitability.
