  2. Well it took rest on my front garden for a while earlier! I looked out of the window and saw all of the police first, then saw a cow wandering up my drive. I thought I was tripping! It wandered around the back of my car and as I opened the front door it actually tried to get in the house. The coppers blocked the bottom of my drive with a car and there was a stand off for a while as it stood chewing my plants. They brought a van up and it bolted off down the road (Gleadless Drive). Apparently it knocked an elderly lady over shortly after as she was trying to stop it. Don't know where it is now.
  3. Also in S12 and they're outside emptying ours now. I may be going against the grain here but I much prefer a late collection to having them risk it in the ice and snow, possibly having the wagon slide on the ice in our narrow crescent and hit a parked car. Or have one of the binmen slip over and hurt himself!
  4. The section below Morrisons isn't any more. My mum lives on that stretch of MH, where they've put the new parking lane, but when I visit, it means I either have to sit behind all the other traffic queueing down the hill, or illegally go down the now permanent section of bus lane, just so I can park up. Of course, I always seems to get behind some r sole that's trying to force their way down the inside and in to the traffic, or worse, drivers trying to block me because they think I'm trying to sneak down the inside of them
  5. I 'cleaned' a HDD for a relative recently that had some fairly sensitive stuff on it. Used the MOD spec option in Eraser to overwrite all the sensitive stuff, then did a full format and re-install, put it in another machine and filled it full of random MP3's, then Erased it again! Could be called OTT, but he wanted to be sure it was clean.
  6. I don't think there's a 'catch' as such, but I'd avoid this sort of deal like the plague! Paying nothing for a year might be OK for a sofa or a dining table, but it'll be a killer when buying a car, due to deprecation. Taking a very rough example: You 'buy' a car for £10,000. Adding finance and interest you're financed for £12,000. You pay your £99 and now you owe £11,001 on the car. A year later, you've paid nothing off the finance, but your car has deprecited, and is only worth £8,000. You'd have to sell the car, and find £3,001 just to settle the finance! Take this on another year: You've paid your £99 a month (£1188 ), but the car has depreciated a further £2000. You now owe the finance company £9883, on a car that's worth only £6k, Nearly a 4 grand deficit!! The longer it goes on, the more you get into negative equity, and the harder it is to get out of. (I'm not saying Carcraft is doing anything wrong in advertising this deal, merely pointing out the pitfalls with it)
  7. The only trouble with redeveloping a petrol station are the costs involved. My company looked into it a while ago, whilst looking for alternative premises. Just to use the forecourt area to park cars on required digging out all the tanks, or having them filled with concrete (or so we were told). The costs made it impractical.
  8. I would highly recommend myself! I'm the painter at a small, family run buiness in Aughton, near Swallownest. No job too small as they say, we'll do anything from a minor scape on a bumper, up to a full respray, colour change, or restoration. Give us a call on 0114 287 6400, and ask for Phil (the boss) Cheers, Andy.
  9. On the electricity side of things; I used to have 7 overclocked PC's running SETI 24/7 - certainly made a big difference to the bill!! Just having something like this running in the background during your usual usage will make no dicernable difference though, and won't slow down your PC either, as many people seem to think, as most are set as 'low priority' and will 'give way' to any other programs that need the CPU.
  10. Yep, my fault for trying to keep it simple. I thought my post was already complicated enough for some to understand, without going into the use of divider ratios to enable memory to be clocked slower than FSB. Thanks for the correction, but I'm sure you'd agree with the main point I was trying to make - that the memory itself doesn't set its own speed, but is 'controlled' by the motherboard (and dividers), which are both ultimately set by the BIOS.
  11. Memory doesn't have an in-built clock, so it will run at whatever speed the Motherboard 'tells' it to, which will be 2 x FSB for DDR. The DDR or PC rating is just their theoretical maximum. So provided your Mobo is running at an FSB of 166MHz (giving a memory speed of 333MHz) you should have no problems. The DDR 400 will just run at the lower speed, as said above. But if you are trying to put 2 sticks of DDR333 in a machine running at DDR400 (FSB 200MHz) then you are likely to have problems, as you are overclocking those sticks (running them faster than their intended maximum). Running fast memory slower, will (almost certainly) not cause any problem, but trying to run slow memory faster probably will. Hope that makes sense
  12. Rather a puzzling comment. If you feel the company are so bad, why are you so eager to get this free speed upgrade? Surely no amount of speed can make up for poor customer service, and if you feel so hard done to by them, why not just look around for another provider? Personally I've always found their service very good. I had a hiccup over usernames when I moved house, but on the two occasions when I've needed Telewest's help (builders cutting through the cable!!) they've been extremely helpful, and very prompt with repairs.
