  1. Your a star Shoeshine, keep on shining! I am beaten - back next week amigo for round two!
  2. Shoeshine...yes, you have the right to your say and no, you, are not bizarre but Shoeshine.....your saying the 'poll tax was fair'.....oh Shoeshine....what are you like? Right, I am off for a cuppa
  3. I think Mr Miliband may be waiting in the wings...
  4. Yeah Malibu...I don't think they will recall the details somehow...their own Torygraph readers in the City trying to undermine the Bank of England, making a mint off the taxpayers money and the Govt throwing millions at the problem and incidentally, who was the senior advisor to Lamont during that fiasco? Mr Cameron step forward please. Boom and bust I think they called it, or should that be boom and dust Mr Cameron? I also remember paying 15 % interest on my mortgage during that period, inflation at 7% and still an unemployment figure of over 2 million. Putting that aside...oh I forgot..record house repo's, massive balance of payment arrears and slow growth figures. Lets remember the poll tax too...yes viewers, that wonderful system where the poor paid the rich's local taxation. Also the total inability to get their heads around the concept of Europe in any shape or form. Here's another one...'back to basics'..what a pearl of social policy that was. Not forgetting their willingness to sell every state asset off to every wheeler dealer that came along, lining up their future directorships in the process...happy days right:nono: I agree Shoeshine...wages are not high enough and with good strong union representation they may have a chance of being higher. Do you think employers pay us out of the goodness of their hearts? Bizarre. As for living in a South Sea bubble economy - we are not living in the 18th century and undergoing an industrial expansion, although your economics clearly are...bizarre to say the least
  5. Yeah, I agree Shoeshine. These kids should not be at university, they have neither the skills or ability - pack them off to where they belong...you know where....coalmines, steel works, foundries, engineering firms, ship builders, factories, textile mills, print works............ In this city we lost 100,000 jobs in ten years, we lost our means of work, heritage, skills, traditions and means of supporting ourselves. Most of the big firms, yes, they went overseas to South Africa, Namibia, where they could pay poor non unionised workers a couple of quid a week..are you seriously try to suggest that is what you want for our citizens? Is that the best you can do for our country? Our kids, the next generation, retrain for a new service sector based economy and you start barking; denigrating their hard work and efforts? Education has changed, the economy has changed, the world has changed...ask the majority of European Govts which economy they would like to have at present... To coin a phrase...'Rejoice!'...now who said that?
  6. I thought this thread was about - if Gordon Brown would make a good Primeminister...not picking over the past failures of Thatcher/Major
  7. You are driving a car along a busy road and you see a bus stop on your left hand side. There are three people waiting at the stop. There is an old woman who looks like she is about to die. There is a person who saved your life a year ago. The third is the person of your dreams, your ideal partner in life. Your car is small and you can only offer one person a lift. What is your decision?
  8. I think you make good points here Recently Charles Kennedy resigned due to his battle with the bottle; have a look at this description: '…..he often wept in public and cited maudlin poetry. He told jokes and stories at odd times – he needed the laughs, he said, for his survival. As a young man he talked of suicide, and as he grew older, he said he saw the world as hard and grim, made that way by fates and forces of God. β€˜No element of his character,’ declared his colleague Henry Whitney, β€˜was so marked, obvious and ingrained as his mysterious and profound melancholy.’ His law partner, William Herndon said, β€˜His melancholy dripped from him as he walked.’" Mr Shenk relates that depression was a constant throughout his adult life. He never overcame it. He never rose above it. His life was one long unceasing litany of sorrow. At times, he completely gave in to his condition. He would fail to get out of bed. He would behave very strangely. He would alarm his friends and associates with his madness.' Any guesses at who? No not George W!
  9. It's being discussed right here and with some degree of maturity. Rethink's strategy therefore is working, is it not?
  10. I think shoeshine confuses age with wisdom
  11. Concur with your opening line here
  12. What you write is valid to some extent but your missing the point Churchill suffered with psychosis not only crippling depression - he had suffered delusions, paranoia and he had a heavy drink problem accordingly - the guy also heard voices - the guy had serious issues and yet he led us to victory in the darkest hour of our history and Europe's.....can you not see Rethinks view here? This campaign is by Rethink - who represent people with serious mental health issues - Churchill had serious mental health issues along with his wartime Foreign Secretary, Anthony Eden who incidentally battled against Bipolar depression all his life and later became Primeminister Rethink are saying you can have serious, serious issues and still demonstrate ability in work, leadership, creativity, resolve, debate.......... I think we should embrace Rethink's stance
  13. Do you think Gordon Brown has the qualities to make a good primeminister? Should Blair make way?
  14. Rethink are trying to say something about the prevailling and appalling attitude many people still have of people with mental health difficulties (1 in 4 of the pop) I have to say I have been gulity of of misleading attitudes toward this subject in the past The symbol is of a straightjacket - yes mental health is a problem but society also a problem coming to terms with the issues - quite rightly. mental health is often referred to as the 'last great taboo' If the British electorate had been aware that Churchill was a manic depressive then and even now - Churchill would never had been an MP let alone Primeminister - period! Rethink are trying to confront our fears, prejudice and ignorance of mental health issues.........we need to think harder about these issues Phew!

  22. It seems you feel (and perhaps others) that he lets the 'side down' a bit by accepting and then - 'no show' In the end, you have to accept, for what ever reason (and there are plenty of variables) that this is how this person is. You can encourage and good on you if you can but it's his life and we all have to accept that people are different.
  23.
