  1. Fair level of hypocrisy there then you would agree? I would imagine only a very small percentage of council business is urgent, so there is no excuse for not pre arranging meetings, or whatever it is they do, that cannot be reached by public transport. Lots of us have important business to carry out, and we have to make the best of the bad lot they have lumbered us with.
  2. Regarding the town hall, of course you would think of the old town hall (although I believe this also has vehicular access at the rear). I think it was the new town hall (Egg Box) that had basement parking for council staff.
  3. I did do a search and wasn't expecting to find this from 18 months ago, shocking > council staff free parking summary Hundreds of Sheffield councillors and employees have access to free parking despite politicians urging residents to walk and cycle more. Some 377 councillors and staff can use parking spaces in council buildings, a Freedom of Information request reveals. Have you ever passed through that taxi waiting area? The drivers sit there with engines running (or did). The air is rank.
  4. I didn't see @AnnaB post. Driving anywhere is not a free for all and never has been. There have always been restrictions and sensible ones are welcome. As regards town hall staff having free parking spaces, whilst attempting to drive everyone off the road, it was reported at the time. Probably The Star, I'll try and find a link but it was a long time ago.
  5. When was it ever a free for all? I was a BT engineer working in the city centre back then with a job to do. The plan was to cause queueing, to p*ss drivers off in an attempt to encourage them not drive around Sheffield city centre. Cars and busses stood with engines running at low speed, causing huge amounts of pollution and wasted fuel. My argument is that traffic that has to enter the city centre, should be enabled to move safely and freely, park easily, get the job done, get out. Of course the council top brass still kept their free parking spaces at the town hall. Fair? ok.
  6. The council admitted planning (and carrying out that plan) to "funnel" drivers off the road years ago, and it was featured in The Star.
  7. Whatever you believe regarding the CAZ, and I do believe in making the air cleaner for residents of Sheffield city centre. Sheffield council has been at war with drivers wanting to enter the city centre, for about 25 years (maybe more). They are not to be trusted to fairly run the CAZ.
  8. Appendix 5.10: Charging Private Cars Q32 If the Clean Air Zone does not improve air quality enough to meet legal limits, we may have to introduce charging for private cars. To what extent would you support such a move?
  9. I used to work on Queens Road from 1978-86 with a 7:30 am start. You could park on Charlotte Road for free all day. Also all the side roads opposite what is now B&Q. You could even park for free on Queens road itself outside of peak periods. South Street, Park Hill used to be free parking too. There were lots of places that have now become restricted or permit.
  10. Personally, I have an issue with anyone being exploited.
  11. FFS, we're talking Sheffield city Council here.
  12. I live in the area but not directly affected. Traffic entering the proposed traveller site (travelling showmen - not gypsies?) and the industrial estate, I think, will add to the congestion and poor air quality at busy times, but not significantly. The design of the whole Drakehouse retail area is terrible to begin with, getting on and offsite, especially at weekends and even more so bank holidays, can be horrendous. I'll be honest and say I don't want another gypsy site locally. In recent years they camped illegally on the large field at Littlemoor and left a disgusting mess. Similar reports all over the country. If I was a resident on Springwell, I would be concerned too. There can't be many advantages to having a gypsy site and an industrial estate at the bottom of your garden. I can't see how the increased traffic argument stands up, especially when people made little protest about Tim Hortons etc and now Burger King, and expect it will be thrown out. I do believe that people should have the option to live differently, but that shouldn't have a negative effect on anyone else.
  13. Anyone have the link to the planning application? not the petition. I searched the planning site but couldn't find it.
  14. I thought the proposed one at Drakehouse was for travelling showmen?
  15. Yeah, I remember those times. We have had constant globalisation and centralisation over the years though, so those local shops (for local people 😆 ) have all but disappeared.
  16. No they are not, how many times have you heard - "I'm sure I speak for everyone when.." or "The whole country is united..." It will just join the rest of the royalty tat in charity shops, once the fuss has died down.
  17. Am I right in thinking you're a right wing political supporter (if not I apologise)? I am no supporter of SCC but the government you support has hardly been squeaky clean in the efficiency department. Bonkers
  18. Are you suggesting the local authority are being economical with the truth? Any evidence to back up what you are saying? If you read my post, you would have seen that I suggested it is highly likely that a 15 min zone will exist inside the LEZ. In fact if the radius of the LEZ is 1 mile (15 min walk), the whole of the LEZ could also be a 15 min zone.
  19. You saw the light and decided never to read that prejudiced pile of sh*te ever again??
  20. Confused. This thread is about the 15 min zones that intend to make everything more localised, and offer an alternative to driving everywhere. The LEZ is a restriction that allows traffic to enter an area, on payment of a fee or fine. This is only intended for commercial vehicles. Will that remain the case? personally I doubt it. It is inevitable that traffic will have to enter 15 minute zones, for dropping off, unloading of supplies etc. But the 15 min zones won't necessarily be inside the LEZ (but could be). If outside the LEZ and you decide to use your car with a 15 min zone, then you are liable to be hit with a fine for contravening a restriction of access, but you are not allowed to pay a fee upfront to allow access. The intention of 15 min zones, is to allow access and egress to the 15 min zone but not access through it, which suggests lots more one ways, no accesses etc to stop traffic flowing through. However you may, upon request be issued with a certain number of permits to allow you to override the 15 min zone restrictions. Summat like?
  21. Why do you believe other people should enjoy it? Shouldn't they be allowed to make up their own mind? Really winds me up when the media (for example) choose to speak (wrongly) on my behalf. I just want them gone.
