  1. Thankyou for that,I think you're right,as soon as you mentioned peter st,it came back to me. Don't know why I thought it was upperthorpe, but as I said ,I was only very young. I must try and find out what happend to the business and June Adamson, her and her husband were lovely people, thanks again for the info ---------- Post added 03-03-2015 at 13:45 ---------- Then again, wasn't peter st in upperthorpe? Lol ? Confused.com!!!
  2. I was only a whippersnapper at the time, but we used to get our meat delivered every Wednesday and Saturday. The butchers shop was based at upperthorpe and was a husband and wife business, the wife doing the deliveries in their little mini van,she was called June. I think their name was Adamson or Adams ,can anyone help me please?
  3. Like it....... A tin of paint stripper might have a posative affect!
  4. it depends on the type of car alarm, some go off just by rocking the car, some won't go off until you act.ually get the door open. The police should have been more helpful,as causing an obstruction is an offence, and they should have got someone out to tow it away immediately. They're quick enough to do it to vehicles illegally parked in town /city centres. I would have been so frustrated,I would have probably done something that I would have later regretted, good luck and I hope it doesn't happen again. A note behind the windscreen wiper might help to prevent a reoccurance
  5. How old was your uncle? The Ian bacon who was one of my best mates would be 53/54 years old now ,and used to live on howl gate. I remember his mum was scotish and his dad was called Walt
  6. Just had a look thanks Erin, very interesting reading
  7. Cheers for that info Nigel, that's jogged my memory,I remember now. Think it was probably because a lot of people still called it the capital at the time. I also remember capital caravans next door to it with the 75&76 bus terminus next to that and hillards
  8. I'm curious cuttsie ---------- Post added 28-02-2015 at 16:54 ---------- Thanks for that Erin
  9. Jacky Hudson used to be a well known boxer and used to work as a doorman at scamps nightclub in the 70,s. He used to drive round sheffield in a black e type jag. Not the biggest of guys, but not one to pick an argument with. Love to hear from anyone who knows him,and who could tell me where he is and what he's up to. Thanks,Gary
  10. I used the pheasant for quite a few years as my local. Used to go and watch Frank White there every week. First landlord I knew there was called graham. Then mick and Lorraine took it over. Remember Lorraine passing away, tragic that was. My old neighbours from elm lane lived and died in there,George and Claire halley
  11. Did graham Townsend ever end up working at Matlock ford? ---------- Post added 27-02-2015 at 21:31 ---------- I remember the showroom being full mk1 escort mexicos at one time, probably would have been 72/73. Must have been one in every available colour,I would spend ages peering through the window, wishing I could afford to go in and buy one! Only 12 or 13 at the time! I ended up working at brook shaws at lane top as a Saturday lad, washing the cars on the second hand lot. During the summer holidays,I would work there 4 or 5 days a week ,throwing sawdust on the oil- spills and sweeping up. One time I had the honour of polishing a brand new Capri Gaia in the show room. It had only just come out and not many people had seen one. It created quite a lot of interest and loads of people were looking at it through the showroom window, just as I had at Gibraltar street with the mexicos. I felt as though I'd really moved on! Sales manager was mr ketringham, salesmen were ray moss and Tony green. All great blokes anyone know them?
  12. A mate of mine, Brian ibbotson worked on the door there in the 70,s
  13. I used to go to school with a Paul cottam,he used to live just off her rise road near the northern general hospital. He joined the police force last I heard of him. Often wonder what he's doing now as he was a great lad. He will be 54/55 years old now
  14. Used to use the Wordsworth tavern on a regular basis in the mid to late 70,s. My drinking buddy was a lad called Ian bacon, and we used to meet up with a few lads in there who were into bikes. Eddie fowler(fast Eddie) Norman, John Hartley, paul cosgrove(Cossie). Rob cutler was a regular too, anyone know any of these lads?
