  1. Thanks again for the information and advice. Very useful. Looking to avoid working in a sponsored academy if at all possible. I don't like what I hear about them.
  2. Thanks again for replying. The academies you mention - are they sponsored or just schools that have opted out of local authority control?
  3. Do you know what the situation has been historically? Have there been plenty of jobs in the past and is this, as you say, just a bit of a dry spell?
  4. Thanks. I had a look at the Sheffield Council page already. Don't seem to be many jobs there either. ---------- Post added 05-05-2015 at 10:07 ---------- The Escafeld Teaching School Alliance looks like an intiative for in-school training for new teachers. I am an experienced teacher - I probably should have stated that - but thanks anyway for posting it.
  5. Any teachers posting here? Or anyone with an insight into teacher recruitment in the Sheffield area (ten mile radius of the city, preferably)? I am looking for a teaching post (Secondary, English) but notice that few jobs seem to be advertised in the usual place (T.E.S). Seems surprising for such a big place with a lot of schools. Does anyone know anything about the situation relating to teaching jobs - why there don't seem to be many around, whether schools are avoiding expensive advertising and what the general situation is on the ground? Thanks for any advice.
  6. I imagine that this has cropped up before - although the last thread is dated 2005. I know some people find it a very boring topic so I apologise in advance. I might find myself moving to Sheffield next year. I don't know the place at all. Where are the best areas? I'm looking for the usual sort of things - medium size family house, nearby facilities, transport links, et cetera. I'm used to living in the inner suburbs of cities and don't really want the village life. Some good pubs will help me settle in. I'm not after the leafiest, plushest part of town - would prefer to avoid these in some ways. At the same time I do need to think about good primary and secondary schools, traffic congestion and all that kind of thing. Any suggestions? I'll rent first (and can pay around a £1000 per month). Thank you.
