The footprint of the Hallamshire is small, it can only be where it is because of the height. Parking is horrendous, I wouldn't like to live in the surrounding streets, it must be hell for the residents. I think siting it at Attercliffe is a great idea, there's a lot of land round there that's not being used to it's full potential.

One trend I wish would go away ....... Thick caterpillar eyebrows. Two trends I'm glad to see the back of ..... Lads wearing their trousers with the crotch hanging half way down their ass. ...... Mohican haircuts , although you still get the odd dinosaur who thinks it's cool.

Stannington. You had to wait twelve years on the housing list to get on there, now it's really rough. The rot set in when they let young people have the high rise blocks that had been for elderly people. Then they put in homeless & immigrants & it went downhill fast. There was a strong community spirit up there before, as many of the tenants moved in when the two estates were built, and grew up together. It's still the best place I've ever lived but I wouldn't go back now.

Makes you wonder how some of them originated. Veering off slightly, we were once looking at some donkeys in a field in Ingoldmells and the name on the brass nameplate on the gate was E. Haw & Sons !

Tttt ! I've got relatives called Crump as well, William & Raymond who would be in their seventies now. They were the sons of Bill & Phylis Crump.

I recently had to contact a Miss Puddephatt & it set me off thinking about some of the more unusual surnames I've come across in my life ; Licquifette, Stallingbest, Twelvetrees, Handisides, Ort, Daff, etc.. My own maiden name was bad enough but I'm not putting it on here.

Yes I've never understood that one either. As you get older birthdays seem less important, and you've already got most things you could ever need. I think it's something to do with your self-esteem, the way you give to others and the knowledge that you're a person that others want to give to. I just like to feel that I've done my part of "the job" properly. My husband can sort the car out .

It's a known fact that women are better at the social side of things, that includes organising cards & presents & dealing with relationships. We like men to leave it to us, even if we pretend to grumble about it. Sometimes it does get out of control, especially at Christmas when the goodwill factor takes over. So don't worry lads, we've got this.

HACHI was mine too, what a weepie ! Me & my husband cried unashamedly through it, and to think it was a true story made it worse. As a teenager I went to see Summer Holiday fourteen times, at the Forum & at Studio 7. I must have been easily pleased in those days.

Or there was always the Friday morning grovel market where my daughters used to go.

Now that I think about it, I haven't been in a shoe shop for decades. They must still exist but I don't remember noticing one for years. Do the assistants still bring you a few boxes to try ? I remember Dolcis , Timpsons and Langtons at Hillsborough. Twenty nine and eleven was the average price for ladies' shoes, nine and eleven for a pair of plimsolls. One pair of shoes had to do for everything , so your dad would mend them or you had to put a piece of cardboard in them. No trainers then, in fact I've never owned a pair.

Disc Jockeys. Bunch of egotistical, usually ugly, boring losers. What are they FOR ? Still I'm sure they're good to their Mothers.

My favourite, and still to this day, was SEA JADE by Yardley. I can afford the posh ones these days but I'd give anything for a bottle of Sea Jade. Also I got a tiny little bottle of old-fashioned Gardenia scent, it was gorgeous, but I could never find it again. Gucci do one now, Gorgeous Gardenia, but it's rubbish. BRUT is still fantastic, for both sexes. I buy it for my husband then pinch it for myself.

Which adverts on telly bug you the most ? All they seem to feature is people flying through the air, there must be five or six on that theme. And the one with the goat, what's that about ? What's the connection between smelling nice & goats ? Another thing bugs me is women or girls blowing kisses from their hand from big fat lips, if they knew how it makes them look like cheap tarts they wouldn't do it, somebody should tell them. That gesture went out with Marilyn Monroe. Sorry, just having a rant this morning.

Absolutely agree. I was brought up that way & brought my three up the same. There is a lot more pressure on parents these days & I don't envy them.

I hope parents nowadays sit down with their young teenagers, preferably boys and girls together so they can hear each others' point of view, and talk about why it's not alright to give out mixed messages. It's not O.K. to lead somebody on then make a drama out of it. Girls are being encouraged to see themselves as victims, instead of equal participants in the game. They both need to respect the opposite sex & understand that it's best to be clear about what's acceptable. Let them join in with their opinions & experiences, then they'll all go away with something to think about & hopefully a new understanding of each other.

Happy New Year everybody. I'm helping a relative find her family. Does anybody know, if a person is born in let's say August 1964, then is adopted , do they subsequently get a new birth certificate with a different birthdate, presumably the date the adoption was finalised, which can take up to a year or so we're told. I always thought you couldn't tamper with someone's date of birth, there might be consequences ? Is there any point in searching the records using their original d.o.b. ?

Cross lad ........ Only just seen your post. Sylvia Cousins is still a good friend, as is Jillian Corbidge. Jill lives in Leicester now. My sister Cath is married to Dave Sorsby ( everybody knows Big Dave ). Being in the Girl Guides did us a lot of good even though it's not cool these days. Did you live at the top of Deerlands before Adlington Road ? People I remember are Tony Fontana, John Barr, the Fowlers, Paul Moorhouse, Terry Codling, John Cosgrove, the Deakins, McGowans, Bonsalls and many others.
