  1. Finally posted my recommendation for Steve as well in Recommended tradesman. Brilliant repairs on our boiler and hopefully a new one too one day!
  2. Had all my boiler needs looked after by Steve on 07534280364. Fixed my 20yr old boiler that had spiders living inside for very cheap amount and tracked down a gas leak and fixed for free. I got his details from this forum, highly recommended
  3. Thanks Wallbuilder thats really helpful. I suddenly got really worried that it could be some crucial pipes connected to my house and going to cost me lots of money. Have got a handyman coming over tonight to check, hopefully it's a job he can do
  4. Realised I could hear a hissing noise coming from my back garden this morning. There have always been some mysterious looking pipes in the corner of the outhouse but I've always assumed they were redundant as there is no toilet in there. They're clearly incredibly old and rusted and look like they will fall apart really easily. However heard the noise this morning and realised a tiny amount of water is spraying out of one of the pipes and that there is water running through them. I'm not particularly looking for offers of work, more just advice on why they are there and still seem to be in use and...how serious could this be? Am I going to need to get new piping laid down? Why do those pipes have water in them? Any advice appreciated
  5. I've been to the Fopp in Bristol many times and it's exactly the same as it was. HMV havent changed them
  6. Thanks, this is on tonight not the weekend?
  7. Brilliant thank you. Do you know if we need tickets or can anyone just turn up?
  8. Does anyone know if Bole Hill is doing one again? Or anything in The crookes/walkley area?
  9. I rented from C&H too, they were quite good on our deposit and only took £50 for carpet cleaning which to be fair, we had made quite a mess of. But the women that work in there are AWFUL! If you remember the comedian Linda Smith she actually did an early sketch taking the **** out of them (think she called them crapper and crapper). I don’t know if she rented through them. I found them to be nothing less than ALWAYS rude. In fact, almost admirably consistently rude. I did sometimes used to start giggling whilst they were talking to me because I couldn’t believe how moody they were. One particular time one of their staff threw a strop because I asked to borrow a pen to write a cheque to them. Why they don’t just let you pay by direct debit gods knows…I think that’s a bit too post 1950 for them. And who is Mr Francis?? They seem terrified of him and only speak of him in hushed voices. Once they even referred to him as “him upstairs” and nodded fearfully towards the ceiling. Honestly enjoy them whilst you can. They’re hilarious
  10. yaaaaaaaay Whilst people are makign requests- the music in the springvale always drove me out. Quite often really rubbish LOUD chart dance stuff. Any chance of a cool indie jukebox porter cottage style would be ace.. Just a suggestion!
  11. Has anyone else had any problems with Yorkshire Water refusing to fix a blocked drain? Tree roots have grown into my drain in front of my house. My buildings insurance sent out "Ansa" to take a look. They said the drain is a shared drain with two other properties and it is "ex section 24" and that Yorkshire Water should fix it for no charge. However having rung Yorkshire Water they've said that although the house was built in 1900 and has shared drains and so normally they would fix it...they quoted some "one curtilage theory" at me that because the same company used to own a few of the houses on the road the drains are all classed as private and I have to pay for it. Has anyone else has similar problems with YW? Looking up on the net there seems to be tens of thousands of homes in Yorkshire that are now classed as having private drains and YW wont fix anything for you.
  12. Hi- Just interested in those who posted the thread- did you go for lessons and what do you recommend?
  13. I know this is a very old thread but not wanting to start a new one on the same subject....my coal chute grate is letting so much rainwater into my cellar that mushrooms are growing down there. I just want it blocked up totally and I have airbricks already in the cellar for intervention. I dont need it. Did anyone in this thread get anywhere?
  14. Boyfriend just said he's managed to get on a tram, so theres still hope! He's been trying to get home for two hours now!
  15. I'm trying to communicate with my boyfriend whose stuck on the A1 bus in town. We live in Walkley and he's been told the 94 and 95 bus have been cancelled as have the trams. Does anyone know if this is true? I cant seem to find ANY updates on thsi on any of the fecking bus company websites and their phone numbers are just national automated 0800 numbers
  16. I've got exact same problem at the mo. My external hard drive has ALL the photos i've ever taken. About 75% of these are backed up but the remaining 25% is the travelling I did over the summer and I want those photos back. I know someone who got hers recovered for £300 in Sheffield. I'm just not willing to pay that though. There MUST be a cheaper way of doing this
  17. Does the Walkley Cottage do food? I didnt know they did Thanks v much for recommendations, so very helpful
  18. Before anyone says, yes I have searched What I'm looking for is a nice pub, not loud and cosy decor, to take my partners parents to to eat out at in the evening. I live in S6 Walkley and happy to get a taxi to somewhere decent. Lots of perfectly nice pubs around us in Walkley/Crookes but none that serve food in the evenings. I'd happily go to Old Grindstone, but again no food. Just want nice home made pub food They're paying so don't want anything too expensive...ones like the Wig & Pen although very nice inside are a bit pricey I'm told. The last one I took them to was The Stag on Psalter Lane which was perfect and exactly what I want, just dont want to take them to same one. These sort of pubs seem a little hard to find as most pubs do gear themselves towards the drinking and not the eating. Dev Cat is an option I'm mulling although it can get pretty noisy in there, even on a week night. Wondered if anyone had any good recommendations?
  19. I found out they're run by these people http://www.integrateddental.co.uk/ and what is hilarious is if you email that website....you get a phonecall from the dentists within 24hrs. However I've now signed up at Taptonville who were one gazillion times better
  20. I think I'll have to go in there to get an appointment, left my fourth message and no response at all. I might even stand at the door and try and ringing and see if they're just ignoring the phone due to loud music. I am considering moving though. Last time I was seen by a dentist who spoke NO english. I largely think its unfair on the poor woman to expect her to treat patients before she'd even had a basic english course so she can communicate to patients what she needs to tell them. She seemed quite frustrated
  21. Has anyone been to this dentist recently? I am already signed up with them as an NHS patient but now they never ever ever answer the phone. I've run about fifteen times over the last month and left 3 messages and they never get back to me. Does anyone know if they've closed down or something is going on there?
  22. I've just found you've booked an awesome band I love called Horse Feathers to your venue but I dont know how to get tickets?!
  23. Many thanks for all the advice and the pm's, will get in touch with all those who gave numbers to arrange visits and quotes
