  7. Just watched something on Amazon Prime called Great British Theatre Live (episode 2). It was Phoebe Waller-Bridge doing 'Fleabag' as a one-off one-woman show. I wanted to like it, but was actually revulsed. The period jokes, the 'poo' jokes, the modern ennui about casual needy sex, the self loathing.... I took that all in my visual stride. She a very edgy writer and having seen the two series of 'Fleabag' on TV it's not as though I wasn't aware of what she's capable of. What soured it for me - and ensured I'll never watch it again - were the passages concerning violence to animals. Line drawn. Exit Andy, stage right.

  14. As an ex-Crosspooler I can recall some glorious nights pub-crawling there in the 70s. The King's Head, The Plough, the Bell Hagg... marvellous places. Crosspool Tavern was still a tad on the snooty side then. People 'dressed up' to eat there. A lot of retired colonel types, bankers etc frequented it. Not really the kind of people that would discussed United's current fortunes or the latest T.Rex album. Wasn't really us. Never get to 'Pool any more. My folks have passed and friends have all moved on. No reason to go. I think the old Wednesday player Johnny Fantham had a hardware(?) shop up there when I was a kid.
  15. Coincidence. This week one of the geography teachers at a school I'm currently working at focused on the issue of Somali pirates. She showed the kids the movie trailer for 'Capt Phillips'. Left an impression as many said they were going to track it down on Netflix/Sky/whatever.

  19. 'Slade In Flame' was a hell of an album. Some fantastic tracks. As a film.....it's better forgotten.
  20. 'The River' - Springsteen "Me and Mary we met in high school, when she was just seventeen. We'd ride out of that valley, down to where the fields were green...."
