  1. Yes, it's a very silly fun film in a way that only the English can be. You can understand the 'Shaun Of The Dead' comparisons, with it being pub-centric. While I've a sneaking suspicion that the male actors just played themselves 😀, Anna Faris was my favourite character. Enigmatic yet slightly ditzy. I'd certainly go and see a film about a ninja yodeller. (...and it's full of knowing sci-fi lines like "Ray, I love you but we only have 14 hours to save the Earth..." or "Get away from her you bitch!") 8/10. Misses a few marks because there wasn't enough shots of the giant ants or Anna Faris' legs. Enjoyed watching it again. Thanks for the reminder.
  2. I can't believe this is 3 years old now. COVID seems a breath ago.
  3. The smell of a really well-cooked burger takes me back to my first visits to Uncle Sam's Chuck Wagon on Ecclesall Road in the mid-70s. As soon as you were seated a waitress (they were always waitresses) would bring you all a cold glass of water. Gawd knows why they stopped doing that. It was really civilised and customer-focused. (To this day I still reckoned their chilli con-carne and melted cheese tacos are unbeatable.) McDonalds and the like are pitiful comparisons after you'd encounter one of Sam's proper flame-grilled burgers.
  4. Nipped down to see the new Ghostbuster flick at Cineworld. Thoroughly good fun with most of the gang back. Of the 3 new additions, Emily Lind and Kumail Nanjiani work, James Acaster doesn't. He's annoying. Was hoping he was the deposable character that gets killed off. Not that lucky. Paul Rudd is as charismatic as ever and the younger actors all put in further mature performances. Alas, no after-credits scene and there's no Sigourney Weaver . That's the only downside. 'Bustin' makes you feel good.... Happy to give it a 7. Loses marks for Acaster and the noticeable lack of Sig.
  5. One here that's probably only for the Zepp aficionados among us. As cover version go this is pretty bloody good! Great set and a lot of thought's gone into the vid.
  6. You should have enclosed a photo for the out-of-town visitors to this site.
  7. Love me some Rosalie! New single. Fairport Convention fans, keep your eyes peeled.
  8. Today it's..... 'Silent All These Years' - Tori Amos 'Remember Me' - Diana Ross 'Who The Hell Is Edgar?' - Teya & Salena 'This Flight Tonight' - Nazareth 'Roots' - Show Of Hands 'Little Darling' - Thin Lizzy 'Photograph' - Def Leppard 'We Belong' - Pat Benatar 'Walk On The Wild Side' - Lou Reed. 'Kingdom Of Madness' - Magnum '(I Never Loved) Eva Braun' - The Boomtown Rats
  9. So many things, but where would the world be without Terry Pratchett, Monty Python and The Beatles? (If we embraced the uppity Scots for a moment we could even lay claim to making marmalade popular the world over) .......and socially we've historically done the Right Thing. Opened our arms to many worthy cases in their time of need; The Ugandan Asians, the Vietnamese boat people, those displace when it all kicked off in Bosnia etc etc. We have many faults but I'll always be proud to be English. Despite Johnny Foreigner's finger-pointing, we're Nice People. I'm hoping that will be remembered hundreds of years from now.
  10. The support act to Robert Plant at the City Hall the other night was a fella called Taylor McCall. I don't like comparisons but if pushed I'd says he's from the same stable of thought as the late Mark Lanegan or maybe Seasick Steve. Here's his latest vid.
  11. Happy 50th birthday today to one of the finest albums ever recorded.
  12. You're a saint mate. Taking pity on the afflicted like that. Nuff respect.
  13. On come on! A line has to be drawn somewhere. Standards man, standards!
  14. My g-kids, ranging from 4 to 10, love them. I enjoyed reading the books to my children too. Great escapism for the younger reader. Adults shouldn't really have an opinion on the content as they were not written for adults. The only opinion that matters is that of the intended audience. The author definitely understands what kids want. I wouldn't let the bairns watch any of her 'Strike' work though 😀.
  15. I nice little number from the dying days of The 'Oo.
  16. Took me over two months to finish this. I just couldn't get into it. I have dozens of King books and generally come away satisfied. With this one, no. Two thirds of the way in I still didn't care less who got eaten and whether the villains were caught or not. Only thing that did get my attention was the "A millionaire walks into a bar...." coda running through the book. I might have packed it in as a bad job halfway through if it hadn't have been for that story tangent.
  17. I guess you just follow your upbringing. Whether left or right-handed my folks always set the table with the fork on the left, the knife on the right. Not up on etiquette, but most restaurants I've been in set the same. The ambidextrous thing has always fascinated me. I write with my left hand. No amount of taking a pen out of my left hand and placing it in my right did any good. Yet bowling in cricket and using a snooker cue, it's my right hand. If I played golf no doubt that would be my right hand too. I kick a ball in footie with my right foot. But here's where it's useful; I can use tools equally competently with either hand. Screwdriver, hammer, saw, electric drill, jigsaw....whatever. I am the Duracell bunny when it comes to DIY 😀. None of this "Oooo, mi arm's tired..." rubbish.
  18. The live version of 'Best Years Of Our Lives' from Face To Face is one of my favourite recordings. He had a great band then. And before, actually. Any serious music fan should own 'The Human Menagerie' and 'The Psychomodo'. Marvellous songwriter, mesmerising live performer. Was lucky enough to see him about half a dozen times through the decades. Never saw a bad show.
  19. One of my favourite INXS songs. Love that whole 80s bass/synth sound, but can't somebody please help that poor Geisha girl off the floor...?
  20. Dedicated to all our friends who are having M25 issues this weekend....
  21. Another interesting find from Deal Radio's Sheffield-born presenter Gaz Richards. Nice vibe to it.
  22. This, 'American Graffiti' and 'Good Morning Vietnam' are the best 3 movies about radio - EVER.
  23. I'm having a Chrome Armour-plating day. Man, that lass had talent.
