  1. The Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow have arranged a short stroll from the pub on Friday night if anybody is interested. The walk is about 3.5 miles long and will take around 90 minutes. Although it's fairly short in length, please be aware that it is quite a hilly walk. Meet at the pub at 6pm for tea and coffee before the walk, and then for hot pork sandwiches with all the trimmings after the walk, along with more tea and coffee! Cost payable to the pub is £6 per person, and children and dogs are welcome. For more information see http://www.norfolkarms.com/ringinglow-walks.php
  2. There's a nice steady 2 hour walk along Stanage organised by the Norfolk Arms at Ringinglow this Sunday. Meeting time is 3pm for tea/coffee before the walk, and then a meal and more tea and coffee will be waiting for the walkers at @ 6pm when they get back. More details at http://www.norfolkarms.com/ringinglow-walks.php
  3. Norfolk Arms Walking Group Come and join us this Friday (29th) for a short walk around the beautiful countryside at Ringinglow. Leaving from the pub, we will be walking through Lady Canning's Plantation to the Ox Stones rock formation, then crossing over Burbage Moor to Houndkirk Road for our return to the pub. The cost is only £6 per person (including tea/coffee before and after the walk, and a hand-carved Pork or Gammon sandwich - a vegetarian option will also be available). Cheap as chips! No booking necessary, just turn up at 6pm, but for more information click on the following link http://www.norfolkarms.com/ringinglow-walks.php ---------- Post added 25-05-2015 at 12:23 ---------- I should have said in the OP that the walk is about 3.5 miles long, and will take about an hour and a half to complete. Good boots, and a coat are recommended!
  4. Rother Valley, Wentworth Woodhouse, Graves Park, Norfolk Park, Ecclesall Woods, 5 Weirs, Greno Woods, Rivelin Valley, Longshaw Estate to name but a few!
  5. You could do a lot worse than try out the Porter Valley. Start from the entrance to Endcliffe Park at Hunters Bar, then turn round when you've had enough. You can park foc just off Rustlings Road. The start of the Loxley Valley is near you, just 400 yards from the Malin Bridge tram terminus, if you've never tried that. Dead easy, @4/5 miles to Bradfield, then catch the bus back. Greno Woods, Wharncliffe Woods, Wortley Park aren't a million miles away and are all flattish. All these places are dog friendly incidentally. I've got 2 dodgy knees myself, and find steep hills and steps difficult, but I push myself and keep going because the alternative is to become a couch potato! Good luck!
  6. Bank Holiday Walk, Monday at 3pm Another Norfolk Arms walk has been planned for this weekend, and everybody is welcome to come and join us, including children and dogs. The walk this time will be across Houndkirk Moor and is 4.5 miles in length, and should take just over 2 hours to complete. The cost is £10, and for that you get hot drinks before and after the walk, a light meal when you get back, and of course a guided walk! Meeting time is 3pm, and here is a link with more information. http://www.norfolkarms.com/ringinglow-walks.php
  7. There were 15 people on this walk, and the daytime ones have been getting 20-25. Regarding the pace, I would describe it as ordinary walking pace, certainly not brisk. The walks aren't flat easy-going ones though. There were 2 steep uphill climbs, and about a dozen stiles on this one for instance, and others involve clambering over rocks, or through boggy areas. We have a lady in her 80's who comes regularly and I would say that if you're moderately fit, you'll be ok. Give us a try!
  8. If anybody fancies a change, the Norfolk Arms have arranged a one and a half hour (approximately) walk, leaving from the pub on Monday evening, 27th April. The cost is £8, and for that you get hot drinks before and after the walk, a buffet when you get back, and of course a guided walk! Meeting time is 6pm, and here is a link with more information. http://www.norfolkarms.com/ringinglow-walks.php
  9. Mini's, Standards and Giant Schnauzers are all welcome to join the first Sheffield walk arranged by the Yorkshire Schnauzer Group. The walk will be 5 miles long, should take around 2 hours to complete, and will start at 10am on Saturday 25th April outside The Old Harrow, Main Street, Grenoside. The route will take us through Wharncliffe Woods, and then into Greno Woods on decent paths, and apart from a short bit of roadwalking at the start and end, and a road to cross half way through, the dogs can be off lead throughout. Other dog breeds are welcome...................providing they arrive with a Schnauzer!

  14. There is a bus up there now, but it's not much use as there's are only one a day! The Norfolk Arms have a minibus which they will use to collect people from Bents Green if anybody gets in touch with them.
  15. Sorry, there's a mistake in the OP, it should say 2 to 2.5 hours! Cheers for drawing my attention to it. In answer to your question, the walks won't be too strenuous, but aren't really suitable for complete beginners. If that's what you are, you might be better trying one of the health walks that are available most days of the week all over the city. They are aimed at mainly sedentary people and are normally about an hour long on fairly flat routes.
