  1. Thanks for the sympathy. now we have to go through the insurance hoops...........
  2. My sons Boardman mountain bike was stolen from Hillsborough barracks earlier today. The thieves - yes there were two of them - knocked down a little boy and made many people dodge while making their getaway. Naturally my son is devastated. If you are offered this bike, please don't buy it off them but notify the Police. It's not just the bike, a hardtail Boardman Team 2009, but also the accessories and necessities (lights/pump/ spare inner tube) which have been stolen with it. Thank you
  3. I have also had the same person reply to my offers regardless of what the item is. I too, ignore those who use text speak and do not capitalise. I also ignore the sob stories, maybe I'm too cynical and hard-hearted, as some may be genuine. Having said that, only twice have I been let down by people not collecting the goods.
  4. A couple of Sundays ago I was out by Padley Chapel and saw upwards of 50 in the trees by the railway line.
  5. I use Go Outdoors for clothing and rucksacks. Wouldn't go anywhere else but Foothills for boots.
  6. Leash Fen. Rather you than me. A place for river fishing type waders rather than wellies.
  7. See below the reply from Sheffield City Council after I used their website to complain about the state of the roads I use to cycle to work. Seems I have to wait for 9, yes, 9 years before its all done. Thank you for your email dated 17 August 2009 regarding the above. In relation to the general condition of the Highway Network, you may be aware that the Council has successfully bid for sufficient investment to pursue a Private Finance Initiative scheme for Highway Maintenance. The Private Finance Initiative is due to commence in 2011/2012 with the aim of bringing all roads and footways up to a fair standard by 2018. In the meantime, the funding that is available now will be used primarily to keep the existing network safe for the efficient movement of people and goods. If you wish to report any specific sections of road or footway in need of repair, the best course of action would be to report them to the Council's Contact Centre on (0114) 273 4567 or email [email protected]. Arrangements will then be made to have the road or footway in question inspected and any repairs, which can be carried out within existing budgets, will be completed as soon as operational programmes permit. I am sorry I cannot provide a complete solution to the issues you have raised at present but hope you find the information about the proposed Highway Private Finance Initiative helpful. I hope this information is helpful. http://www.sheffield.gov.uk/streetforce
  8. Grief, what memories this brings back. Who can remember the awful, middle aged band that played between the DJ's sets?
  9. I noticed it too. Don't normally buy takeaway meals but looks like this one might be worth trying.
  10. Hmmm. Seems to have deviated slightly from the original topic, Walks led by the Peak District Ranger Service. A few years ago I went on loads of their walks and enjoyed them so much I went on the training course and became a part time Ranger myself. Many are volunteers, working for nothing, others are known as part-timers, and get paid a small (and I mean small)remuneration for turning up in all weathers all year round. I've gone out in deep snow and fog and heavy rain wishing I was in front of a cosy fire, pot of tea, pikelets oozing with butter (Stop it). Most already have full time jobs, others are retired or semi-retired, so are doing this in their precious spare time. Not all are local to the area either. I know of someone who regularly travels up from London, unpaid. As for the guided walks, we prepare these a year in advance. Even if only one person turns up, we will take them on the advertised walk because that is what they have come for. There is no charge for guided walks, this is a deliberate policy by the PDNPA to encourage participants. I can't say anything about public transport in the rest of the Park as where I work from there are good transport links. I am not a spokesperson for the PDNPA, just a dedicated and committed (!!) part time Ranger who enjoys what I do. Why not go on one of our guided walks and see for yourself. http://www.peakdistrict.gov.uk/index/visiting/ranger-walks.htm
  11. Best maps are the larger scale maps, 1:25000, with broad orange stripe on the cover. BUT, they don't cover the whole country, just National Parks and other, well visited areas. Don't forget your compass!!!!!
  12. Hi, I'm in Woodseats and would love to run/jog with people of similar ability (or lack of ..) I can do 15 mintues on a treadmill and then I'm ................ send me a PM if you want a third person.
  13. Thanks RR and PT, apart from a couple of 'problems' I am quite well. Hope to be back at work by the end of Feb/early March. Will post on this forum and we can take up the Mah Jong baton once again? Where? Devonshire Arms or Cat? GO. never played it, would you like to bring it along and we can have a go? M39
  14. Hi everyone, I'm back in the land of the living although not sure when I will be returning to work (got a couple of 'problems') and back in the Mah jong groove. Safetypin need not worry, I am usually the butt of everyone's jokes. I play to my own rules which causes great amusement. Morton39
  15. I was there, all alone, two weeks ago. Won't be there for a couple of months, going into hosptial for an op. that takes time to recover from. I'm having my baby-making equipment taken away.
