  1. I remember back in 1967 when i was an apprentice paint sprayer at Kennings on Tenter st. The lunch time 3 card brag game in the canteen was a sight to see with a mountain of money on the table , it looked to me about a years wages but on 3 quid a week for an apprentice it probably was.
  2. Think the dance school was called Alfred Gold, sorry don't remember Rose.
  3. Never been ill abroad thank goodness, this is probably due to being very careful about what i eat and having a good hygiene routine so i guess that being careful and a bit of luck has looked after me , but over the years i have seen some hotels with shocking hygiene standards the worst being a Sol hotel at Cao Coco Cuba. A boy aged around 8 yrs old vomited his evening meal on the dining room floor , the family informed a waiter who put a chair over the pile of sick, the family then left the restaurant ,the restaurant staff made no attempt to clean up the sick so after around 5min i asked for someone to clean it up as not only was it unhygienic but the smell was beginning to circulate around the dining area, my request fell on deaf ears so after another 5min i asked again to be told that they were busy and would clean it at the end of service , UNBELIEVABLE at a one star hotel but this was a four star hotel !!! . ---------- Post added 12-08-2016 at 12:39 ---------- Never been ill abroad thank goodness, this is probably due to being very careful about what i eat and having a good hygiene routine so i guess that being careful and a bit of luck has looked after me , but over the years i have seen some hotels with shocking hygiene standards the worst being a Sol hotel at Cao Coco Cuba. 4. Dual tec detectors will detect your cats, they are designed to pick up movement with heat not just heat ,thus dual technology detection , contact your alarm provider to install sensors that don't pick up pets, we have had them for over 10 years with no false alarms at all.
  5. When i was about thirteen years old I was caught playing truant by my Mother ,the following day i was taken to school by my mother who reported me to the headmaster who asked me if i had ever played truant before, i like an idiot said yes i had played truant once before, i had three strokes of the cane to my right hand for the first truancy and three strokes on my left hand for the second offence, Lesson learned , never tell the truth .
  6. Cowboy and Indian figures i think were called swopits , you could swap arms , legs and guns around to make new figures, and if i remember right you could swap around the horses saddles. I also had a WW2 field gun that fired match sticks. I look at the gifts that my Grandchildren get for Christmas , most of which require a battery charger or plugging into the mains and doubt if they are any happier than i was with my basic toys. Happy days.
  7. Sunday mornings, Hearing a marching band somewhere around the Southey Green / Parson Cross area's and searching for it so we could march with the band.
  8. Can you post any photos of the lions , you never know someone may see them in some thieving gits garden , long shot but worth a try.
  9. Bag of chips for a tanner in the sixties , seemed to stay a tanner for years at our chippie at Southey , no idea how much fish cost as i only ever got a tanner to spend , happy days.
  10. My Father was Ernest Pearson the office manager who sadly passed away 8 years ago aged 80 , he lived a full and happy life right up to the end.
  11. Also used BJ Mason, good job at a very good price compared to Mercedes main dealer.
  12. Lots of litter on A1- M1- M18- Mosborough parkway - Sheffield Parkway - A57 from Aston ponds to M1 roundabout. Totally agree lots more litter this year , maybe offenders with a community service order could help with shifting it .
  13. Does anyone know if an offender given community service as a punishment is put to work collecting litter, the reason i ask is that this year there seems to be more and more litter around, they would do the community a service by picking it up. Come to think of it what community service are they given to do.
  14. To be perfectly honest in over 40 years i have never seen anyone asked to remove a child from the trolley, i think that the supermarkets do turn a blind eye to this problem for fear of upsetting their customers, if they did enforce the no sitting or standing rule surely we would notice, don't take the abuse it's a management issue to deal with abusive customers. ---------- Post added 12-03-2015 at 16:29 ---------- All your food is handled when you get it home , you also put it in your fridge ,do you want dog muck on your hands and kitchen surfaces when you've unwrapped your boiled ham, YUM YUM.
  15. In Asda recently i noticed a child sat in a trolley with what looked like Dog muck on his shoes, when i informed his mother she muttered something about dogs and said she would have to change the trolley , what about the next person to use the trolley ??? .What about children with nappies on while sitting in a trolley , can't be hygienic can it , trolleys are for food not children so why don't supermarkets stop this happening .
  16. Google Owners direct website for worldwide destinations, easy to use and not expensive ,Spain still hot in September
  17. Mercury and City taxis both do airport work , they also have minibuses.
  18. Distant vague memory of a man who would throw a complete dinner service into the air and catch it without breaking anything , i think there was a crockery shop nearby where he would sell his plates etc, possibly the Hillfoot bridge area, anyone remember this from the 1960s.
  19. Where do the car park takings go, hospital funds ?? or elsewhere.
  20. The barrels were as straight as a dye it was the 10 year old that couldn't shoot straight, i can still remember the cartridge smell , made me feel like a real cowboy.
  21. Anyone remember the indoor amusement area at the end of Cleethorpes sea front , i remember the rifle range where for sixpence your rifle was loaded with three real bullets , incredible as it seems this did happen in the 1960s , i used to spend the half crown i had been given on the coach with the annual Southey wmc trip at this stall , then when i was skint i would go on the beach and help the Donkey ride man for sixpence ,and head back to the stall to shoot more bullets . I revisited Cleethorpes after many years to find the amusements had been replaced by a market :(
  22. Any memories of Chaucer school teachers and pupils, my wife was there between 1967 and 1970 and remembers Mr Cornthwaite , Mr Wright & Mr Crowe.
