  4. Just wondering what the long queues of hundreds of people were opposite the Cathedral when I just passed on the 120 bus. Quite a large police presence too..
  5. I'm at the University of Sheffield doing a study about the experiences of Sheffield steelworkers in the 1980s. Would anyone who worked in a steelworks during the 1980s be willing to meet up to have an informal interview? I'd be very grateful indeed... and I'd buy you a hot drink! Where? - Blue Moon Café next to the Cathedral When? - This week or early next week How long? Probably about 40 mins Email me on [email protected] Thank you, Calum
  6. Last request for any former steelworkers who worked in a steelworks during the 1980's to join me for an informal interview this week or next week to discuss your personal experiences of the industry's decline. It is for a university undergraduate dissertation and it would take around 40-50 mins and take place at the Blue Moon Café next to the Cathedral. Please message me your email/phone number if you would be willing to help me out. Cheers Calum ---------- Post added 14-01-2015 at 17:23 ---------- I'm still in need if there is anyone available... I'll buy you a hot drink! Email - [email protected] Thanks!
  7. Hi, I posted a thread a few weeks back asking if any former or current steelworkers would be interested in taking part in an informal interview for my university research. I'll be asking about your experiences during the 1980's. It should last between 30 mins - 1 hour. Location is negotiable but probably in the City Centre and they will take place between 10th - 30th January. If you're interested or know someone who might be, please get in touch so we can arrange something. My number is 07570980645 and e-mail is [email protected] Thanks, Calum
  8. I think it's surprising that the majority of criticism aimed at Russell Brand is that he isn't going to stand for election. From the outset, he has set himself up as an activist not a politician and all he is doing is observing western society and criticising the parts which the conventional media doesn't. I have viewed every Trews video and Brand's straight to the point, logical, morally based arguments are very appealing, even if not everything he says is factually accurate. The reason i like the simplified arguments is because everything you here in conventional media is either patronising or overly complicated. I'm rushed for time right now so i can't write much in support of Brand but i will happily return and discuss what he's up to.
  9. Thanks a lot -Sounds interesting. I agree that we need to learn to use it more effectively. I hope that aspect of social media does mature but i wouldn't say it is inevitable. It probably requires wide ranging organization so that everyone with internet access can learn how to use it for positive change and that would be a big challenge for anyone to arrange, even over a long period. But i share your optimism generally speaking.
  10. I do use facebook. I'm a 21 year old student but i only generally use it for contacting peers about work etc rather than posting statuses etc. My point wasn't made properly. I think facebook is just one contributory factor to a world that is growing more strained and lazy by the overreliance on technology for a huge amount of interaction. Also, I can fully understand the potential facebook and other technology has for positive change and i wish it was used more for that rather than petty, attention-seeking rubbish that is posted daily by a majority.
  11. Manchester Piccadilly staff check tickets only at the exit/entrance of the platforms which is quite sensible as you are obviously either catching or have been on a train.
  12. Walmart are extending it by 4 or 5 days this year so I hear but less people are participating in it. The Walmart employees who are protesting about being paid next to nothing during black Friday should be supported.
  13. When Neymar was sent off for wearing a mask as a celebration. (I think it was Neymar)
  14. Hopefully Facebook's popularity will subside soon because it erodes so many social and communication skills.
