  1. There seems to be massive development going on on the Coalite site alongside the A61. These brown field sites are all over this area. There is one massive site at Stavely that housed Stavely Chemicals, Hollingwood Colliery and Stavely Iron Works. It covers 100s of hectares. All the buildings were flattened decades ago but there seems little appetite to actually build on it.
  2. It is just a thought but Sheffield may well suffer through over reliance on public sector employment including the old nationalised industries. There was a time when South Yorkshire was littered with coal mines. These were nearly all set up as private enterprises in the 70 years up to nationalisation. In the 70 years since nationalisation virtually no new pits opened and the existing ones were closed through lack of investment to make them competitive. The same was the case in the steel industry. Both these industries have shed thousands of jobs leaving folk used to the cozy existence of working in nationalised industries struggling to adapt to the competive world of private industry. There are lots of jobs out there. The question is does the workforce want them.
  3. why are the council in a position to try to sell a cottage that they do not own?
  4. Presumably your claim would be equally valid about Labour's promises .
  5. It seems that Sheffield has become embroiled in the grooming scandal just as Rotherham was. As was the case in Rotherham those who should have protected the vulnerable girls and prosecuted those responsible did everything they could to hush it up and let the criminals go.
  6. I'm pretty sure that had I posted the guy sat down beside me and after 5 minutes felt confident and stuck his hand up my skirt the same folk would be on here saying why didn't you just leave when he first sat down besides you.
  7. Funily enough what went through my mind was A. Why did he pick this seat when there were hundreds available.........Because I was a young female. B. I need to be out of here fast C. He's just sat down with a full breakfast. I've a 10 minute start if I go now. D. If he follows me and leaves his breakfast I have a stalker and need to head for customer services. I think unless you are female and have experienced something similar you just don't appreciate the situation.
  8. You're a guy aren't you? Do you go and sit down uninivted next to young ladies you have never met in cafes?
  9. I wanted to be out of there. It's too late when you find him behind you in the car park.
  10. Today I was shopping in a supermarket and nipped into the cafe section for a coffee and a pastry. The cafe was 80% empty with only a few tables occupied. I'd perhaps been there 5 minutes when a guy came over, popped his tray on my table and sat alongside me. He was a complete stranger but started chatting as though we were long lost friends. I felt intimidated and left my coffee and headed for home. Has anything like that ever happened to anyone else? I really felt uncomfortable and felt my personal space was being invaded. What are your thoughts?
