  1. Hello Fleetwood...I just received the following message from Ron G; we were in the same school in Sheffield... "With reference to Fleetwood's thread regarding the Butlers of Grimesthorpe, as that was my patch from the 40's to mid 60's, I was in the same class as John Butler at Grimesthorpe Junior School. John had at least 2 brothers & their father was one of the great characters of Grimesthorpe organising lots of activities for the kids. Regards Ron" It was good to hear from you...BB
  2. Fleetwood...I see that you are from Canada...We may be related in that my grandfather's sisters all emigrated to Winnipeg before the Great Depression...Mt grandfather, my father and his family (me and my sister) were from Darnall in Sheffield...Grimesthorpe is not all that far from Darnall...I remember it well...Cheers BB
  3. Ron G...I was on Radio Sheffield in 1991 when I came over to watch Wednesday beat Man U in the League Cup at Wembley...My email address is barry91owls@gmail.com if you want to contact me...Regards Barry Butler...
  4. Ron Gutterage...I recall you well and hope you still have that spikey hairstyle...If you want to contact me I am on Facebook...I look forward to hearing from you...Barry Butler...
  5. Southfork...I recall Abbott and definitely the name Trevor Beard (Can't put a face to it yet)...Do you remember names like Alan Cox (unfortunately he died in 1970),Keith Carder, Ray Meek, School Captain Allan Vollum, a little bloke called Osborne...I remember all the teachers and much more which I can put down...
  6. Southfork/Tara Misu...At last I've found somebody alive who I remember...Keith Atkins who was in the same year as James Marshall and he also came along to City Grammar to do A levels...Now then Tara Misu; why all the secrecy regarding identity?...It would appear that you were in the year below me...
  7. I'm just thinking that after nearly 50 years since leaving Owler Lane, it would be a small miracle if anyone in our class during the period 1951-56 would pick up on this message. Still, if I didn't bother nobody would know anyway... ---------- Post added 25-09-2014 at 21:56 ---------- That parsleydiva character is from my era...I remember Miss Unwin well...She had me caned by Joe Lupton for slamming a classroom door...We made up some years later when I met her in Rotherham (I worked with her husband...a bloke called McKenzie...nice chap)... ---------- Post added 27-09-2014 at 02:48 ---------- The bloke a year behind me at Owler Lane (1952) was James Marshall who followed me to Sheffield City Grammar and then we went together to Leeds University...After graduation we lost touch but he became a Labour MP and I read where he died of a heart attack when still in office...Any memories ?
  8. My first teacher was Mr Tring, who subsequently became a dentist in Sheffield...he used a retort stand stick to cane us...the class was 1B (Boys) and was in the prefabs alongside IM (Mixed) and 1G (Girls)...
  9. I attended Owler Lane during the period 1951-56 before going on to City Grammar with another bloke form our class called Alan Towers. I have many vivid memories of that period of my life and noted that Alan Belk, who was in my class, had posted on this thread...I'll leave this as my first contact to see what happens...It's such a long time ago and I will be 75 on September 29...If there is any reaction, I have great recollections of the teachers of the time and some of the girls i fell in love with...
