  1. Thanks Mike, I'll be in touch. Regarding a bone, we've tried that but she soon gets bored. Only really gives a few licks. Might be worth trying again though!
  2. I looked at the ingredients to dentacrunch after you mentioned it and realised there's minimal meat in. Changed to Wainwrights, which has meat as the first ingredients
  3. We gave her pair once and she loves it. I'll give the carrots a try and be prepared for the orange mess!
  4. Thanks again all for your advice. Booking her into the vets is something we've been meaning to do. We took her when she was off her food incase her teeth were sore and they mentioned about a deplaquing service. I'll get her booked in. We've got a toothbrush and toothpaste but she really didn't like it, we'll persevere though. I'll look more into the food ingredients too Anna B, glad to hear it's not just us. She takes it to the nth degree, she's a Spanish Water Dog but hates water!!
  5. She's a Spanish Water Dog and is two and a half. When we walk with my friends dog she's really happy on and off the lead. Not so much concentrating on toileting then, more socialisation but she's great. They chase each other around and she'll even go up to other dogs. However, when we walk her on the lead on her own she's so timid. She pulls back. We can just about walk passed another dog if they're on the other side of the road but if they're infront it's a no no. We've tried continuing, distraction, trying to get to her level but she looks really scared. There's some lovely dog walkers near us who are very patient and we try to introduce them but she pulls bank or hides behind us. If it's really bad she'll bark, which is when we know she's frightened as she never barks, not even when anyone comes in the house or to the door. We got her when she was two and that was from a lady with other dogs but as they had a lot of space I'm not sure she was walked on a lead much so they just played and ran around together. She's fine with humans. As for the toilet. We've walked and walked when we know she'll be desperate, nothing, yet when we're home and in the garden she'll go straight away. We wondered if it was a lead issue so let her off the lead away from the garden. Nothing! We went to my parents, arrived at 7pm and she didn't wee until 11am the next morning and that was through letting her go in the garden because I was worried she'd be really uncomfortable. Sorry to go on!
  6. Thanks everyone. Yes it's the hide stuff. That's interesting the same happened to your dog rubydo1. I'll try the duck necks (nice!). I really appreciate your help. The reason we went for dentacrunch is her breath stinks and we wondered if it'd help her teeth. We've tried with bones and other chews and she's just not interested. Sometimes we think she's not a real dog Thanks for the advice ccit, I'll definitely start with looking at that website. We just want her to enjoy her food so are wondering about something else! Now if anyone has any advice on her fear of other dogs and not going to the toilet on a walk....! Claire PS yes she's spayed
  7. Hi, Thanks for your helpful replies. She has her worm treatment every three months. Looking at Google they're not like that at all. She probably eats the equivalent of one and a half good meals a day. We put food down in the morning and at night, sometimes she guzzles it all, sometimes she plays/sniffs at it. We've tried putting it down for half an hour and lifting it up but it doesn't seem to make a difference? She never gets excited when we put it down. We give her butchers dentacrunch and occasionally mix it with canned food as encouragement. When she was bad once we gave her rice and she seemed to enjoy it. We have tried different brands incase she doesn't like the taste. Sometimes we wonder about the raw food diet or an alternative? She doesn't get lots of treats and we don't give her our leftovers so it's not as though she's waiting for something better. On the chip front. The only thing we've thought is we have these paddy whack strips that she enjoys, they're the only thing similar in length, maybe she can't digest them. Claire
  8. Hi, Our dog is a fussy eater, and every now and then will be sick. The foam/bile kind where we know it's cos she has an empty stomach. However, yesterday she ate really well and this morning she's been sick. I can only describe it as it looks like chips! They're firm long and yellow. Has anyone experienced this? I cants seem to find anything on Google. She was only out in the garden yesterday so hasn't eaten anything unusual. She's fine in herself, still playful. Hope someone can offer some advice! Thanks, Claire
  9. I'd advise turning up unannounced to look around. Unfortunately, the hospital can choose where you Dad goes as pressure on beds is high. This could just be an interim until a bed in your Dad and your chosen place becomes available.
  10. I'm sure if a nurse or support worker was seen standing outside the toilet, someone would see fit to complain that they weren't answering other buzzers. Unfortunately, the only way to prevent your Mum getting up in her own was to have someone stand inside he toilet while she went, which isn't very dignified is it. Like already mentioned, anyone can fall at any time. It's well documented that hospitals aren't the best place for people with dementia, so the sooner they discharged the safer they will be to continue assessments at home where they're more familiar wit the environment.
  11. Or maybe that the majority of social workers have been taken out of hospital so trying to get any input on 'social' issues is pretty tricky!
  12. I'd go and check on her, or if you feel uncomfortable maybe put a note through the door with your name and number. Even though she was out and about she might not have any close family/friends so might appreciate someone looking out for her.
  13. I agree with Agent Orange. If the money was there to make stations more visible/presentable then they've achieved their goal! Even if it's not a "working" station, i.e. open to the public, it still needs to be updated.
  14. I must be quite lucky that although there are different paygrades where I work, no one is "ranked" and we all get on as a team. God help the person who ends up next to you! You'd be better off not going!
  15. Hi everyone, I'm getting married next year, but not in a hotel so we're looking for somewhere nice to stay for the night. I know a lot of hotels in Sheffield, but have never stayed in them, so I'm hoping for some recommendations! Happy to consider anywhere really. I know there's a wedding section but figured more people might be able to help in this bit. Thanks!
