  1. Are you implying that USA Senators are not powerful men? I am sure he put the fear of god into people over there, as surely as Lord Mersey did here. This was 1912, when the common man did not have a voice to challenge these people.
  2. Near enough for our purposes, I am suprised you carry details like that about in your head.
  3. Hearsay, innuendo, and tittletattle. Which has gone on for nearly a century, and is embellished by seamen being such liars and braggards. I do know that she was still turning engines on steam, that the generators were running, finished with engines was not rung, nor was abandon engine room given. Therefore she went down with engines turning, all power on, and every engineer, to a man, lost. It is something we are proud of to this day, that every engineer gave his life, to try to save the ship.
  4. He was chairman of the enquiry I believe, without looking it up.
  5. Are you saying I am wrong regarding the Titanic? If you believe that tripe about icebergs etc, you will believe anything. Why do you think they were going at full power through the most dangerous, ice ridden waters? Do you think that the Captain of a brand new ship would risk it by such appalling seamanship? He had to get to New York to save his ship, unfortunately events overcame him. I was an Engineer Officer in HM Mercantile Marine for near on 10 years, and can assure you that everyone knows these stories to be true.
  6. Gideon announces his Public Spending Plans. Do you know the story of Robin Hood? This is the opposite, Gideon takes off the poor and gives to the rich. It will be a bit like France pre The Revolution.
  7. There were many icebergs, she was running at full power through an icefield, in panic, in order to get to New York, before disaster happened. Read the Board of Trade enquiry commentary. This was 1912, and people were intimidated easily by men like Lord Liverpool Dont forget, no Engineers survived, or the Captain. Only engine room crew survived, who were ordered up top staight away. They would have no idea what was going on anyway. 'Finished with Engines' was not rung, nor was the order, 'abandon Engine Room' given. This was to ensure that the only men who knew the truth of the situation were not alive to give evidence. Compare to WTC, if it was known to the insurers that preplaced charges were in position, they would not pay out. Or conversely, they insisted on preplaced charges, after 93. to ensure damage limitation. I work in a large Estates Department, we do routine maintenance continually. No one, except our department, is au fait with our work. We could be doing anything as far the general staff are concerned. The maintenance staff in WTC could quite easily have been maintaining the destruct mechanisms, as part of monthly PPM programmes.
  8. Thats what happened, it is a well known story in the merchant navy. If it was known to the insurers that they had put to sea with a fire in the stokehold, they would not have paid out. Far better to construct a story about icebergs that no one saw. They would then pay out, and White Star Lines integrity as responsible seamen could be maintained. Accident, you see, couldnt be helped. Pretty much the same as the WTC.
  9. The Titanic was sunk by an explosion in one of her forward coal bunkers, due to a fire caused by dubious distribution of the coal loaded before she set off. Spontaneous combustion, I believe it is called. She was going so fast so as to get to New York asap, and get the assistance of the NY fire brigade. There is no evidence of an iceberg.
  10. Coal Gas is CO, you are thinking of town gas, which was an inproved process, involving roasting the coal in the presence of steam, which gave additions of hydrogen and methane.
  11. http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-latin-america-11518015 Their minister explains it here.
  12. Knocking up was all well and good with coal gas, the Carbon Monoxide that we used to burn. All that would go is poison you slowly, and give you a ruddy complexion, before you died, some time later. But Methane is not poisonous, it is highly explosive, so knocking up the pipe would probably kill you before you had chance to finish your dinner, by means of blowing you to kingdom come.
  13. If that is what you want to think you believe, then be my guest. But I dont think that any human thinks that, deep down inside their brain.
  14. It starts at midnight tonight I understand. The most experienced men first, as that is when problems are anticipated, and they need good men to sort these out. Then the sick men, and after that the young and strongest men. I imagine the rescue team will be the last up. It just goes to show, that even the poorest countries, with help, and accepting that help, can pull off miracles.
  15. I was actually trying to be funny there Medusa, in answer to plekanhov. Read my comment posted at the same instant as yours. You may find we are more in thinking than you anticipated.
  16. I am not speaking of religion, or the supernatural. Every atom in your, and my, body came from inside an exploding star. Atoms are not destroyed, they are the same thing from when they were created in those stellar furnaces. Upon death a human becomes part of the stellar consciousness, and lives forever in that state.
  17. As I only have my own consciousness, then surely I am the only one to decide? It all ends when I end, so you must must hope that I live at Gods side forever.
  18. It is totally pointless to give all these quotes and theories. The technology does not exist to prove any of them. All we saw was a few massive building collapse without any rhyme or reason. We engineers, of which I suspect a few on here are not, can pontificate all year about it. But the point is, those buildings did not fall naturally. They were pulled down, using preplaced explosives, as a preemptive measure against exactly this kind of attack.
  19. You may find it was meant as a serious joke, if you see what I mean. Further, no one really believes in oblivion upon death. It is not human.
  20. What is this failed rescue of which you speak? You surely cannot mean the one which springs to mind. Oh no , dont even compare the two.
  21. Post some links to these please. They sound interesting
  22. So many good people are passing at present , it is heartbreaking, really.
  23. That is always the case, however a bayonet fitting is an approved method of disconnection. I would recommend however, if it to be permanant, to get it capped off. This obviously means greater expense, espescially if you decide to have a gas cooker once more.
  24. They will all be out safe and sound. If Pinochet was still in charge, it would have been back filled with concrete, and we would not have heard a thing about them. Heroes to a man, rescued and rescuers.
  25. It is typical of the adolescent mindset that prevails on here. The Beatles were giants, all others, no matter how proficient, were pygmies
