  1. The Greystones, Yellow Arch Studios ... depends what you want ...
  2. 3 more TalkingGigs at Yellow Arch Studios in November ... Vula Viel (10th), Sona Jobarteh (14th) and Rafiki Jazz (23rd). Tickets from the venue ...
  3. Welcome to a new series of gigs at the Lantern Theatre which give you the chance to hear great performers talk about their music as well as playing. The first 45 minutes of each gig will feature the artist talking, playing and answering questions ... and the second half will be a more 'traditional' concert. The first gig on Friday 6th June features Jim Moray - one of the most inventive performers on the modern UK folk scene. Winner of 5 Radio 2 Folk Awards, in 2013 he celebrated both 10 years since his landmark debut album Sweet England and the success of his 2012 career best Skulk. Jim is currently touring material from his forthcoming album of traditional ballads – but this special performance will allow you to discover more about Jim, his influences and ways of working as well as hearing music both new and old. The second gig on 13th June features Sura Susso – a spectacular kora player from Gambia. Sura was born into a griot family in Bakoteh, Western Gambia and has played kora (and other instruments) from an early age. As well as promoting music from his cultural roots in The Gambia, Sura has performed in a variety of cross-cultural settings and performed with Baaba Maal at Glastonbury in 2009. His debut album (Sila Kang), released in 2009 contained a variety of original compositions and arrangements of traditional songs and received wide critical acclaim. (“Kora genius … a wonderful disc.” – Stirrings; “Exquisite kora playing.” – Cerys Matthews, Songlines) As well as hearing a variety of his stunning music, discover more about the kora, Sura’s approach to fusing traditional Gambian music with other styles, and just what it means to be born into a griot family … and whatever else you choose to ask. Sura will be playing solo, and the performance will also feature John Ball (tablas) and Catherine Carr (guitar). Tickets available at the Lantern Theatre website : TalkingGigs on Facebook at:
