  1. Nice to see you mocking an accident Buses or cars never skid or anything do they? Never catch a First driver driving his bus onto the tracks at Birley
  2. While some like yourself (and busdriver1 who is negative regarding anything to do with Stagecoach),others like me don't consider this a 'silly experiment'. The money has nothing to do with saving the steel industry it comes from seperate departmental budgets ie:- network rail, sypte and finance from europe... The steel industry - to use your argument - could be saved by cutting international aid to countries that put people into space perhaps? (if indeed it's worth saving)
  3. In the interests of impartiality and fairness would you care to do a similar comparison on fare increases for First and other bus operators so we can then make an informed decision on this post?

While I appreciate not everyone uses Twitter or smartphones..Twitter was updated within 5 mins of he accident happening.I've just looked at their twitter account (supertrams) for the day of the accident and there are LOADS of regular tweets from the tram and regular updates, replies to other posters advising which buses to get and that First were accepting tickets. and later on in the afternoon a tweet saying when the next update would be given as to if services would be running the next day. The tram's website was also updated several times throughout the day as I kept checking to see if i could get home via tram from work. As has been discussed elsewhere the electronic signs at most tram stops are currently under test ,and operation, by SYPTE - so at present any lack of updates on them would be responsibility of SYPTE as they are operating them. ( and to be honest there's not been electronic signs at tram stops for the last 20 years). Radio Hallam was carrying updates throughout the day on their news bulletins (we have it on at work) and it was mentioned on ITV's Calendar. I really don't see what else the tram could have done to keep people informed ?? as it seems they used all available outlets including social media. Maybe you could contact them and ask if you left your mobile number that they could personally call you with updates regarding delays and late running?
  5. of course the other thing that delays the bus (like this morning causing the bus to arrive late and the tram to pull out) is DOZY passengers boarding the bus. Woman stood at bus stop a full 5 mins with me this morning then got on bus when it arrived and only when she got on the bus did she unzip her big shopping bag to look for her purse (which she exclaimed loudly several times she couldnt find!).Eventually after several minutes said purse was located (then dropped) and fare paid. Get your pusrse out and ready before you board!! Next stop guy gets on with a £20 note - bus driver didn't have enough change (and to be fair they don't have an unlimited amount of change) driver politley said he couldnt change it as he'd had a run of £20 note tenders on the journey so far...hence guy scrambles through pockets for change (which indeed he did have enough!) I'd say all in all between the pair of them we were delayed by 6-7 mins..thanks guys!
  6. (I could ask Supertram via Twitter, etc. But I know for a fact I'll get a more sensible answer on here!) Jeez- you're taking the mick right???? with all the self opinionated, self appointed, experts on here who know everything about everything and nowt about nowt!! So if someone on here gives you info you have no idea if it's right or based on what or if it's going to change, if the info is duff who would you blame? that's why companies have websites/accounts to give out info. and tbh trams twitter is pretty good and usually up to date with quick replies too in my expierience
  7. Why don't you ask SYPTE ?? It's nothing to do with Stagecoach they just run the trams. I'm sure Stagecoach would love to get back to runing the tram service and stop having to buggar about with bus replacements ect All infrastructure - tracks included - is OWNED by SYPTE and it is them who are funding the repairs and have tendered the contract and who you should be aiming your irk/question at. Here's a radical thought..maybe the 'cash to waste' is being used on replacing the tracks to make sure they are safe and don't cause any trams to derail or worse..radical and off the wall i know
  8. Or.. it might have been one of the replacement bus drivers who aren't tram employees as they also wear hi-viz? However whoever it was should have shown more customer service. The other person could have caught a connecting tram from Shalesmoor to University so the conductor wasn't wrong. No lessons learnt?? Seriously in every level of customer service you get a few employees who can be bad eggs.Unless they were identified and reported at the time I would imagine it is difficult for the company to take action! At the end of the day we're all human despite what roles we are in and all capable of mistakes, being off hand etc. ---------- Post added 23-06-2015 at 13:10 ---------- Why on earth should anything be planned around the school holidays- the world doesn't revolve around kids!!. Short bursts over weekends would have taken decades!! I'm sure SYPTE - for it is them who own the tracks not Supertram - awarded the contract to Volker Rail for a reason. You state yourself you are not a regular tram user and bemoan the vagaries of a replacement bus service..thousands of people every day in Sheffield have to catch buses to and from work as they are not on the tram route how awful it must be for them! I love how everyone on SF is always an expert on every matter. Intersetingly a quick google shows passenger satisfaction with the tram in the most recent independent survey shows user satistfaction at a high (and this was undertaken during the last round of rail replacement apparently)
  9. Be more irritating if they didn't do the repair work and the tracks broke, and a tram derailed injuring people or worse.Remember the Hadfield disaster due to rail maintence neglect. It might be an inconvienient and take slightly longer to get anywhere but surely safety comes first???
  10. anyone know whats happening with it? Building work started over a year ago (if not more) and then ground to a halt and nothing has happened in months
  11. Hmmm..I found the information about diversions in the case on my tram stop. However i had also picked a leaflet bout the works up on the tram before it started so was prepared.I keep checking their website about once a week just to be sure.Tram's twitter account is pretty useful. My only gripe..and it's not really anyones fault..is that the buses often get caught up in traffic which is beyond anyones control but can often mean gaps while waiting..then the proverbial 3 come at once lol
  12. I love how everyone is an expert- logistically it must be a nightmare to sort. As a Middlewood-er too I had no problems at all when the west street works where on and i travel in both morn and evening peaks.Obviously the buses took a little longer when caught in traffic but that's hardly the trams fault! as the opening post states on here there's an drop in meeting tonight 3-8 at arundel gate for public to drop in and find out more and raise any concerns. I'd hazard a guess thats the perfect 'forum' to raise issues in rather than here?
  13. hence why there's a consultation meeting thats being advertised so points of view and concerns can be across directly to the people concerned instead of on here. aren't Stocksbridge/Wharncliffe Side/Oughtibridge served by the 57 bus route??
  14. Carnage?? You mean replacing the track to make sure it's still a safe way to travel? I'd much rather work took place so it's safe than ride on dangerous track that could risk my health! it does make you wonder though why SYPTE - for it is their project - didn't include the Infirmary road works in this years work..makes more sense ---------- Post added 12-09-2014 at 11:30 ---------- Confused why you asking on here as judging by the amount of tweets from you on the trams twitter feed that I've just spotted while checking for any news you know as much as the rest of us! I'd imagine that having been burnt last time after giving a date for the Halfway works to end and that work over running they are not announcing anything til they have got the definite all clear.... and therefore managing expectations and not getting our hopes up. There is a lot of activity today around the tracks and test trams running so it all looks good.
  15. I imagine that the tram will announce it as soon as they have been given the all clear by SYPTE - as it is SYPTE who have the contract and employed the workers to do the rail replacement. After the works over ran last year at Halfway it makes sense that the tram is not announcing it until they have been informed all is good as any preamture announcement would only lead to disgruntled customers... tram twitter and website are the places i'm keeping a close eye on
  16. If it was through negligence or carelessness than yes I would expect it to be accountable.I would also expect transport planners to have the information as to what causes significant crashes. As pointed out in other posts these accidents are investigated and in the case of negligence/carelessness one would expect the police to prosecute and press criminal charges . I still maintain that the majority of the travelling public don't give a toss as long as it doesn't affect them.Even when it does affect and disrupt their journey they don't give a toss as to the reasons behind it
  17. Really?? Why? How will knowing change your life, undo the disruption? Yes it affected people's journeys home but the majority don't give a toss what the reason is, they are just peed off that there's disruption no matter what the cause. If it was made public would all those affected go back and apologise tho the public transport staff they were hassling/rude to?? No..cos they don't care bout the cause just the impact.
  18. smart phones don't actually = smart people though....just another must have designer gadget that some people don't actually realise how useful they can be!
  19. bearing in mind on all the tram stops on the yellow route from Middlewood to West Street there are HUGE notice in the notice cases saying This Platform is closed..and the number of people still standing there, waiting and ignoring them notices don't always work. While I appreciate not everyone is on it social media is the current and most instant way of communication these days. This 'suspension' was tweeted early on Sunday afternoon by Supertram as it popped up on my twitter feed...and shortly after on my facebook timeline I'd imagine things like posters and finding additional staff mid Sunday afternoon/early Monday morning must take some time to organise. and then of course there's always the individual travelling who should take some responsibility for their own travel arrangements and check... but I know I don't.
  20. Trams running from station to halfway You need to complain to SYPTE if complaining as it's an infrastructure health and safety issue causing this. The tracks and all infrastructure is owned and maintained by SYPTE ---------- Post added 01-09-2014 at 08:01 ---------- We did not take the freedom riders stance! I do not support them at all! / we asked him to check as we had been told by tram staff at castle square that First had agreed to honour tickets which is why we asked him to check! He didn't have to be rude or surly but was. By your own admission First accept tickets in certain situations ... Of course this ticket farce is all down to deregulation which is an entirely different kettle of fish
  21. It's called a gentlemens agreement- and has happened before in times of disruption - like when First buses breakdown on church street or hills borough interchange. It's something SYPTE- who first and stagecoach work in partnership encourage in the name of minimising disruption to us the travelling public. Last time though the miserable B******d First driver refused to accept tickets .. Until people power.. Ie:- several of us refusingto get off until he radioed his control and checked... And voila!!! His control confirmed first were accepting tickets as one of their buses had broke on church street blocking it!!!
  22. Getting off at station is 2 stops earlier than normal isn't it as trams only going to cathedral. Replacement buses? - well buses can't stop outside station so they'd probably have to go into bus station anyway and there are plenty of buses from there. I imagine magic-ing buses out of thin air over a weekend is a bit difficult as drivers etc need to be found?? Let's hope SYPTE - for the infrastructure is their's not stagecoach supertram - sort this soon ---------- Post added 31-08-2014 at 21:24 ---------- Maybe you didn't see them? There were some staff there last night - at castle square-my wife was talking to them last night bout it while waiting for me. Saw some today too as we were going to Meadowhall
  23. There's a large off road cycle path on the side heading towards town..is this not a 2 way stretch where bikes can go either way on it? Mind you the number of cyclists who chose to ignore this dedicated off road cycle lane and still weave in and out of traffic on a busy dual carriageway continues to astound me. Cyclists ask for these facilities and then don't use them!
  24. What number did you actually ring? Stagecoach or Stagecoach supertram? Did you get the person's name who you spoke to? and whilst I sympathise re your ankle you can hardly blame Stagecoach. what if the bus had been delayed in traffic elsewhere - a situation beyond their control - would you still not have been stood on your ankle??
