  1. this is definately going to be a Somerfield store with a petrol forecourt. Recruiting has already gone into the job centre, The store will open from 6am till10pm
  2. grandmother who used to be a teenager has fond memories of an open top MG and Clumber Park:)
  3. Don't know where miss gobby lives except in Hillsboro' but if she took the time to go onto the Middlewood Winners website she might get a shock. They have at the very least got off there backsides and tried to change things.
  4. Welcome home Jo. What would we do without you:thumbsup:
  5. Just seen this thread on The Manor. My son lives on the Manor, one daughter at Winn gardens and one daughter at Totley. We live just up from Firth Park. ALL these areas have their good and bad points. I was brought up on Manor Park when it was first built and went to Pipworth Rd school and my children were brought up here. Non of us thank goodness have ever suffered any ill doings by the so called "elements" except my daughter at Totley when her husband had his motor bike stolen from a secure lock up. It happens anywhere and doesn't make any estate a bad place to live. It's the odd people that get the bad name for the majority of law abiding citizens. Just don't let 'em win.
  6. It's actually the oldest "dwelling" house in Seffield and used to be the luandry for Manor Castle. When I worked there in the 60s the tunnel joining them was still there but sealed. If my memory serves me right the oldest pub is The Nailmakers
  7. No they don't. If so we're missing out
  8. You could be right. I just heard the 130 and saw red. just listened to news again but not mentioned
  9. Just heard on the radio that the tv tax is going up yet again in April to £130.50. Opinions please or am I the only one spitting feathers:rant:
  10. Such sarcasm is out of order. I hope you live to be 97 and not have the ability to pay to get out
  11. I don't know how old you are sparky2 but I am a working pensioner through necessity not choice and my government pension is taken off me in tax because it's added to my income. I've worked all my life going back when my children were six weeks old because my husband has been ill for a long time. I think I've earned free bus fare. I pay full rent and full council tax before you ask.
  12. The do-good brigade are missing the point. I don't CARE what happens to 'em inside as long as they're not on the outside doing it again:loopy:
  13. If you can find the time to do your own shopping at Somerfield they will then deliver it free of charge (if you spend more than £25) at your convenience up to 8pm. If you spend less than £25 you can still have it delivered for a £3 charge. Each store delivers to a wide area round where they are situated.
  14. Just come across this discussion and must say how much I wish the tram came to my area. If they can do all that up City rd and Prince of Wales rd etc why can't they follow the old route up Barnsley Rd to Sheffield Lane Top. I have to catch a 47/48 which is a feat in itself and then one of the 80s up Ecclesall rd. 100 years ago when I was at school I used to get the tram from High St (where it is now) to Millhouses. Used to be travel sick but always got there.
  15. I wish just for once Shiregreen/Wincobank/Firth Park/Parson Cross could be left out of the conversation. The majority of us are nice ,peace loving, LAW ABIDING citizens and fed up of taking the flack for the bad people.
  16. I don't live too far rfom you and we have two pairs of robins visit regularly even though the squirrels pinch the nuts. We've also got blue tits to keep them company. We also get foxes but we don't mind cos they're lovely to look but can be very noisy:)
  17. Ha! Ha! Ha! senior moment dj_shadowman. Of cause I meant RCA:confused:
  18. I don't use many taxis myself (thank goodness looking at this site) but I do phone mercury and rac regularly for customers when they've finished shopping and both firms have always told me if they haven't got anything or if it's going to be a long time. I've known when it's been an hour and a half on a thursday or friday afternoon but they have actually told me this so if the customer accepts they know what to expect. I also have one very frail old couple every week and I just tell the person on the phone to ask the driver to come instore for them and they always have. They even take the trolley back and get the £1 out because the lady uses it as a walking aid. Just thought I'd show the other side of the coin.
  19. When the councol opens again tomorrow you can get in touch with the enviromental health department. They'll give you some advice if it's feally bad.
  20. Why have these little ***** been sent home on police bail to enjoy christmas and new year with their families. The police must KNOW or they wouldn't have held them so quickly in the first place:loopy:
  21. No one has mentioned olympic medal winners like Seb Coe and Roger Sherwood and how can anyone forget Sean Bean:clap:
  22. Why is it that because my thatch looks like I should be father christmas's sister I'm not supposed to like "music" My cd collection includes everything from every Robbie ever released to scissor sisters to rolling stones to katie melua eg. If I even mention I know who these people are when I'm at work I get the "she's trying to fit in "look. YOUNGER PEOPLE, you DON'T own the music scene. I defend my right to enjoy all the varied music I listen to without you thinking I need the funny farm. Merry Christmas to all
  23. YOU try walking to work from Firth Park to Hunters Bar and get there for 7 and then walk back again at 5.30 finish especially if you're not as young or as fit as you must be. but still have to work...or perhaps you don't.
  24. A long time ago when all the shops chipped in (don't know if they still do) we had the reputation of having the best display outside London. WHAT HAPPENED. They've even stopped decorating the peace gardens and unless you travel from castle gate to the bottom of the moor there's nothing. Surely I'm not the only one to like a bit of sparkle when I go through town.
