  1. The Chinese have landed a probe on the dark side of the moon. Maybe they can find the remains of " Ivor The Moon". Obelix, From Catt's book on Electromagnetism. It looks -to me- to be a pretty good description of a travelling wave . He says , his theories are proven experimentally. Interacting TEM waves. Generally, the interaction of two TEM waves is thought to be covered by Maxwell's Equations. However, I have shown (Ref.9) that this is not so. Maxwell's Equations contain only; (1) the velocity of propagation of the TEM wave and (2) the impedance of the medium . They contain no additional information about electromagnetism in general, let alone information on the way two colliding TEM waves interact. Even more curiously, the empirical laws governing reflection at a resistively terminated transmission line seem to be a body of knowledge divorced from Maxwell's Equations. Partial reflection in a transmission line. It is found experimentally that if a TEM wave travels down a uniform transmission line (Fig.11) joined to a different transmission line , some of the energy current reflects at the discontinuity and some continues (Ref.10). The voltage reflection coefficient is found to be . In particular, if a pulse V travelling down a transmission line at the speed of light collides into a termination made up of three resistors in series, then a pulse reflects and dissipates across the termination; ( in each resistor). The front end of a long transmission line looks exactly like a resistor. The situation remains the same in Figure 12; three downstream coaxial cables connected in series, mimicking the three resistors, and also (Fig.13) a parallel plate transmission line delivering the pulse into three such lines in series. Our next step is to widen the parallel plates to infinity, and this gives us our simplest situation for analysis (Fig.14). Having reached this stage, we can set out to gain the broader insights which our experimental knowledge of reflection in transmission lines gives us. (Consideration of conservation of energy and also that the voltage across the discontinuity must be continuous lead us to the same formula for the reflection coefficient.) 3. Obelix, It's not universally held that I Catt wrote crap. I have in front of me. Digital Electronic Design. VOl 1. Catt, Walton and Davidson. I've read it from cover to cover several times. His lecturers speak for themselves. I prefer this discussion than the ramblings of FE's. You never know, what goes between you and I may induce others to delve into the science of electronics, communications and electromagnetic theory and principles.

  5. I apologise to anybody if they are offended by the "F". word. I would have "blanked " it out if it had been possible. Obelix, Thanks for the insight.

  8. Angelfire1, I've been close up to these creatures. When sailing back from Svalbard three humpbacks surfaced around the boat. The three of us sailing the boat where speechless. The whales stayed with us for 15minutes. For me, there is no halfway measure on hunting them. It's just plain wrong. They then sounded and I saw the fin disappear beneath the waves-just like in the video.

  10. Albert Smith. I agree with you completely. It's just plain wrong to hunt these creatures.
  11. Mike 10. I remember EL from way back. Brilliant Ideas on linear induction as a means of locomotion. An insightful genius in my estimation. When I ran the Machines Lab at Southgate College. I used great big rectified moving coil measuring instruments -and shunts and multipliers- just like Eric is using in his experiment. Seeing them again takes me back a bit-found memories.
  12. Obelix, thanks for the reply. You may find the following of interest. A bit beyond my expertise-but I get the gist. https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC6232576/ Melthebell, Great video.
  13. Swarfenforf43, Interesting video. The examples of magnetism used are well known to 21st Century physics. Some of the concepts you include in your thread I've come across in the writings of Swedenborg ,( as above, so below -and Correspondence theory)). Rupert Sheldrake (morphic resonance) and Murray Bookchin theories of Village Green democracy and Lewis Mumford (the move away from the metropolis ).With the exception of Bookchin and Mumford, the others are a bit esoteric. As for the cause of gravity, whatever it is must be ubiquitous and instantaneous.
  14. C. W. D These three were not barmpots but incredible brilliant engineers. It's so hard to get hold of their work. Obelix, Had they gone off at a complete tangent to the electromagnetic principles that we now apply in electronic/electrical engineering ?

  16. Obelix, I'll get back with a little more detail on "Energy Current". At least we've got some physics going instead of the FE nonsense. All the best for 2019 Energy Current, In his Electrical Papers, Vol1 1892 page 43, Heaviside wrote: " It becomes important to find the paths along which the energy is being transmitted.First, define the energy-current at a point to be the amount of energy transferred in unit time across unit area perpendicular to the direction of transmission...... This is true universally, irrespective of the nature of the medium as to conductivity, capacity, and permeability,..... and is true in transients as well as in steady states. A line of energy -current is perpendicular to the electric and magnetic force and is a line of pressure. We here give a few general notions. Return to our wire from London to Edinburgh with a steady current from the battery in London. The energy is poured out of the battery sideways into the dielectric at a steady rate.... Most of the energy is transmitted parallel to the wire nearly ...... But some of the outer tubes go out into space to an immense distance..... If there is an instrument in circuit ar Edinburgh,it is worked by an energy that has travelled wholly through the dielectric, then finding its way into the instrument...... where it enters... and is there dissipated. In a circular circuit, with the battery at one end of a diameter, its other end is the neutral point; the lines of energy current are distributed symmetrically with respect to the diameter. On closing the battery circuit (i.e. switching the logic output)there is an immediate rush of energy into the dielectric. " This very puzzling for one educated in the principles expounded by Fleming,Maxwell and Farady.
  17. Physics: The conventional approach to the subject of digital electronics is to concentrate on the current in wires-with some additional consideration of voltages between wires. Heaviside concentrated primarily on what he called,"Energy Current",this being the electromagnetic field which travels in the dielectric between the wires. This is a bit different than the idea that the signal is an electric current that travels down copper wires. For all you scientists, engineers and electricians brought up on the Faraday and Maxwell explanations, I ask you to seriously look at what Heaviside was proposing. Heaviside's Electrical Papers of 1892 are not the ramblings of a dunce.
