  1. My wife took me to Madiera for a holiday. We had a nice time but Madiera's 's not all it's cracked up to be.
  2. The first time Veolia don't empty my bin the council will find a "deposit" on the town hall steps. I'm the rate payer, bill payer and voter I don't see why a contractor should be refusing to provide the service the are contracted to carry out .
  3. I think more people should drive through bus gates, then SCC will gather so much money in fines my council tax will go down.
  4. Note to mods. I think you can close this thread now.
  5. Not the police the Environment agency, and believe me if you upset the agency for any reason they would not hesitate to prosecute you for any thing they could.
  6. Thats not the point, I don't give a stuff what you put in your bin I was just pointing out a fact.
  7. Your neighbour is also breaking the law. As householders we have a specific exemption under the various waste disposal regulations from most of the obligations and paperwork normally required, however the exemption only applies to the rubbish produced by your own household and deposited in your own bin.
  8. I remember saying when the price of a pint got to 50p I was going to stop drinking. Well that didn't quite work out as planned.
  9. Stones cask bitter made by Everards in Leicestershire, keg bitter made by Coors in their giant beer factory in Burton on Trent or the ghastly nitro fiz creamflow made in Tadcaster. I still drink Stones occasionally but it's just not the same as it used to be when the cannon brewery was making it. nowadays I prefer to drink real ale produced by local brewers, Bradfield farmers bitter is my current favorite.
  10. Both Robinsons in Stockport and Jennings in Cockermouth made Wards for a while as contract brewers for "The maxim brewing company", ex Vaux employees who own the rights to the name and recipe. They opened their own brewery near Sunderland in 2007.
  11. I get so mad when people get ripped off by garages like this. First, doing this work without contacting you and getting your approval is totally unacceptable. Second, although I don't know your car precisely, I will say this categorically if he changed the jockey wheel or any part of the timing drive system without changing the belt (and possibly other components depending on which engine is fitted) at the same time, the guy is not a competent mechanic. I wonder how he knew to go looking for timing issues? I suspect that its an easy one to fool unsuspecting customers into parting with cash with out doing any work.
  12. Carlsberg (who own the Tetley brand name) have been making Tetleys in their giant beer factory in Burton on Trent for some years. Only (some?) of the cask conditioned beer was produced at the Leeds brewery. The smooth, keg, extra cold or whatever "new" initiative they come up with will still be made in B on T . The cask conditioned beer will be made by a contract brewer, initially Marstons in Wolverhampton but that may change. Most Tetleys served will not change, only the hand pulled beer will alter, despite their best efforts its unlikely moving breweries will maintain the drinking experience. The parallels between this brewery closure and what happened to Stones bitter when they closed the Cannon brewery are inescapable.
  13. to quote a wychwood hobgoblin promotion "what's a' matter lager boy? Afraid you might taste something?"
  14. I'll second that, They don't do repairs so they don't do "fails" to get work, you can watch the tester doing the test and he will show you if anything's wrong, oh and the only charge £35
  15. The Pen Nook Deepcar, it's still my "local" although I don't go in much these days.
  16. Objectifies, demeans, exploitation, words often used to describe these type of jobs. These feminist loonies should try working in a melting shop, down a mine or cleaning sewers for a living believe me given the option where people paid wages just to look at me I can tell you in a shot which career path I would choose.
  17. Race card, Race card lets play the race card. The chip on your shoulder is so big must stop you getting through doors. No one has sugested these thugs ethnicity is a factor so why have you introduced it?
  18. Its French, the electrics will be completely mental and all the trim and plastic bits will break and fall off.
  19. Its very simple you are a human being, homo sapien, the most successful higher organism the planet has ever seen. The primary reason for the species success is its large brain, larger than any other species as a percentage of body mass, the development of our large brain is facilitated by the human diet we can eat just about anything even food normally inedible can be eaten thanks to preparation and cooking. The human species has developed its omnivorous habits to such an extent that it now needs food from all the major food groups to be healthy and that includes meat. In fact vegetarians cannot be healthy unless they include supplements to their diet to make up for the lack of animal products in their food. The same is not true however of some groups eg traditional Inuits who have develope to live entirely on animals for food.
  20. Sheffield is a big city, its water is supplied largely by Yorkshire water from its numerous reservoirs around the south Yorkshire area. Its not even possible to say which reservoir serves which part of the city, a large part of the central area gets its water from the Moonshine lane facility which takes water from the reservoirs and blends to suit water quality and manage stocks. Some areas like Stocksbridge only take water from Langsett however if the langsett supply fails for any reason it is possible to feed in the opposite direction to normal.
  21. I think this would be the Yanks preferred option. Parading him in an orange jump suit or putting him on trial to humiliate him before sending him to the electric chair would have fitted better for the American mentality. However killed in a fire fight and buried at sea is probably the best way for the rest of the western world, neat and quick, no time for violent protests during his captivity and no shrine for the martyr.
  22. What's it got to do with Sheffield council? Violia are a private company who undertake various environmental activities for the council on contract. You would have to go a long way to lay any blame with the council under the circumstances described.
  23. Can Heironymus Merkin Ever Forget Mercy Humppe and Find True Happiness?
  24. Look up the term non sequitur. I'll quite happily discuss the generally poor standard of car drivers and I suspect we will agree, however the standard of car driving has got nothing to do with the poor behaviour of cyclists. You need to construct a stand that defends your argument, relying on a non sequitur is circuitous and achieves nothing.
  25. Start a thread about poor car driving standards and I'll be right there with you condemning the standard of car driving, but the standard of car driving and the behavior of cyclists is not connected. You cannot escape the the perceived experience that the majority of car drivers stick to the rules where as the majority of cyclists do not.
