From 3pm till late, we see this month's Gumbo in the White Lion. Each month is a charity fundraiser for a local concern. This month sees us supporting The Real Junk Food Project, who aim to raise awareness of food waste, but also are providing some delicious food for us on a pay-what-you-feel basis. All food comes from a variety of sources including local businesses, supermarkets, catering events, local households, food banks, farms and wholesalers. In addition to this, we'll be hearing from the same lively set of DJs with their unique mix of soul, funk, hip-hop, roots and reggae. Kid friendly, with plenty of activities going on - come and support! Gumbo

First Tuesday of the month is ALWAYS the Jazz Jam at The White Lion, Heeley. From 8.30pm till late and free entry - a good do and some stellar performers so hopefully see you next month.

Hi there We've been really busy and the feedback has been great so far apart from a technical hiccup (now fixed) on the Jaipur line and also problems with the tills. Basically the tills are connected to the internet and although we have a new pricing structure we cannot implement it until the broadband is fixed. Very frustrating. In terms of beer, popular demand from customers has seen the return of Moonshine, Sequoia and Jaipur whilst we have also guested Black Sheep, Blond Witch and Spitfire over the last week with more to come. Other house ales currently include Hobgoblin and the house Lion's Main. Thanks to everyone who has come down, enjoyed and supported - overwhelming.

Hi GleadlessLad No short measures now! You'll also be pleased to know that, as of yesterday, we can now order Thornbridge beers so first job Monday is to organise the Jaipur, Sequoia etc

It certainly was! He, alongside everybody else, was fantastic, quite a night indeed. Hope we managed to please you all (we weren't expecting to be quite THAT busy) - we were really happy with the comments about the quality of the beer

Hi Norbert It is Mandy with the pink hair! Dogs are therefore welcomed rather than tolerated! We have no interest in excluding people based upon their headwear. We take over tomorrow, shutting Monday and Tuesday to take care of the cleaning, ordering, pricing, tills etc, and then back open from Wednesday onwards. We have a mini-launch on Friday - I say mini-launch as there is a significant refurb to take place (toilets etc) which will necessitate a few other days of closure whilst this - much needed - revamp takes place. The staff who are being retained have been doing their best to explain the current situation and to let people know of the change next week so yes, hopefully not too much damage!

You'll be well catered for in that regard, you have my word. Thank you, that's very nice of you to say. Yes, we're from the area and are keen to make it somewhere that represents the local interests. We really want to support local charities, groups, concerns and small businesses in Heeley and Meersbrook - if something you do fits this bill then please do get in touch as we would like the facilities we have available to promote your activites and get the word out to the area.

Yes indeed! We are continuing the live music tradition and also expanding the range to include new items like Martin Bedford's Honeybee Blues Club. We'll be using the events section on SF to advertise as well as the website, Facebook etc so keep an eye out on there.

Hi Andy (and every one else) Sorry to hear of your bad experience at the pub. In the spirit of transparency, I'll let you know what's going on. Currently the pub is in the hands of a holding company whilst the transfer of ownership goes through. Never a great thing for a pub, but there was little choice in the matter due to the time involved in getting all the legals sorted. As a result of the tenancy conditions imposed on a holding company, it means that they do not qualify to order beers outside of a stock range and this then means that they have not been able to get the normal mainstays such as Jaipur, Sequoia, Moonshine etc. Myself and my partner are the new owners going in. This is for a 5 year lease as a minimum and we take ownership on Monday 23rd Feb. We've been residents of the area for 15 years and have been regulars at The White for roughly the same amount of time so we're fully aware of what the pub was, what it is now and what it also needs to get back on track. It goes without saying that we're fully committed on making the place great again. I'll be posting on here as things go along and develop, particularly as we have some big changes planned - diversifying the music, a focus on community (especially local concerns and charities), a reinvestment in the beer and malt whisky offer and, possibly most importantly, a review of the pricing! There's a lot more but this isn't the thread for that info. Like said at the start, I'm sorry you had a bad experience and its very frustrating for us as it is out of our hands until next week.
