Their anthemic songs are bursting at the seams with soaring guitars, gripping and unforgettable melodies, and unbeatable choruses. Expect beautiful ballads right through to burning Be-Bop; meaningful Mainstream to mad Modal; furious Funk to the frightfully Free; lively Latin to luscious Lounge; and classic Cool through to the curiously Contemporary! 8.30pm, free entry. Knock 3 times and say necessity sent you. Tues 16th July: Treebeard Folk Session Chris McMahon (Treebeard, Haze, Strongheart, Silverwheel) and friends join us for a new night of acoustic folk. Come play, watch and listen. 9pm, free entry Friday 19th July: Vamp Vamp formed in 2003 and gig all over the North of England from their home base of South Yorks. They play a mix of 'Good Time' Classic Rock songs along with a few of their own mixed in. The band are a 'Digital Free Zone', playing Vintage Guitars through old Valve Amps. Classic rock at it's very best. Only playing 8 gigs this year due to new projects, check them out on this rare appearance for 2019. 9.30pm, free entry Saturday 20th July: Schaeffer Schaeffer started life in the mid 1980’s as a reflection of the move rock music was making from NWOBHM to a more ‘glam’ / ‘pop’ style of more accessible music They played a mixture of original material and pop rock covers from the charts at the time. After some local success playing around the north of England and through various lineup changes they called it a day in 1992. Since this time all band have had various other projects, many with some success. In 2017 Mark and Harris decided that some of the old original material was worthy of a reboot and gathered a group of top musos from local bands to help reform Schaeffer. Get ready! 9.30pm, free entry Sunday 21st July: The Martin Allen Swearathon A tribute and a fundraiser to Mein Host, the marvelous Martin Allen. We're opening at noon to make sure all of Martin's favourite bands get a chance to play so please take note of the earlier opening time! Featuring in no particular order: Fahrenheit Open Jaw Fayre The Carnival Metropolis Swear Box Paddy Maguire Vyndictive Marv White and more All playing throughout the day and there'll be food, raffles and plenty of opportunity to raise cash for Ashgate. We hope to see you all here, sharing some memories of a wonderful fella and listening to the music he loved. 5pm, free entry

Tues 9th July: Break A Leg / Mums In Need music fundraiser Jig For a Kiss An eight-piece multi-instrumental band with six voices, playing foot-stomping, heart-warming, uplifting music from traditional roots around the world. Should be a riotous end to the evening following some more laid back music from our other guests. https://jigforakiss.band/ Shaun Hutch A really fine singer and interpreter of folk songs and he writes some lovely stuff too. Shaun is a real trouper, he supports and promotes other musicians, organises events and is extremely generous so it's easy to overlook that he is one of Sheffield's most engaging performers. Fretworks Break a Leg! won't be playing this month as Chris has gone off somewhere (he'll be back). Malcolm and Shaun are consummate guitarists and singers and we are really pleased to have them standing in for us in the resident band spots and helping Karen run the evening. There is no charge for admission but we will be collecting for Mums In Need, who will be there to tell you about their work, so please come with a generous spirit and cash. Mums in Need is a small Sheffield charity which supports mums who have left emotionally/mentally abusive relationships and want to rebuild their lives. Sunday 7th July: Chris McMahon's Folk Session Hosted by renowned musician Chris McMahon of Treebeard, a Sunday afternoon session of folk music. Each month brings a host of performers and also a guest artist. This month's guest is All Day Dog's Breakfast. A new solo project by Sheffield-based musician, songwriter and producer Michael Harding, aka The Only Michael. Michael is probably best known as half of ambient electronica duo Animat and has collaborated with writers, poets and visual artists on recordings and performances over the last twenty years. 3.30pm, free entry

The band formed in the early '90s and has since become well established in South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire as one of the top rock cover bands in the region. The set includes a wide variety of songs including tracks by Led Zeppelin, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Journey, Toto and many more. The live performance is enhanced by the subtle use of backing tracks providing keyboard lines to faithfully recreate some of the best songs ever written. A 5 piece band, covering the likes of Pink Floyd, UFO, Deep Purple, Faith No More, Muse, ELO, Bon Jovi, Queen etc but they have to be seen to be believed. Please be aware that these guys are very popular. If you require seating then it is advised to arrive earlier than normal as we cannot reserve any areas on this night. 9.30pm, free entry Saturday 22nd June: Tin Man Tin Man is a new project for ex Tigerzye band mates Dale Radclife (vocals), John Hardman (guitar) and Andy Scott (bass), Bravado Skins man Dean Cousins and Atomic keyboard player Richard Ashton. Tues 11th June: Break A Leg Raising funds for Sheffield's DeHood Boxing Club Dogwood Rose Mike Richards, Judy Clifford and Chris McMahon specialise in great performances of American music with spectacular vocals from Judy, great instrumental work from Chris and exquisitely dreadful jokes from Mike. Kate Green with Raymond Greenoaken Kate's roots are in Scotland and she has a deep interest in the craft of singing. She was “Singer Of The Year” at the 1992 National Folk Festival. Roy Bailey has said, “Kate Green has a voice to move you out of your seat”. Be prepared for a real treat. Break a Leg! is Karen Hisom & Chris Rust, Vocal+Clarinet/Saxophone+Guitar. Forgotten classics and originals, played with class and passion. When was the last time you heard songs from Slade, Sweet, Rick Springfield, Don Henley, be Bop Deluxe, Lou Reed , Georgia Satellites etc etc plus some of the more esoteric Thin Lizzy? Rock with a rock n' roll swagger - they smashed it last time they played and are only getting better. 9.30pm, free entry Saturday 25th May: Gav Coulson Group Highly respected guitarist Gavin Coulson arrives at The White Lion this evening, but this time with his own group. Playing a selection of fine tunes from Deep Purple, ZZ Top, Jimi Hendrix to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Gary Moore amongst many others, a belter of a rock night is anticipated! Baz Groom - Photographer and Reviewer for Rock of The North... "What band in their right mind would perform the Allman Bros "Whippin Post" on a Friday night in the Boot & Shoe? More importantly, get away with it? Well that band would be the Gav Coulson Group. The same song even got em' up dancing (until they realised the song is a tad over 3 minutes!) And along with tracks from Gary Moore, Hendrix, Glenn Hughes, Walter Trout and a blistering take on Joe Bonamassa's version of Just Got Paid, the group went down a storm. Most know of Gavin's prowess on the guitar, but this is no 'one man band'. Four cracking musicians who know their stuff. Keyboards from Chris Pilkington ex Storm Bringer & Empress really give the band a rich sound. Tues 14th May: Break-A-Leg The first of our monthly concert style acoustic music events raising money for good causes in Sheffield Clean Air In Sheffield is a group of volunteers monitoring air quality and campaigning for change to protect vulnerable people from toxic emissions, especially around schools. Tom Jackson is an acoustic folk-punk singer/songwriter from Barnsley South Yorkshire. Raised on punk music in a working-class home, Tom's music has a fine balance of cynicism yet hope about his world and the world around him. With relatable, engaging lyrics and storytelling in his songs, along with an element of socio-political observations which he doesn't refrain from speaking out about, Tom's live shows are far from that of a stereotypical acoustic performer. As an out and out frontman with a drive to get his music heard and to strike a chord with as many people as possible, Tom Jackson is very much an up-and-coming force not to be missed. 3.30pm, free entry

Playing a selection of fine tunes from Deep Purple, ZZ Top, Jimi Hendrix to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Gary Moore amongst many others, a belter of a rock night is anticipated! Baz Groom - Photographer and Reviewer for Rock of The North... "What band in their right mind would perform the Allman Bros "Whippin Post" on a Friday night in the Boot & Shoe? More importantly, get away with it? Well that band would be the Gav Coulson Group. The same song even got em' up dancing (until they realised the song is a tad over 3 minutes!) And along with tracks from Gary Moore, Hendrix, Glenn Hughes, Walter Trout and a blistering take on Joe Bonamassa's version of Just Got Paid, the group went down a storm. Most know of Gavin's prowess on the guitar, but this is no 'one man band'. Four cracking musicians who know their stuff. Keyboards from Chris Pilkington ex Storm Bringer & Empress really give the band a rich sound.
