With a full backline provided and accompaniment if requested, it's a perfect platform to showcase your music and even secure a full paid gig at The White. Always an evening of great music, previous performers have included Julian Jones, Richard Hawley, Thor, Sam Wain, Fahrenheit, Grave Danger & many more. 9pm Friday 1st Feb: Gav Coulson Group Highly respected guitarist Gavin Coulson arrives at The White Lion this evening, but this time with his own group. Playing a selection of fine tunes from Deep Purple, ZZ Top, Jimi Hendrix to Stevie Ray Vaughan and Gary Moore amongst many others, a belter of a rock night is anticipated! Baz Groom - Photographer and Reviewer for Rock of The North... "What band in their right mind would perform the Allman Bros "Whippin Post" on a Friday night in the Boot & Shoe? More importantly, get away with it? Well that band would be the Gav Coulson Group. The same song even got em' up dancing (until they realised the song is a tad over 3 minutes!) And along with tracks from Gary Moore, Hendrix, Glenn Hughes, Walter Trout and a blistering take on Joe Bonamassa's version of Just Got Paid, the group went down a storm. Most know of Gavin's prowess on the guitar, but this is no 'one man band'. Four cracking musicians who know their stuff. Keyboards from Chris Pilkington ex Storm Bringer & Empress really give the band a rich sound. Please be aware that these guys are very popular. The band formed in the early '90s and has since become well established in South Yorkshire and North Derbyshire as one of the top rock cover bands in the region. The set includes a wide variety of songs including tracks by Led Zeppelin, Whitesnake, Deep Purple, Rainbow, Journey, Toto and many more. The live performance is enhanced by the subtle use of backing tracks providing keyboard lines to faithfully recreate some of the best songs ever written. The Special Branch do not have any regular funding and functions solely through the time and effort of local duo Nicky and Darren.
