  1. if your living in the city centre, to be honest you prob won't need a taxi, everythings within walking distance! and if not, although people moan about our buses, they are pretty regular and most run until 11.30- midnight.
  2. my old housemate moved to sheffield from grimsby a couple of years ago with her boyfriend. they split up and she moved into our house not knowing anyone and quite depressed, but now she loves it here, has loads of friends and even though her family are all still in grimsby she couldn't move back, she says that Sheffield is just so much better! At first she felt a bit 'lost' being in a big city compared to Grimsby. but like Plain Talker says, were 'the biggest village in england'. Which part of hallam uni are you moving near? the majority of it is in town, a lot of students live around sharrow and norfolk park, i personally like both areas, i work in sharrow and have friends in norfolk park. they have a bit of a reputation but like other people have said, don't advetise your phone etc and you shouldn't have any prob's!
  3. and by the way. I'm not a Mr, nor am i 'middle class scum' as you seem to think i am from your previous posts, i suggest you read CAREFULLY what I originally wrote, and don't make personal assumptions about someone when you know nothing about them.
  4. what the hell are you on about? why don't use try using my real username instead of trying to be funny because your not
  5. against, I don't know how you got the impression that I'm for racism!
  6. sorry, how is saying that they were chavs and racially abusing someone double standards? they were chavs, and they were shouting racist comments at the blokes in the kebab house? so wheres the double standard there?
  7. they COULD make highfield library fit with disablilty and fire regs, but it would cost them too much money- it needs a lift, a fire exit from the first floor, and a new roof as the current one leaks. A few years ago we were told it would cost over 40 grand just for the lift.
  8. there was an incident on sheldon rd over the weekend- some kids were chucking fireworks at peoples houses so a big group of adutls-about 15 or so- went out to try and hunt them down, I don't know if they found them or what happened, my work mate told me this, they threw one at his dog.
  9. haha, yep, I've also noticed that someone is advertising some newly refurbished flats next to roundabout opposite the library, they want 450 a month for em, which doesn't sound too bad until you factor in the drug dealer behind them and the trouble that often occours outside roundabout. I personally think that putting the library up sharrow lane will discourage people from using it as it is a bit out of the way compared to where it is now. Also, they promised that the new library will have the same floor space, but in actual fact the whole space is less then the ground floor of the current building, which basically means that the children's library will end up being shoved in a corner, which we are not happy about. The space that the Children's library has is unique, and smaller space means that the children's activities put on for the local kids will not be able to happen.
  10. 2001Louise: the sweet shop on abbey lane went bankrupt becuase unfortunately they just couldn't make enough money from sellling sweets tobacco and cards. Spar and the card shops opposite ended up taking most of their business. I worked there for 3 years and when I first started we used to take around a grand a week on the lottery, and by the time it closed they took less then 100. Everyone ended up going to spar for their fags cos it was slightly cheaper, and there was a wider choice of cards in the new shops across the road. I personally think that with all the new cafes that look a bit more upmarket a 'news and booze' really isn't helping the areas already worsening reputation. I noticed that a couple of days after the new sign went up a bin liner was covering the 'booze' part, has someone damaged it already?
  11. but that doesn't mean that they won't be able to knock it down, it'll just be a lot harder to! I think it will be turned into flats because it's quite a big building and by altering the floor levels you can fit at least 4 floors in there, the ceiling in children's library is actually false so theres basically another floor above it. It'll be 'luxury flats' or maybe student flats.
  12. the ones you saw in KFC sound like the ones that were in the kebab house, the girl was certainly v drunk and had to prop herself up using a bin to chuck up. God I can't wait until wed night, its halloween AND half term!
  13. having just crawled out of bed stark naked to see what was going on I don't think they'd have been v scared of me coming out to give em a good hiding! Though sometimes I want to chuck boiling water at em from my window... It is quite worrying though, if they decided to put fireworks through a letterbox or something they could kill someone, they are clearly getting worse. I worry that they'll get into my yard and do god knows what in it!
  14. I believe the plan is to knock down half of the school but keep the other half. Inside the new building will be highfield library, mount pleasent college (run by Sheffield College) and sharrow citizens advice. There are other groups considering moving in there too. The architect has started to work on the plans, its the same lady who designed sharrow school. And the library will be sold off, but whoever buys it could possibly knock it down, as apparently only the inscription above the door is listed, not the whole building. I don't know how true that is though. It is supposed to be ready to move into by sept 2010. I work for one of the organisations moving into the new building, and we were only told for definate that this would be going ahead at a meeting on monday, but have known about it for a few years now. Highfield library would need a lot of money spent on it to make it conform to fire and safety reg's, and I guess that the council decided that it would be better to move into a new building rather then spend money on the current building. ALL of the money from the sale of the library will be put into this project though. As for the part of the school that is being retained, I've no idea what will be put in there!
  15. I got to watch a delightful chav show on friday night. We were woken up to the sounds of racist abuse coming from woodseats kebab, then saw a drunken 15 year old kick over all the bins and saunter off down the back towards mckessons or whatever its called. Then his girlfriend went outside and chucked up outside our flat, THEN we heard the sound of something being kicked in and discovered that it was the door to Carphone warehouse. They sit outside threshers and ask people to buy em cider then threaten em if they don't. And whoever posted that they arn't from around here is right, many of them have been given asbo's in other areas and come over here on the bus. I've actually been told this by a policeman.
