  1. Hi, Iā€™m looking for people who are related. Lots of you out there as my mother was one of eleven! The family was called Lawton and lived on Coleford Road in Darnall. The names of the children all born within 2 years of each other-probably from around 1915 ish. Jess ( male) Ellen, Mary, Henry, Violet, Margaret ( now aged 95 and lives at Cresswell Worksop) Dennis, Edith ( my mum married George Shepherd from Jenkin Road Brightside died in 1969) , Annie, Beattie, Elsie ( now 85 lives in Woodhouse) ,Harold Donald. Maybe pass some lockdown hours on !
  2. I am looking for an asbestos garage roof panel to replace a broken one, if anyone is taking there's down. I know all the problems associated with asbestos but having had sound advise from council specialist I understand it is very low grade and can be safely handled if kept damp and using protective clothing and mask.
  3. Swowls I lived at 27 Tyler Street, my mum used the hairdressers. My Grandparents bought the shop in the 40's from I think some one called Thacker, I'm not 100% sure of that name my memories fading! I remember someone going to the outside toilet at the hairdressers and having a heart attack while there and no one could get in to help! Must have been around 1964 ish. I remember the Stanniland family and Birkby family were our neighbours. And a dog called Rebel. Wow memories flooding back!

Does anyone remember the family?

  17. I was born on Tyler Street and my Gran had the shop on Jenkin road behind the doctors surgery (drs Lawson and Clarke) she remembered the huts and knew some who lived there. Weston was my aunts name and I believe she lived there a short while when first married, Shepherd was Nans name, she started married life on Tipton Street, with a strange address something like 1 1/2 row 2 or something like that then moved to Jenkin Road.
  18. My grandparents had corner shop (beer off) on bottom of Jenkin Rd Opposite Rising Sun Brightside. It was demolished in 1976 and houses built there.
  19. They also have a surgery on White Lane Gleadless, Just as difficult to get an appointment so we left. They are just not patient friendly at all. Ring at 8am if you want an appointment that day.....Engaged till all the appointments have gone.....Ring after 3pm....same story. I couldn't keep redialling cos I had to drive to work,if you have a day off work to try getting in but cant get through you have might as well have gone to work. I work as a Dental Nurse and if I dont turn up then many people are unable to get dental treament.. and how much do these people earn!!! more than me!!

  22. Just got connected to sky. The man who fitted the dish was a bit rude, wanted to fit it where we are having an extension put,cos it was easiest place(for him maybe) My hubby told him to put it where we wanted it or he could stuff it. So he fitted it. The phone was connected on the expected date ok. The broadband was active on the expected date, (3 days ago) but I had to connect router, no problem until I tried to connect to 2nd computer wirelessly... Had several hours on phone to helpline, god knows how much that costs. Had to change all settings on laptop, not something I could have known about, hurray it worked!! until I shut it down and it wont come back on wirelessly!!! Hours on the phone again? No am paying someone to come to set it up for my as it probably cheaper and quicker....
