  1. Uh Oh. Well until I can afford to visit the uk, I guess I'll have to declare my innings! Thanks everyone for all your help!
  2. Hey everyone. So it appears the we can't find much any further back than William Lingard who was born around 1770/1 in Litton Dale and BDM records didn't start until 1837, how can we track back further? Were people registered in a parish? jared
  3. Sorry YvonneOD, it won't allow me to! My email is just [email protected] if you wanted to email me?
  4. Yes, the names/nicknames makes it difficult and the repeated use of the same name all the more so! I originally searched for Tommy as Thomas thinking that was his birth name but it is actually his proper name. He had a brother named Jack but again I don't know if that is his real name or just another nickname. My grandmother used to correspond with one of his brothers after my grandfathers death (around 1984?) and he told her he was going in for some surgery. Then the letters stopped. ---------- Post added 21-10-2013 at 15:15 ---------- Sorry Yvonne, I am new to the forum and cannot send private messages but I would be interested in getting in touch with you. ---------- Post added 21-10-2013 at 15:16 ---------- @KenL60, ditto. I am interested in contacting you too.
  5. Thank you both very much for your help. According to Tommy's birth cert, George was a scissor Smith and Tommy was born at 83 Garden Street. Is anyone aware of trade directories for this period or land information to find out the status of the land at the time? These are just interesting side information but not critical. In the meantime I will order George and Fanny marriage cert. Thanks again.
  6. Hi Hillsbro Where did you find this information? Is it available online? I am Australian and not familiar with the BDM system in the UK. Sorry - I was wrong, on his birth certificate, he was actually born December 1923 but was not registered until July '24.
  7. HI everyone, I am looking at doing a family tree. My grandfather Tommy Lingard (born 1924) migrated to Australia in the 1940's and we (his descendants ) have had no further contact with anyone in the UK. I am looking for any descendants of George and Fanny Lingard nee Hogg (his parents) to see if they have any further information. I believe he had several siblings but do not know their names. Thanks for any help, Jared
