  1. GB Sheffield for BJJ and MMA, but then again i would say that. try them all then choose which you prefer, but remember what you want to get out of it and that you are only as strong as your weakest link... so work it all.
  2. Ladies and gents, Over the past few years we have dipped into the world of MMA with growing success and we have faced some excellent names at all levels. We've decided to build on this success by putting Forged MMA together and invest more time at our gym to grow the team of experienced fighters as well as new ones. We would also like to invite those who wish to train hard but don’t have an interest in competing as MMA should be as accessible as BJJ without the pressure of competing. So the gym is having a face lift with additional features including larger mat space and a 20ft cage, as well as other new equipment. The new timetable will start on the 1st November and we will be having an open day on the 30th October 11:00 - 14:30 for everyone to come and see the facelift. New time table Monday 5.15-6pm Kids BJJ 6-7pm Fundamentals BJJ 7-8pm Intermediate BJJ 8-8.30 Sparring Tuesday 6-7pm MMA Bag and Pad Work 7-8pm MMA Technical 8-8.30 Sparring Wednesday 5.15-6pm Kids BJJ 6-7pm Fundamentals BJJ 7-8pm Intermediate BJJ 8-8.30 Sparring Thursday 6-7pm MMA Cardio 7-8pm MMA Technical 8-8.30 Sparring Friday 6-7pm BJJ Sparing 7-8pm No Gi Training Saturday 10-11am Kids BJJ 11-12pm BJJ Open Mat 12-1pm MMA Open Mat The Forge Martial Arts Centre is located in the Old Norfolk Barracks, Clough Road, although the entrance is on Lancing Road Sheffield Tel.: 07738 588 925 - John Goldson Email: info@theforge-ma.co.uk follow this link for a map http://www.theforge-ma.co.uk/contact_us.html

  4. Thats good to hear, i was taking about clubs where the black belt runs the club on a daily basis (sorry for the confusion) in the north. such as speedy elliots, gb preston, and so on. gb sheffield is run daily by a brown belt, so are other clubs in leeds, manchester and so on. the point i was making is that forget the "you and us" thing sheffield is small, but has quite a few bjj clubs, but ranked in the WHOLE north nether club would be rated in the top five..... so to say that EKBJJ north is the best club up north is so far away from the truth. anyway back to the grind... have fun and stay classy sheffield Gregg
  5. the only problem/ issue i can see is the statement about the best club in the north, as others have said there are numerous BJJ Black Belts in the north of england, not just brazilians but home grown uk guys. personally i find it quite disrespectful to make a remark like this, i know your trying to "pimp" your club and thats fine, i like the website, it looks kinda sexy. i think it may just have been an oversight but follow this link to see a map of the bjj clubs in the uk (may not be a definative list, but a good start) paying attention to the north and see if you can honestly stand by the statement. http://www.slideyfoot.com/2000/01/uk-bjj-club-list.html anyway as everyone is saying, try every club you can. i'm always going to recomend Barra because thats my club, and i feel more than confidet in our record/ name/ instructor is the best, 40+ students a session cant be wrong. live the dream Gregg
  6. six days a week....... i'm going to need a note to explain to the wife why i'm not going to be home much.... cant wait for this, JOHN GOLDSON JIU JITSU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! er and MMA
  7. good day all, with the rise in blog culture i was wondering if anyone on here write a blog about thier art/style/training ect ect i thought it may be a good idea to have a list of peoples blogs for others to reference. thanks gregg http://bigstewbjj.wordpress.com/ Big Stu's BJJ Blog is a good read http://meerkat69.blogspot.com/ a guy down london who write a very informative one and so on...... please add any you know of.
  8. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu is one of the fastest growing sports in the world, and is making its bid to become an Olympic sport. Its popularity is growing due to its effectiveness and its emphasis on technique over strength allowing smaller fighters to overcome bigger opponents. The number of ladies training and competing in BJJ has sky rocketed in the last few years, this is great for the sport and every club needs to promote and encourage its ladies teams. Brazilian Jiu Jitsu builds confidence, athleticism, and fitness and is great fun; you do not need any level of fitness or previous experience. Gracie Barra Sheffield has some of the best coaching staff available; we train in a fully equipped gym with specialist mats suited to our style of training. Gracie Barra Sheffield are offering Ladies unlimited training in BJJ and Grappling for £25 per month, this isn’t an introductory offer this is the standard price for any lady wanting to learn the art of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu. For more information contact John Goldson on 07738588925 or visit http://www.theforge-ma.co.uk you can also join our Face Book Group at http://www.facebook.com/?sk=2361831622#!/group.php?gid=6430369507
  9. The Forge Martial Arts Centre Home of Gracie Barra Sheffield Ladies and gentlemen of Sheffield and the surrounding area, Gracie Barra Sheffield is proud to say that we can offer the highest levels of Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Grappling anywhere in the area. We are the only club who can offer all classes being taken by a BJJ Brown Belt, and regular sessions with world class BJJ Black Belts, Lucio ‘Lagarto’ and Lucio Sergio Dos Santos. Congratulations on the latest medals won by GB Sheffield fighters Stu and Hayden both coming home with silver medals from last weekends Seni 2010 martial arts show. And to Sam Boult who won another MMA contest on Friday night, most people who know Sam will understand that he is a true warrior, this fight proves that, as he wasn’t even scheduled to fight on this event. Sam agreed to fight at the last minute, so last minute that he had a pint in hand when he was asked. True to form the fight was short and sweet with Sam submitting his opponent early in the first round by triangle submission. 13. Massive congratulations to Paul "Paulinio" Cole on recieving his BJJ Brown belt last night from our chief Black Belt Prof. Lagarto After over coming the disadvantages of being from Birmingham and half the size of a real person, Paulinio has worked his ass off and left much blood, sweat and tears on the mats. From all at GB Sheffield well done On the same night two new Blue belts were awarded also.... so congratulations to Chaz and Paul. Well Done Guys

  16. Lagarto was in town again today for another one of his famous 'Blg Class' sessions. As we all have learned today 'the devil is in the details' After some hard sparing the follwing people recieved thier well earned blue belts; Stu 'Bigger than Big' Norris Mohamed 'Everyone calls me Yousif because i'm to polite to tell them my first name is Mohamed' Yousif Tien "Paraceete' Pham and after putting in the time, blood, effort and tears the following people recieved thier Purple belts; Max 'vegan and proud' Mitchell Ryan 'Why am i here?' and by no means least...... Noel 'ThemadRev' Erwin this takes the total to 10 purple belts at GB Sheffield, well done guys congrats to the guys who got stripes as well oh and the kids, well done to the kids photos and stuff on facebook and on the site soon
  17. its got to be BJJ, like a great man once said, "its like a game of chess" but another guy said.. "its like a game of chess, where i've got a gun..... you idiot its nothing like chess" happy days
  18. sorry noel, and thanks for the update. and i forgot all about the kids sorry
  19. Lagarto was in town today for one of his famous "Big Class" sessions, thanks to all the team who turned up. With over 35 people on the mats, this turned out to be one of the best seminars we have had at GB Sheffield with a good mix of beginners who met the "Lizard" for the first time, and bjj veterans all of who showed some impressive skills. The team looked strong and Lagarto was impressed with individuals, enough so that a number of people were given stripes and some full promotions. this is not a complete list as my memory is not great, i'll add details as i get them, but: Russ (Horus) - Purple Magid - Blue - Magid also took his whipping wearing only a box and his pants John (TrueBJJ) - / brown Dunk (shokajuji?) - / purple Ryan - //// Blue Noel (Madrev) - //// Blue Rich (BJJRich) - //// Blue Rob - //// Blue Hayden - // Blue Paul L - / Blue James - / Blue Guy - / Blue Ben - / Blue Stu - // White Chaz - / White Irene - / White i'm sure there are more. watch this space well done to everyone.
