  1. Hi Jaco… I’ll PM you. Thanks for your message.
  2. ...for covers band. Prior to lockdown we were a gigging rock / northern soul dance band doing pubs, clubs and parties. Post lockdown we are a drummer, guitarist and vocalist looking for collaborators to start again. We are good musicians just looking to play and have a good time. The format going forward is open ended. For the moment we want to meet, rehearse and see what develops. Age not important- we are 40’s- 50’s.
  3. Hi Neil, I've sent you a private message - check your inbox Ben
  4. We are a Northern soul / Rock covers / party band five piece brass-section plus all the usual. At the moment we are seven men and two women ages between 20's and 50's. We have a handful of original songs in the set, the rest are a mixture of well-known to obscure soul, dance and rock things with the odd hint of Jazz and Rockabilly. We've got gigs lined up until September and we usually play about twice a month in a variety of pubs, clubs events and parties. We usually get paid, sometimes a decent amount but there are so many of us it doesn't amount to much. Our drummer is going away and we're looking to replace him. In terms of style we're looking for funky & rocky. I'd also like someone who's got a bit of a feel for contemporary hip-hop influenced grooves. We rehearse once a week in Sheffield. You can hear a bit of us on our Facebook page - in Facebook search: spankyjohnsonsoul

  6. Hi, Similar to the poster above, I'm in a band most of whom are 50+. We are Spanky Johnson, a nine-piece Rock & Soul band with male and female vocals and a brass section. We play mostly covers of Soul and dance music with a smattering of original material. The emphasis is very much on audience engagement, dancing and general good times. Of the nine of us six are 50+. We'd love to play, I can send recordings and more info if required. Cheers, Ben ---------- Post added 27-08-2016 at 08:21 ---------- ...P.S: I'm 48, but I can pass for 50, honest.
  7. What kind of music and how would you describe your playing ecactus? I have a band on the go which might want another guitar. Aiming towards Rockabilly, Country Rock, hints of klezmer / gypsy ( as in we like it but aren't technical enough to do it full on!) but not sufficiently well described by any of those monikers. We are about your age, all with lots of band experience, one semi-informal gig lined up and keen to put together a gigging set quite quickly. I'd be looking for a guitarist who is happy to play lead or rhythm, harmony singing or turns up front at the mic, although the vocal side is optional as we already have two singers. I post this speculatively as I suspect you might be a smooth and sophisticated player and I'm going for jangly and quirky, so it might not be a good fit. Good luck.
  8. Rob, if that doesn't work out the Reluctants might be a good home for you. Established band, gigs lined up. Ben
  9. Hey Ant, band looks good, well done. I must come to one of your gigs and beat myself up for the missed opportunity! Ben
  10. I am 46. More of an early rockabilly intent, less psychobilly more hillbilly. With a swing- danceable feel. The project is underway now, appropriate for a Chet Atkins or Django Reinheart rather than metal/ grunge type. You're welcome to get involved if your interested. ---------- Post added 18-12-2014 at 07:04 ---------- Sorry Steptoad, I replied thinking this was my thread. Oops.
  11. Doesn't anyone like rockabilly?
  12. The Reluctants require a trumpet, trombone or other brass player. We are a Soul Rock band. Lineup: Drums, Bass, Lead & Rhythm guitars, two sax players and me, vocalist. As trumpeter you would be joining two very nice blokes in the brass section. You don't have to be Miles Davis, we're talking stax stabs mostly, but obviously the more proficient you are the more you will be able to contribute. There is some strong musicianship in the band, but mostly we're tight and getting tighter. We have gigs lined up and are building our rep. Our ages vary from 30's to late 50's but we don't mind if you are younger or more venerable. We're all men, but not on principle. If you are a female trumpeter and can sing that would be great. Mostly we have a good time.
  13. Hi, Looking for one or two collaborators for a low-fi, light-touch Rockabilly project. Upright Bass would be great, percussion also. Think Eddie Cochran meets Tom Waits with a bit of Reverend Horton Heat thrown in. I play guitar and other stringed things mostly rhythm some lead, but Brian Setzer I aint. For mood and presentation my top live band at the moment are The Urban Voodoo Machine. I like building instruments, so if anyone's willing, I'll build an upright suitcase bass. See my blog for a 4- string guitarI built. http://bendylanpedler.blogspot.co.uk I also front a Rock & Soul band and we are in need of a trumpet player.
