  1. As a result of this post, BBC Radio Sheffield have asked to interview me.. Interesting!
  2. Thank you Chez2, great advice. We may well be back in touch..
  3. Thank you all for the information. Some great advice. I have been 'fighting' the school for well over 18 months now, and have had various meetings deputy heads, heads of science and heads, some of whom I have had to explain the system they are there to discuss with me! I kid you not. I have written to the board of governors and contacted Ofsted. It has not got me anywhere. I have recently discovered, purely by accident that High Storrs has done a complete reverse on the structure or system that is preventing my daughter from taking science this year. It is now compulsory to take science up Y11. If we could jump forward one year she would be taking science. The system that was introduced that has prevented my daughter from taking science was abandoned by the school after only a a couple of years. Speaks volumes for that decision. We are going to apply to Norton college to take one of their Applied Science courses, its a level 3 BTEC and may well be more suitable for her than A levels. I am worried that she is not studying science for one year and will be at a disadvantage, but time will tell. High Storrs you owe these students an apology.
  4. My child did not want to drop science, this is our issue. I ve no problem with students having to attain a B to take A level science, (well actually since the GCSE grade boundaries have changed, ie its harder to get a A, B or a C but the grade boundaries to take A levels have not maybe I do!) as long as they are given the opportunity to do so. My child despite getting TWO science GCSE's in Y9 and Y10 has been prevented from taking science in Y11 because she got C grades, which of course are a pass. Given another years study she would have no doubt improved, attained a B and continued to A level. She needed a B grade at GCSE to continue her education in Science in Y11. Y11 is 5th year by the way! We looked into moving schools but its too difficult.
  5. Does anyone else have a child in Y11 who has been prevented from taking any Science subjects in Y11? My child achieved two GCSE's in core and additional science in Y9 and Y10 at grade c, but was not allowed to take any science subjects this year, effectively ruling out science at A level. To progress to A level science students need a B at GCSE. I am finding it very difficult to understand. Is anyone else in the same position?
