  1. On the documentary I was referring to the journalist asked one of the pilots if he would shoot down a commercial aircraft should that command come. I thought that was a bit of a daft question considering the pilots job. I appreciate it is a last resort. I also think that the 'warning' flares that the jets give off are amazing. Wouldn't like to be on an aircraft and see them though!
  2. I saw on a documentary that as soon as the jets are deployed on QRA, another set are prepared and ready to go incase of another incident. We have more of those aircraft than I realised.
  3. Exactly right. QRA or Quick Reaction Alert is the UK's defence against rogue / suspicious aircraft. Like you say it was brought in following the 9/11 terrorist attack. To the OP, if you put Quick Reaction Alert into you tube there is some interesting stuff on there.
  4. I work for the police, (albeit not a police officer) and it is true regarding the amount of mental health related incidents that police officers attend.
  5. I think this is a countrywide campaign. My local pub in Chesterfield has the posters displayed.
  6. He?? I most certainly am not. I also knew one of the young females who died at the concert. Calling my comment 'Glib' is totally disrespectful to the families who lost loves ones.
  7. I think to let her back into the uk is showing a complete disregard to victims and their families of the Manchester / Westminster attacks.
  8. I feel so sorry for them. They placed themselves in that situation. Tough.
  9. I honestly don't know how they died, but I will try to find out and report back. I have only read that her first 2 born children have died whilst in Syria. I did read it in meanstream media. I also respect your opinion of her being sent to prison for a long time and the child being given a better life.
  10. Was she as bothered about her other two children who died? Did she try and get a better life for them?
  11. A martyr how?? It may have helped her cause if she had shown any remorse. As I previously said, I care more about the people / children killed in the Manchester arena bombings / Westminster attacks. That is just my opinion though.
  12. I think that making her stay there gives a far stronger message. Particularly as she wants to come back to England.
  13. Neither had the children who attended the Ariana Grande concert in Manchester.
  14. It's ok, I am 100% sure that it is legal. Also I didn't get arrested for street drinking. ---------- Post added 26-09-2018 at 20:47 ---------- At least 3 police cars came past in the time that I was drinking a glass of white wine, and none of the officers stopped to read me the riot act. (not police cars displaying blue lights obviously) I was genuinely surprised how quickly I was asked for money though and I shouldn't be because I regularly read Sheffield Forum. Like I said earlier in the thread, I didn't feel threatened by the guy at all. Older people may do, I don't know.
  15. The police work on dynamic risk asessments. What evidence do you have that the police response was OTT? ---------- Post added 25-09-2018 at 21:39 ---------- I think knives are used sometimes now, guns also. Centertainment Murder, Hillsborough attempt murder.......This is just in one week
  16. Hi Paula, Have the trees not been replaced because the felling work has stopped?
  17. I did have money on me but I told the guy that I didn't. I told him that I had a cigarette that he was more than welcome to and he seemed more than happy with that. I was just surprised (even though I follow this thread) how quickly I was asked for money. I was just having a small glass of wine whilst waiting for my train. I didn't feel at all threatened by this guy, he showed no aggression. I do feel sad about how Sheffield City Centre is now. I live in Chesterfield and it is much the same. My friend lives in Barnsley and she says it is worse than Sheffield. Bad times!!
  18. I was born in Sheffield (I now live in Chesterfield) and don't manage to get back to Sheffield that often. This is mainly due to work commitments than anything else. I do however like Sheffield. I was reminded of this thread yesterday though. I was at Sheffield Train Station and was early so I sat outside The Sheffield Tap with a glass of wine. Literally within 2 minutes of me sitting down with my drink, a guy approached me asking me for money. I said that I didn't have any money on me, as per the advice on this thread (good advice) I did give him a cigarette though.
  19. Come on Daven, be positive! I love having the wood burner on whilst sipping a hot mulled wine! I love all our seasons. I can totally understand why anyone would hate winter though. I think I must be easily pleased.
  20. No, sorry I didn't mean you say it yourself, just that you comment that other people say it. I have to agree with you, quite a few of my family members are prone to the ''Arrr much'' response. They would happily admit it too.
  21. Because, sadly, we are living in a country where we do not have sufficient numbers of police officers to attend emergencies, let alone anything else.
  22. How can it be assault? Is it not more like likely to be threatening behaviour? (also a crime admittedly)
  23. Me too! I then think of the Father Ted programme because a song by The Divine Comedy was used as it's theme tune.
