  1. I think what the 3 responders so far have failed to recognise is that there is actually a question in the heading which the poster is referring to in the body of the text and he is also attempting to use a more colloquial way of communication as opposed to a formal one. Always good to encourage a newbie, eh lads?
  2. Probably best getting it straight from the horses mouth. This is an extract from Sheffield City Council's website... "Iā€™d like to contact the Benefits Service We hope that the information provided on the Benefit web pages will answer most of your enquiries. If after reading these pages you still have a query, there are various ways that you can obtain further help and advice about Housing and Council Tax Benefit. You can telephone the Benefits Call Centre on (0114) 273 6777. This number is available between 08.30 am to 5.30 pm, Monday to Friday. You can fax us on (0114) 273 6356. 3. If a tenant is leaving their tenancy permanently and they have not succeeded to that tenancy they may apply to assign it to a member of their family. That person must have lived with them for the past 12 months. The appropriately authorised Manager in Sheffield Homes must give agreement in writing before someone can assign their tenancy. Agreement will only be given to a tenant to assign the tenancy of their home if the tenant is: a. transferring for medical or disability reasons and the new home is not large enough; b. moving to somewhere they will be cared for, such as a residential home; c. going to live with a new partner and neither the tenant's home nor their partner's is large enough for the potential assignee to live with them; or d. moving to a different part of the country and the potential assignee has strong links with Sheffield, for example they work or study here. In addition to this a tenant will not be allowed to assign the tenancy of their home if it means it would be greatly underoccupied. So in the case of a 3 bedroom house this would mean a family with at least one child or 3 adults. Hope this helps.
  4. What's happening on Valley Road? There's a number of cop cars, an ambulance and a hovering helicopter. As we turned on to Valley Road a copper stopped us and said we couldn't go up it as there had been "a serious incident".
  5. There's a small home brew section in Wilkinsons by Castle Market.
  6. Why are you getting a flueless gas fire? I moved into a house which already had one installed, along with the correct ventilation, and it's rubbish. I've stopped using it as whenever it's on it creates an excessive amount of condensation, water literally runs down the walls. I'm going to have it removed and have some other form of heating installed.
  7. I negotiated directly with the vendor for some damp treatment that needed doing. I said 70/30, the vendor said 60/40, I said ok (the vendor paid the larger sum). It was far too easy and I wish I suggested they paid the whole lot at first! I spoke to the estate agent working on behalf of the vendor and she was surprised that I'd approached her client and not gone through her - I was new to this sort of thing so wasn't familiar with the etiquette. I feel if I'd gone through the estate agent I wouldn't have got the better deal so, if I were you, I'd negotiate directly or go though your solicitor and not bother with the estate agent.
  8. Someone just told me there was a police cordon outside John Lewis when they went past at 5:30pm today. Did anyone else see it? What's it all about?
  9. I've had my mobile phone for nearly 2 years and all of a sudden, earlier this week, it stopped keeping a charge and today it won't charge up at all. Has anybody ever bought a new battery for their mobile and how much was it?
  10. I clicked on your link but a message comes up saying the page is no longer available. I looked on the Somerfields charities page but it doesn't mention anything about voting for MCCC or MCS.
  11. The Hallamshire Hospital has a walk in clinic open 7 days a week from 0800 to 2000.
  12. S61 is Rotherham not Sheffield. There are a number of towns/villages whose postscode begins with an S - it doesn't mean that they're in Sheffield it just means that Sheffield is the main sorting district.
  13. There's a hairdressers (forgot what it's called) on Chapel Walk that's got a sign in the window asking for models.
  14. I've searched high and low for a sofa that a) I like, b) will fit the space available and c) isn't ridiculously expensive. As I want something that will last people keep telling me that it might work out cheaper to have one made. Has anyone had a sofa made in Sheffield? How much did it cost and have you still got the makers contact details?
