  1. what do you expect - the star wouldn't know 'news' unless it was a council press release.
  2. she goes into mcdonalds in town, sometimes wearing a dressing gown and slippers.
  3. it was a sudden death, some poor sod who'd been dead for a while, apparently. but presumably that's not newsworthy. shame there were no 'nosey neighbours' around six weeks ago. ---------- Post added 26-08-2013 at 17:39 ---------- it's neighbourhood watch. nosey parkers never actually see anything.
  4. http://www.thestar.co.uk/news/local/sheffield-mugging-victim-could-have-been-killed-1-5985958 This is the headline from today's edition of The Star - yet another attack on an elderly citizen of our city. For people of my age (ie 55+ steelworkers who had proper jobs, could sup Wards or Stones or Whitbread Trophy til it came out of our ears without wanting to then randomly attack someone, etc etc), this sickening assault is still further evidence of Sheffield's decline (see comments ad nauseum on numerous articles on The Star's website). I cannot for the life of me remember any such attacks on OAPs prior to the mid-70s, and then they made front-page headlines in the national press (ie the old lady attacked in Rotherham by two juveniles 30 years ago). There are many serious crimes committed that do not get a mention in The Star, according to my son-in-law who is a paramedic covering Sheffield. The truth is, the rot has set in. But who will root it out - Big Shaun, the Police Commissioner?
  5. wonder if any 'nosey neighbours' witnessed this?
  6. well said, G. Members of the Gleadless Valley Community Group forum on facebook often reports suspicious activity so residents can be on the alert - though doubtless another poster on here would term them nosey neighbours!
  7. http://www.independent.co.uk/news/world/europe/the-pecking-dead-panicked-russians-contact-authorities-to-report-eerie-behaviour-of-zombie-pigeons-8778094.html
  8. Police in attendance at a house on Gleadless Rd, Heeley, just up from Jeffrey Street. Several squad cars and a van. Another event we doubtless won't read about in The Star!
  9. there were 3 events locally - a car chase at batemoor where a bloke got arrested; then the robbery, then a missing OAP (consecutive days). None of which made the star joke 'news'paper.

  11. may have been a training exercise. there's nothing on any on the police facebook sites or the SYP website. But then again, you never get to find out nowadays what the helicopter's doing now it is part of the so-called National Police Air Service, since its very popular Twitter account fell silent....
  12. thanks for your input, PT - you're right, of course, it isn't new - but disposable nappies seem to be (literally!) the new weapon of choice....
  13. there are organisations such as the Archer Project at Sheffield Cathedral. And, I would say there are more beggars around nowadays, and not just in the city centre! http://archerproject.org.uk/
  14. There's a new sport hitting - splat - the streets of Sheffield: nappy bombing. It's an international event where the anti-social and lazy change their kid's full nappy and simply jettison it and the contents out of the window, or on the nearest footpath. Gleadless Valley currently is in a strong position with the Callow Mount splatterer (in action 3.50pm yesterday) while Heeley Rise is mounting a double challenge - the Derby Street Dropper and the Denmark Path dumper. Watch this space...and watch the skies...
