  1. Apparently according to The Star update it's sodium sulphite, which can be fatal if inhaled; there are seven people needing medical treatment.
  2. Asda has been cordoned off, there are lots if fire, police and special response units up there, the word on the street is that it's a chemical spillage but not confirmed. Been there for the past half hour and cordon has been widened since initial set up...
  3. John deserves a 'Legend' status because his altruism is inspiring. John, for me is the embodiment of Sheffield with his steely determination to achieve his goal and using his warm, caring, friendly manner which attracts people and encourages them to dig deep. As a Sheffield resident I am proud that we have John Burkhill in our midst, he is a positive representative that should be celebrated nationally and as a cancer sufferer I hold John in great esteem for what he has done for people like me and in my eyes he will always be a legend
  4. I have a nest of bumble bees in the eaves of my house, they have been flying about frantically for the last few days. Every time I go outside the back door there are lots littering the stairs, dying. There are loads of them swarming and they don't seem to bother me one bit. I have had masonry bees living in the wall for about 6 years now, they don't sting and just go about their business, we co-habit happily. The bumble bees that are swarming at the moment are male, they don't sting either(unless you tread on one, on the floor).
  5. Thanks onewheeldave but I can understand peoples frustration but if you look at it objectively it's a case of the chicken and the egg, do we need a reported crime before we have police visibility; or do we have a police presence to prevent a crime occuring in the first place. I've always believed that it was crime prevention that took precedent.
  6. I understand what you are saying but I did report a crime a few years ago, there was kids setting fires in my area, I stopped a gang of them and phoned the then 101 number for the police to come and sort them out, they didn't send anyone and as a result I had a campaign against my property which culminated in a gas pipe being punctured, there was no arrests; no one was caught and my life was then a misery because I had called the police in front of them. That aside I am not asking for psychic policemen just a police presence as a preventative measure
  7. I don't agree with violence and was brought up to respect the police but I wish I would see more of them, especially in areas where there isn't any CCTV. I understand that there have been cuts to resources and the police have to reshuffle but maybe they could get rid of the red tape and spend more time on the streets. ---------- Post added 27-01-2014 at 10:59 ---------- I'm not after sympathy, we have used the police services in the past to no avail. I merely would like to see more police out there to stop the crime occuring in the first place, surely my daughter has the right to go to work safely whether she reports the crime or not.
  8. My youngest daughter refuses to report it because she fears reprisal as he was with a gang. The oldest one won't report it because sadly she feels that the police won't do anything due to lack of resources. There were no police cars at Asda on that afternoon I'm afraid which is why he felt he could get away with it. There aren't any police on Deerlands Avenue, this is the second time she has been assaulted on there; she was really afraid of going out to work this morning
  9. Last Thursday my 18 year old daughter was waiting at the steps of the new Asda for a friend when a guy walked up to her and slapped her hard across the face, she didn't know him and had no communication with him whatsoever; he laughed and re-joined his group of friends; my daughter was so shocked. On Friday my other daughter was walking home from work on Deerlands Avenue when three guys approached her, she had her earphones in and didn't see one of the guys approach her, he ripped the earphones out of her ears; causing her phone to spin on the floor; she picked her phone up and the men threatened her when she remarked on the state of her phone, she was so frightened. I am so sad that my daughters are not safe in their own community during the afternoon. I think these thugs are taking advantage of the lack of police presence in our area; in fact the last time I saw a large police presence was when they was filming a reality Police, Camera, Action type of show (they had three cars full of police to catch one lad!) If they can be out in force for the cameras; how about being out and about for the public?
  10. The victim was an adult with learning difficulties, I think that classes him as a 'vulnerable' which you would need an enhanced CRB to work with, so I'm assuming that it would be the same level of protection.
  11. They shouldn't be able to run the ice cream vans after prison because their main custom will be children, surely after preying on this poor vulnerable man, there will be a child protection issue - if there isn't there should be!!!
  12. It's hard to comprehend that this type of thing is happening in my local community.
