Can anyone recommend an optician?
Stripey1 replied to billigoat's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I went to Scrivens on Leopold Street, quick eye check and prompt delivery of glasses plus great service. -
I remember one year they produced a Red Nose Beer. It was obviously Red in colour and absolutely terrible.

What Primary School Did you go to?
Stripey1 replied to GothicCharm's topic in Sheffield History & Expats
St John's Primary School, School St (Now Blackwell Close) My favourite teacher was Mr Cleary, what a brilliant man. No teacher since has ever matched up. -
In my old local we had TITANIC beer. And boy did it taste like it had been on the bottom of the Atlantic Ocean for a 100 years. Yuk!!!

I'm afraid Law in the case of Unemployed people is different from normal law, The government was taken to the Court of Human Rights for breaching a person's rights. Or Ian Duncan Smith and the DWP have made up their own laws in spite.

Could'nt agree with you more. Some people are on benefits for all kind of reasons, yet we are all labelled negatively.

You don't get any money whatsoever and as a result you get into debt with Rent, Council Tax and Electricity/Gas Bills. I went through it and had to attend County Court 3 times for Non payment of Rent, Council Tax.

Here are some record shops I remember Revolution-Castle Market Gallery Hitsville Records changed to Jeff's Records Great Shop Vallances/Cann The Music Man-Chapel Walk Violet May's - A legend I seem to recall there was a record shop in/near Barker's Pool, I remember seeing a load of John Lennon LP;s in the bargain bin at 50p, the next day he was shot and they were priced at £5 each. There was also a tiny little shop just off the high street through a small passage, it is now a small cafe/restaurant can't remember the name. In Woolworths there were listening booths, anyone remember those. Bring back Vinyl!!!

Sheffield city centre - how would you change it?
Stripey1 replied to sparko's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
1. An Atomic Bomb 2. A realistic redesign not something out of a Sci-Fi film/program 3. Get some group who have real money to stump up the cash to pay for it I'm Sheffield born and bred and agree that the city centre is not ideal, It may have looked good in the 1960's/70's but now looks dated. And of course Meadowhall like any other large shopping centre has had a devastating effect on the high street. -
Last year my Jobseekers Allowance was suspended for 6 months because I missed an interview 8 months earlier. Apparently the sanctions were never implemented at the correct time and were allowed to build up. I saw the list of sanctions against me and was surprised to find some I did not know about. Apparently some faceless bureaucrat from Serco decides when the sanctions are imposed and you have no say in the matter. You cannot get any kind of financial help anywhere because it relies on the client having some form of income to pay back loans etc. The sanction blocks everything. The DWP has a loan scheme in place to help when someone is sanctioned, however there is a massive catch 22 in place. You cannot get the loan because you have been sanctioned in the first place, unfair or what.

For the last couple of months I have had to go down the pathway between the interchange and midland station and have noticed a young guy begging. Don't you think it is sad that he has to do this. Are there any organisations who can help him? Are there fewer beggars around these days or is it my imagination.

Abdul he could try the BTEC Software Engineering course at Sheffield Hallam University. It is a good course and I did not have half the experience your brother has. However it lasts 2 years and you do get a recognised qualification at the end of it. Well if I can pass it then anyone can. ___________________ You best keep the paperweight, looks like you need it. (Paperless Office indeed)

A4E and Emma Harrison- MEGATHREAD
Stripey1 replied to seb-88's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Seb-88 Wait till they send you on an Employability Course then you'll know what boredom and being totally demeaned feels like. There are active threads about it on Sheffield Forum if you are interested. Your CV is fine yet A4E like any other provider seems to have their own style which you have to keep to. I have at least 4 different types of the same CV. I can't sympathise with you enough.
