  1. Wrong again Max, you must cut out all this spin. The kerbside Collection funding along with the rest of the budget would have been signed off by the senior finance officers of the Council just as the Labour party's budget was so how could you claim that it would have been unachievable. if the Greens wanted they could have voted in parts, but they did not. Here is an example from Council minutes where this has taken place in relation to another matter: "On being put to the vote the amendment was negatived. The original Motion was then put to the vote and carried. (NOTE: Councillors David Baker, Andrew Sangar, Sylvia Dunkley, Ian Auckland, Sylvia Anginotti, Keith Hill, Alan Whitehouse, Clive Skelton, Peter Moore, Bob McCann, Vic Bowden, Vickie Priestley, Kathleen Chadwick, Tony Holmes, Mike Reynolds, Graham Oxley, Janice Sidebottom, Pat White, John Knight, Martin Brelsford, Trevor Bagshaw, Jonathan Harston, Alan Hooper, John Hesketh, Brian Holmes and Diane Leek requested that their votes against paragraphs (f) and (g) of the original Motion be recorded.)" (source 7th Feb 07 Council Minutes) Therefore if thereis a "will there there is a way". Here is a better example of the Greens voing in parts (4th oct 2006) (i) therefore directs that the Chief Executive reports back to the next meeting of full Council on how the Council plans to improve the current enforcement rate of fixed penalty notices. On being put to the vote, the amendment was negatived. (NOTE: Councillor Martin Davis voted for the amendment with the exception of paragraph (2) and Councillors Jillian Creasy and Bernard Little voted for the amendment with the exception of paragraph (1) and asked for their votes to be recorded.). The original motion was then put to the vote and carried. (NOTE: 1. Councillors Clive Skelton, Tony Holmes, Simon Clement-Jones, Shaffaq Mohammed, Paul Scriven, Alan Whitehouse, Sylvia Anginotti, Brian Holmes, John Hesketh, Keith Hill, Anne Smith, Mike Waters, Vic Bowden, Roger Davison, Sylvia Dunkley, Michael Reynolds, Janice Sidebottom, John Knight, Andrew Sangar, Bob McCann, Peter Moore, Ian Auckland, Pat White, Ali Qadar, David Baker, Vicky Priestley, Jonathan Harston, Kathleen Chadwick and Alan Hooper voted against paragraphs (f) to (i) of the motion and Councillor Jillian Creasy and Bernard Little voted against paragraph (f) of the motion and asked for their votes to be recorded. it looks like I have my work cut out to counter some of your post Max!!!! to give them a more "political balance"
  2. Max, Move on mate, your wife and you both lost the elections this time around. i am sure that you did not stand much of the chance in Stannington although the result in Gleadless was much closer. however Cllr Telfer did have 3 years of work to fall back upon in Gleadless but I think people there wanted a change and she lost out. Politics is a hard game,
  3. :loopy: :loopy: The Greens are not quite the political force people felt they would be, they have messed up right at the start of this important year for the city, it is clear that they have much to learn in terms of moving from a protest group to a serious political party. I remember their budget this year ignored almost all the city and had it's focus on the Council housing in sharrow and broomhall in terms of funding etc. No party Lib Dem or Labour will give in to Greens demand to spend the housing improvment funding just in those 2 areas and ignore the needs of the rest of the city. Also I feel that by pushing away the Lib Dems this year to get a seat on the transport authority from Labour that they will lose in the long term as it is clear that the move towards the Lib Dem in the city is set to continue and the few seats that they need to take control of the Council out right may well happen next year. Let see what deal they have done with Labour and if any of the policies that the Green are promoting are acted upon.
  4. The Greens slogan last year was Vote Green, Get Green. it is clear that Vote Green and get Labour is more accurate following the Council AGM this week. I understand that the Greens have now gained a position on the Transport Authority and the Tory a Committe Chair. This did not have any link to the way they voted on Wednesday, or should that be "sat on their hands".
  5. Only time will tell if the school will be saved or not, one thing that is clear to me is that if the Council had stayed in Labour's control then the closure was a done deal and it was supported by the 3 Labour Cllrs for the Hillsborough Ward at the time. Following the election this has now gone down to 2 with the election of Lib Dem Steve Ayris. Not sure if you have faith in Steve, but I will give him time to prove himself.
  6. :hihi: Well it will be interesting how Cllr Smith & Davis vote at the Council AGM and whether RedReb will be able to stand by his words that "they are of integrity" if they do not support the Labour party on the day. I will watch what Cllr Smith & Davis do rather than what they say to either the press or individuals. This year will be very interesting for the Council
  7.   "The parties tend to prioritise and therefore ignore areas they've not got a chance in. Including my old flat, I've now lived in Central ward for 18 months. I've had lots of Lib Dem mail, almost as much Green party mail, a Green foot canvasser and occasional Labour leaflets, but I've never seen or heard anything from a Conservative party candidate": Not sure why john has only had stuff from the Greens, when it is clear that the Central Ward is a 3 way marginal with only 120 votes between the Labour, Lib Dems and the Greens. This will be a seat to watch as it will be close again what ever happens else where in Sheffield. judging by the amounts of leaflets etc the lib Dems are putting out in the area they must think they can win this time round
  8. just a note, have you tried to make contact with the Lib Dems. if you are not getting any joy from your local Labour Cllr's. Always helps to concentrate peoples minds if the competition is watching their every move. The current Lib Dem leader is Cllr Paul Scriven and the Shadow Cab Member for Parks and Greenspaces is Cllr Shaffaq Mohammed. They are both Cllrs for the Broomhill Ward but I am sure they will help if your contact them, that has been my experience give them a call
  9. Hi Just seen news report that Sheffield Labour Leader Jan Wilson is suffering from lung cancer, she intends to continue as Leader of Sheffield City Council.
  10. Cllr Creasy has been on the council for the past few years, to date I am not aware of her bring this issue to a Full Council, it appears that "no political will to genuinely implment recycling in Sheffield" also extents to the Green Party as well
  11. Broomhill festival have childrens parade and a garden party this saturday on the green in front of St Marks church at 2.00pm.
  12. You better get hold of her quick as she will soon be the next Lord Mayor of Sheffield.
  13. "|You know when you're back in Sheffield when you hit the postholes in the road and see the litter everywhere!!!
  14. It seems the Greens are working in the City Centre, not had anything from them. mat be you could send some of their stuff to the outskirts of the City. What are their big issues??? Scrap our cars and ride a bike or wait for a bus that may turn up if the driver feels like it.?????
  15. Ask Labour Cllr Peter Price, if he is still in Town!!!!
