The bus driver I spoke to was asking the same.

Though the driver I spoke to today said they had now been told not to discuss the incident with passengers, which is understandable. Loose lips sink ships.

I don't think it is a case of 'loose lips sink ships', more that someone has really not thought this trough, As I said, the buses are NOT supposed to be stored there, and some knuckles are going to get rapped - hard.

I saw the two Connect busses parked up in the station the following morning, both taped off and both being examined by police CSI forensic officers.

I was told by a bus driver that the thieves boarded both busses, but only one was stolen. Apparently on previous nights the bus station security had seen youths boarding the busses and messing around in them.

So, if security were aware of the issue, why were they not more vigilant? And why were they still stored there - As far as I can determine, the Interchange is not listed as as an operation centre.

The 10000 app figures are correct I can vouch for that (considering our little failed company Yorcard designed and created it, sorry Irene, we are still an abject failure aren’t we)

the fraud bit you can’t comment on as no knows really knows what fraud goes off

but I do love how Ollie is trying to claim it as a success when he didn’t want the app in the first place….. ooops did I say that

That bit is, I suspect an 'Ollie' figure plucked out of mid-air for effect, because I bet he, or his 'advisors' don't have a clue either.

Oooh, the cynicism is strong. 🤣

The figures will be made public in accounts, surely? So we’ll be able to mark his work when that’s published.

Sorry, but some of his (and his predecessors) 'press releases' have been a little, shall  we say, 'ambiguous' , so I view them with caution. 😄

One was definitely stolen and smashed up, the other I was under the impression hadn't left the interchange but could be wrong on that. However one wasn't found 60 miles away, both were parked up in the interchange, first thing the company knew about it was when the drivers got to the buses for start of service.

Which  strongly suggests Interchange security is lacking.

Damaged one wasn't there around 9pm last night, though the others were.

Haven't been to the bus station tonight so I can't say,

There have been instances where buses have been left in bus stations/on the road till late at night but these are ones that usually require being towed back to the depot because they won't move under their own power.

I understand what you are saying in your last paragraph, and that is not the same as storing them there - if they need towing, they need towing.

The Council just love wasting tax payers money on schemes like this.

Its been tried several times over the years and failed.

While Sheffield may be a moderate sized city , the city centre is actually a very tiny circula route , there is no demand or need for these buses .... I've seen it myself when in town, when one passed me, totally empty ....

the fact that they are now being stolen only highlights another dark and miserable aspect of this dark ages city, no respect for property , as shown by the wanton graffiti everywhere , far worse than other similar cities 😕

Agree with most of your comment, too, although I would take issue slightly with your last comment.

Twonks who can start a bus a drive them a long distance .  When was the last time a bus was pinched in Sheffield  ?

The fact they can start and drive a bus doesn't make them any less of a twonk (thief, if you prefer). It is a long time since I heard of one in Sheffield, but I think it has happened before.

The problem in this case is that they were in insecure storage, in a quiet part of city. How often do you see empty buses just sat there, in the open, in the middle of the night? You don't - they are in secured compounds.

Just to update on the stolen bus front.

It wasn't one bus that was stolen, 2 were stolen. The 2nd was found 60miles away, undamaged. Both were seen together on the Parkway & Crystal Peaks prior to the one being crashed in Killamarsh.

Interesting.  I assume the three undamaged ones are now on secure storage - and the other on on its way for repair?

Yes. I assume it’s still the Yorkshire Area Traffic Comissioners. All applications for operators licences, operating centres, route changes, disciplinary proceedings, and much much more can be found there. Normally published weekly. I’d be interested to know if you find owt. You may have to go back some time. Good hunting.

They appear to have 'improved' the site - at one time I had a bookmark which took me directly there, but it just points to the headline page now - where I  can't find the new applications/registrations.

South Pennine Buses director Kevin Carr said in a statement: “Shortly before 2am two of our Sheffield Connect buses were illegally entered into by subjects.

“Shortly later, subjects stole at least one of the vehicles from its site. Subsequently during the period of the night significant damage was caused to our vehicle and that of third parties and third party property. We are working with our partners at SYMCA (South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority) and Sheffield City Council , whilst South Yorkshire Police have begun a full investigation to identify the subjects and bring them to account.

“We respectfully ask for your patience whilst these enquiries are ongoing and rest assured our team are working incredibly hard to minimise any disruption.

“We thank you for your understanding and co-operation during what is a very upsetting time for our team.”

Slight 'misinformation' in that statement - the vehicles actually belong to SYCMA - SPCT run them under contract to the MCA.

As said previously, why are they stored overnight in the open, in a very quiet area -this won't please the insurance company.
