  1. I don’t eat meat and am definitely not having children so I’m definitely doing my bit for the planet ?
  2. I am an animal lover, we’ve always had pets and I also volunteer at an animal rescue, but I completely agree with you that a dog barking constantly would still drive me around the bend. Dogs bark for a reason and it is the responsibility of the owner to find out what that reason is and to stop the dog from barking. It’s selfish and inconsiderate to both the dog and anyone in ear shot of the barking to just allow it to continue.
  3. That is a very specific and quite unusual case though, definitely not the standard situation for bitches.
  4. Yes that is one of the reasons, with the heightened blood supply there is a much higher risk of haemorrhage also the hormones related to the bitch being in season need to settle down before removing the reproductive organs, and there is also the risk of phantom pregnancies a few weeks after a season so sudden changes in the hormones due to surgery at this stage is very unfair on them, and if there was a phantom pregnancy occurring and the operation took place the enlarged milk glands would make it much more difficult for the spay wound to heal. It's standard practice for these reasons to spay at the correct time.
  5. That's not good at all! There are a number of reasons vets say to wait 12 weeks after the season to be spayed, the fact they don't do this would lead me to question using them.
  6. I wonder if they'll stay in it or decide it feels like living in a cold, bleak factory and decide to sell.
  7. The whole thing is an eyesore, I cannot believe they were granted planning permission for something that looks so cheap and nasty and doesn't even remotely fit with the surroundings.
  8. Our front door and the windows on the front of the house have been covered in ladybirds for a couple of weeks now. I had to look twice when I first saw them as I walked up our front path, I wondered what on earth it was. I’m glad it’s not just us this has happened to.
  9. I’ve noticed. Very odd!
  10. Nobody mentioned either way, it was another post that stated...'We're discussing medically verified honest to goodness life threatening allergy here', when actually the thread didn't state medically verified or not and neither did I, I never referred to any specific allergy only how I have noticed how so many people love to give things a label.
  11. You may be talking about medically verified allergies, but this is not how the thread started and it is the original post that I’m referring to.
  12. No I'm not talking about those people at all, I'm talking about people who make something out of nothing as we know so many people do. I have relatives who just love the idea of being poorly, even after health professionals have told them there is absolutely nothing wrong and they still go on fabricating something. I heard a teacher the other day saying how many children in their school now have allergies and she specifically mentioned dogs, so I asked why is this, dogs are not a new thing.......she couldn't really answer. So many people seem inclined to label something medically when it's not actually true.
  13. Or on the flip side why so many people abuse our wonderful NHS!
  14. I'm going to throw a very big furry cat amongst the pigeons here................ I think it's because people now just seem to love to label things, there has to be a name and a reason for everything in the same way that instead of children just being naughty, or having no discipline or boundaries from parents they have got ADHD, Aspergers etc, and how some people can no longer just be down in the dumps or a bit fed up they have to have Depression, or Anxiety or Bipolar, there seem to be so many children with 'intolerances' now to every food group you can imagine, I can never remember that throughout any of my school years and it's the same with the allergies you mention - we seem to give everything a name and then try and follow this up with pumping medication down our necks - it's all very American!
  15. Remember to leave it 12 weeks before getting her spayed. It may be worth getting her booked in for the op though to prevent her missing the best time for it to be done and then having to endure another season. I asked the vet if they did 2 for 1 when I booked my rescue dog in...would be lovely to be free of all that messing about :-)
  16. I’m not on my high horse, I’m stating the obvious! Accidents happen but it doesn’t mean there always needs to be someone to blame, or claim against, it’s just one of those things. Also, for your info I’ve been in a car accident which wasn’t my fault at all and no I didn’t claim....not that I need to justify myself to you!
  17. This attitude is exactly why insurance premiums are so high for absolutely everything. Accidents happen, and yes it's unfortunate and sometimes people are just in the wrong place at the wrong time but we shouldn't automatically assume we're due compensation.
  18. Staffie's are absolutely brilliant with children, which is exactly why they're known as the nanny breed. There are actually more bites from Labrador's than Staffie's it's just that the media doesn't run away with these incidents like they do with any bite from a bull breed regardless of the circumstances. If the issue with getting a puppy or young dog is due to the cost, I would suggest going to a rescue and looking for a dog that is suitable for you with regards to exercise levels, size, any history they may have with the dog and also you would be able to meet the dog a number of times with your son before making a commitment which may not be the case with a breeder. I would also suggest going for something slightly older than a pup in this instance so that you don't have to worry about house training, getting them used to a lead, being able to take them out straight away rather than having to wait for all vaccinations etc, and the adoption fees are reasonable and cover a number of things including spaying/neutering, microchipping, fleaing and worming etc which are all things you'd have to pay for on top of purchasing a puppy. There are a number of reputable rescues in South Yorkshire and I'm sure between them they will have a new best friend for your son. Good luck!
  19. Do you do online banking? If so request for everything to be paperless and they will be there for you to access when you log in and I haven’t noticed any of mine being deleted, they just sit there for years for you to download when you want them.
  20. As always it’s the minority spoiling it for the majority.
  21. I completely understand your frustration. Myself and a friend are out every weekend with our dogs in all different places and we find that most bikers are considerate and polite, but the odd few have no respect for anyone else around and ride far too quickly, swerving about on the path and will not move over for walkers. We even had one guy going so fast with his head down he hit my friend’s dog and ran over his back leg and he then had the cheek to start shouting at us.
  22. Less than a week from applying online to receiving new passport.
  23. I know the aldi at Ecclesfield is closing at some point in September for a refurb but can’t remember the dates and it doesn’t seem to be on their website. Does anyone know when it closes and re-opens? Thanks in advance.
