  1. My aunt and uncle Harry and Reenie Joyce lived on W. Wood Rd. In the 40s and 50s they had 2 daughters Rita and Hazel. Rita married a young man who's father owned/managed the Huntsman pub. I lived at 99 Nethershire Lane. I married in 1960 and moved south.
  2. My Aunt and Uncle lived on Wolleywood Rd. in the 50's They were Harry and Renee Joyce, they had two daughters Rita and Hazel. Rita married a young man who's fatherl owned? or managed The Huntsman. My friend went out with a lad who lived on there Derek Burberry, they were engaged for a time but....... l lived on Nethershire Lane from 1945 to 1960. We overlooked the fields and could see Ebenezer Church and almost to Hulley's ice cream which were on the Barnsley Rd. It was a lovely place to live, we spent hours playing in the fields, jumping the river, sledging down the hill in winter, and sliding down it on card board in summer. What a childhood compared to these days.
  3. I didn't live on homestead Road but went to piano lessons at Miss Dyson's for a few years ending in 1953 when l was 14. I believe the Fletcher 's and McCallisters lived on there one of the Fletcher was in my class at Hartley rook Rd. School.
  4. I think Brian Sleaney worked there in the 50's. He had casting land on his foot and was in plaster for some time.
  5. Hulley's Icecream, Barnsley Rd. approaching Ecclesfield. From our house in Nethershire lane, Shiregreen, you could just spot it across the fields. Lovely ice cream.
  6. Does anyone remember a boating lake at Western Park? I just looked on Google earth and it seems much smaller than I remember, but I am going back some it must have been in the 50's.
  7. Barry Green lived at no. 8 in the 1950s anyone know him?
  8. I went to HBS from 1945/6 to 1950. In retropect l think the Pymms lived further down HB rd. not so near the Ramsden's who lived at the bottom of Gregg House rd. I also seem to remember Sylvia had an older sister, but not sure about that. A lot of water has run under the bridge since then:)
  9. I don't remember Ron Pymm but Sylvia Pymm was in my class at Hartley Brook junior, l think she lived in Hartleybrook Road near to Sonja Ramsdon. ---------- Post added 28-09-2018 at 09:47 ---------- My music teacher lived in Homestead Rd, Miss Dyson/ Mrs Savage l stopped piano lessons when l was 14yrs (1953) pleading to busy at school;)
  10. Does anyone remember Strawberry Lee Lane.
  11. 4 guineas (£4. 4 shillings) 1954. Co op cash office Gower St.
  12. Thank you for your pics of FPL my wedding reception was held in the pavillion in 1960. McGreggors was a milk shake shop in 1953/4. I used to stop sometimes for a shake on my way from Owler Lane Itermediate school.
  13. I was born at 48 Wheatfield Cres. in 1939 and went to the school in 1944/5 at Gregg House Rd, but we called it Hartley Brook school. The head mistress was Miss Atkinson. Wheatfield Cres is just along Ronksley rd from Shirehall rd. Later we moved further down the estate to Nether Shire lane, I thought I had gone to heaven, our garden backed onto the fields with the brook at the bottom, we played for hours and hours down those fields. Later we went to Ecclesfield Park where there was a paddling pool, and even later when we were a little older we went to the fair that used to come near to the station if I remember correctly. As you say.....happy days. l see you live in Plymouth, my husband and I lived there years ago, thanks to the RN.
  14. Hi Joeemcon, Did Pauline Rawson go to Owler Lane Inter. A dark haired girl with a rather strident voice when she wanted. She used to make us "fusty firsts" take notice, I think she must have been a prefect if it is the same person.
  15. My Aunt and Uncle lived in the chemical yard in the 50's their name was Stanway, they had a son in the navy Eddie. I seem to remember being taken there, crossing a river and going up the other side to my grandmother's place which was a cellar kitchen etc on the ground floor of a large house on Victoria road. House owner was Mrs Marshall. I was very young and it seemed quite exciting to me.
