  1. oh ...no it was much earlier than this. It was on middlewood road same as today but it was before it was extended back and made much larger. It was back when you walked in and there was a large staircase facing you. All the electrical goods were upstairs if I recollect correctly. Thanks for the response tho! It's really cool to hear about the history of a shop I know so well, and drive past every day, but have only been in half a dozen times... Funny how things go isn't it? Oddly it seems I'm the last person remaining who was there at the opening.
  2. As a boy I remember going to see the celebrity opening of the new Co-Op in Hillsborough... must've been in the early 70's as a guess... I remember a singer, someone like Englebert Humperdink ...or maybe actor Peter Winguard, opening it... But I can't find a reference. Scouring the internet only brings up Bob Monkhouse, ...but I know that was the old Tesco (now Wilkinsons) on Bradfield Road. Can anyone help me reconstruct this half-memory by furnishing me with the missing celebrities identity?
  3. Hi. I'm considering my own small scale recording studio/rehearsal space, so I'm looking at railway arches like the ones on Princess Street, unless I can find somewhere better, or suitably cheaper. The ideal space is underground/windowless but with good access, whilst being very secure... Size-wise... well railway arch size really. Can anyone make any suggestions...? Wine cellars, retail basements, or whatever... Out of interest does anyone know what's going on in the old Crazy Daisy, or the place under Charles Street Underground? What's in the old Wapentake these days...? These are bad examples because I imagine they'd be out of my price range being right in the middle of town, and massive, but if someone knows of a space/decent sized cellar which isn't being used, and would take in the region of £300 - possibly £400 per month... maybe we can come to some agreement... Sheffield suggestions only please. Please delete same thread in other forum please...
  4. I use an X2 (...digital signal rather than analogue.) Arguably better than a cable. Indistiguishable to my ears. I think they got bought out by line 6 who make a version of the X2 now.

  6. Ah I'd forgotten about this ad... The horums don't prompt you by e-mail, if you get a response do they. Or do I have to set a flag in prefs. I'll go take a look-see. It was indeed Curt. A great guitarist. I spoke to him on facebook only last week and was surprised to hear he's moved abroad. I was always kinda hoping that if we did find a singer he'd, still be up for it, but I guess "The continent" is too far for rehearsals... oh well.
  7. yep he's about the best I've seen. But since he's already doing that stuff we haven't approached him, however when I next see the band advetised I might go and ask. The annoying thing is that I can almost handle the vocals myself, but just not quite, and I couldn't sustain it for long enough. But It'll make for awsome harmony vocals if we can just get the right singer. (with a vocally well equipped drummer too) I never anticipated being unable to secure a guitarist of suitable calibre either. (We did get a guitarist from Mansfield who was great, but due to distance couldn't rehearse until we had a full line up, which was no good for us because we need someone prepared to make the band an attractive proposition for a suitably talented vocalist, if one exists... "bad times" ) Andy
  8. Journey Tribute Band, looking for Perry and Schon. We are a *VERY* experienced set of muso's (Bass Drums Keys) Ex U.S.A. and Teaser, looking to come out of retirement and play Journey songs. We rehearse in a comfortable home studio setting and it's all very friendly and sociable. (With cups of tea/coffee/beer) Or aim is to do this really well. We don't want to work our asses off, and 2 gigs per month would be *plenty*. However we're looking at *big* money if we can do this right, and to that end we already own a 22k Powersoft/Turbosound/Allen and Heath PA, and all the top end gear you can imagine including vocal harmonisers and other effects... So... If you think you might be able to play guitar like Schon, or sing even close to Perry, please drop me a line at garbage(AT)gunworx.co.uk
  9. The "Essential Journey" are indeed playing the corporation at the 4th annual UK Journey convention this very Saturday. Starts at 2:00 pm The 2 bands start at 6:00 and finish at 9:00 pm. I have seen the "Essential Journey" and they are quite good. The bad news is that tickets are £12. Though I gather its a charity event. (I think) (I will forward more info about my Journey Tribute band mentioned by my Sis earlier if it gets any further than rehearsals.) grumpygit
  10. I used to have a motorbike, and as anyone with a bike will tell you, you can't park them safely pointing down a hill. Which means that since I live on that side of the road, my best option was to place it on the other side of the road (pointing appropriately, uphill.) The biddy which lived at the house opposite came out and told me to move it from outside her house. Of course, if she had a car, I might have understood, and obliged. perhaps if she asked nicely, I might have obliged. Maybe if *she'd* been the one paying my road tax, I might have obliged. Maybe if it was possible to park my bike in sight from my house, and pointing the right direction, whilst not facing downhill, I might have obliged. however, basically I told her to "get lost" and now, fifteen years later, she's dead. There's a lesson there though quite what it is I can't see. ...and I'm still grumpy as ever.
  11. MuddyCoffee, you're correct about the shop "Roz". Roz was the blond girl with the most amazingly perky breasts who worked in Pippys. A lovely girl and a good mate of one of my ex-gf's. I last spoke to her in her shop, probably 10 years ago, and haven't had cause to go to that end of Sheff since, so it's good to hear it's still there.
  12. It's odd that you choose to single out an ability at martial arts so heavily. Perhaps not tho. After all, you do that stuff yourself. Personally I equate "hardness" with the ability to 'stalk and destroy' (usually from behind with copious usage of baseball bat.) Unless martial arts also grants a "spidey sense" then the unknown psycho assailant that attacks from behind (from darkness), wins hands down. So, who knows who is actually hard? Maybe it is Sir "baseball bat" Cliff Richard after all? Or Marc "2 by 4 with nail" Almond? ...or Jimmy "The *******" Sommerville? or... or or
