  1. Argentine Tango is a dance suitable for all fitness levels. New classes have just started, with two different levels and friendly towards people of all ages and LGBT+. Classes are not overcrowded so you get more attention and improve quicker. The tango scene is growing quickly in Sheffield! It's a great chance to start dancing for everyone, you'll be positively surprised even if you are one of those that thing that they have two left feet! https://www.facebook.com/events/240616546306797/
  2. Oh, I have nothing to do with the dance classes (at least the salsa ones). Basically there is teacher, and he shows everybodyhow to follow the basic rhythm and do some moves. You keep changing the person you are dancing with... It obviously requires a degree of extroversion and being able to laugh at yourself, but there are beginners trying it all the time. (I am trying to convince my friends in fact now that I live in the area, i have not done salsa before)
  3. Maybe you can show up at Bloo88 or Revolucion de Cuba on salsa nights (Wednesday and thursday) THere are free salsa classes and gives you a good excuse to talk to people. The crowd tend to be friendly too.
  4. https://www.facebook.com/splectrum?fref=ts This is going to be going on Monthly, Its an Event organized by the LGBT society at the uni of Sheffield (Fundraising for SAYiT). The venue is good for music, its free entry and drinks are quite cheap there anyway so its probably worth giving it a go. First night is on Wednesday.
  5. Hey Jera, How are you planning to practice the lifts and everything? I have dome ballroom and latin for 8-9 months now. I attend same sex dance classes, where I follow so I would be interested in learning the leading side and also in lifts as is not something you can usually train in a normal class setting. I am 27 y/o. 5'9". Kind of athletic build. I have a really busy schedule though too I must warn you in advance. I hope you find someone to do what you want! Ces.
  6. Hey I am a guy who has done some martial arts before (kenpo though I am open to different options) and I really got into it. I stopped when I moved to Sheffield due to a very busy schedule but I would like to get into it again since it really motivates me to keep fit. So my question is... is it possible to get any martial arts club (or instructor?) teching martial arts in central Sheffield early in the morning (Lets say at some point from 7.00AM to 9.00AM) Thanks in advance!
  7. I may be interested since I am into Swimming and Martial arts but I would like to give a go to something more team-oriented as, apart from a few months playing handball as a teenager, is something I have never done before. However my job is quite demanding and many times I will be working for longer than the usual 9-5. So the day/days when the training would take place may be an important issue for me if I liked it and where to join the team. I know it sounds quite demanding, but I think being honest is always better than disappointing people afterwards. So I prefer to collect some information before making a decision Cheers
  8. I guess that was probably and anecdotic incident (I’m sorry it happened to you Bexbell). I have heard mixed opinions about Dempsey’s but it doesn’t seem an unfriendly place at all. It’s a bit risky to judge without knowing the other side or then the complete story. I’m still planning to pop up, even if it has to be just by myself Pinknic looks great, though I’m surprised that is programmed for mid September and not sooner, since the weather is still so good (Though to be honest I don’t really have a clue about how the weather is like in September here).
  9. It may seem a rather silly question, but, given that it seems younger people do not go to any of the bars until its late (I guess mainly to dance, flirt and listen to loud music)... How does someone that is new in town make some friends? Any useful advice? (its a honest question ) I mean... going into some club by yourself is always awkward but even more so if you cannot find people around your age (25 in my case).
  10. Well It is a bit difficult to explain to be honest. Its similar to kenpo karate but on its origins but it has been brought directly from japan/china (its a mixture of martial arts from both countries) to Europe. Its pretty new and in constant evolution. You basically train combat (Semi contact continous combat) and self defence techniques ( joint locks, throws and strikes including knee and elbow). Its quite complex and difficult to explain here! Its really big in Japan and getting bigger in Europe and Brazil. I was told that there were also pretty good instructors in Scotland but they moved to other places or stpped teaching.
  11. Hello there! If classes are not too crowded I woul also love to give it a try. So I may pop up at the begginers class tomorrow or some day this week (I did kenpo kai for half a year but since I cant find any dojo In Sheffield I think Ill really enjoy Kickboxing too) Cheers!
  12. I have been practicing kenpo kai for some months now here in Spain and I am moving to sheffield this summer for quite a long time. I am really enjoying it so I would love to keep practicing the same martial art. I know this kind of posts pop up here quite frequently, so sorry for that, but I did a quite extensive search and couldn't find anything so if anyone can help me it would be awesome. Thanks a lot!
