  1. This happened to us a few months ago. My husband injured his cartilige and tore his ligaments and A&E didnt give him any crutches. We put out an appeal on freecycle and got some though. Apparently it depends who you see ...
  2. Our cats did something similar to this, if we gave them pieces of chicken or fish (not cat food) they would take them to under the dining table and eat them there. They also did the putting the food on the floor thing too. Their best move was growling and eating when they were given tuna. I miss that.
  3. Over the past year or so I have had to visit the above places a lot. I have been in the Hallamshire a few times and have had to go to outpatients. I have also had to go to the childrens for children's clinic appointments, day surgery, and once an emergency. Each and every time parking has been a nightmare. I know its a nightmare too for people who work there. If you actually get in the Hallamshire and find a space its usually got a huge concrete pillar which is difficult to negotiate with a people carrier, but I usually manage it. I did get wedged in once ... but thats another story. This week I had to park up around the back streets near Richer Sounds to visit the minor injuries clinic ... and then limp in! Fortunately it wasnt serious. My worst experience was about a month ago when I had a child in the back who was projectile vomiting. The children's car park was of course full, but I noticed a space not far away near the west end. I was turning right towards it and a couple stepped off the kerb just as I turned, simultaneously, vomit was ejected in the back. I parked up and had the man of this charming pair pound on the window of my car and accused me of trying to kill him and his Mrs. I pointed out I had a seriously ill child I needed to get to hospital and he actually told me to watch out where I was going or I would put more people in hospital. By this time I was crying, the child was crying and sick was all over the place. I grabbed the young un, paid for the car parking, and set off towards the hospital and ... someone pulled up behind me and said "would you move your car up a bit, we cant fit ours in?". I rather foolishly did this, but as my husband said I should have told them all to F-off. If you are ill, need treatment or have a sick child it shouldnt be a nightmare parking your car. If you have read this far, my point is, I have to make more trips to the above hospitals over the next month and Im dreading it. Public transport isnt a possibility due to my own disability and childcare pickups. Does anyone have a parking suggestion that is polite, helpful and useful for me? I am seriously considering having a taxi because its getting so stressful, but with several visits to make it will be costly.
  4. Thank you. I went to autonet and their website said in order to quote you must meet the following conditions. One of them was that your ncd must not be used on another car. At the moment the cheapest option is to go with admiral for both cars and actually pay more to insure my first car as their quote for the second car is cheaper. I just dont get it. I have actually phoned up a few insurers today as well as obtaining quotes on the net. Im being quoted silly money because they wont mirror the NCD.
  5. Just bought a second car, older than our current family car, basically as a runabout for me. I insure our first car, I own it, and have 7 years NCD. I was told I needed to start again with insurance for the second car i.e. no NCD. Our current insurer doesnt do multi car insurance. When I tried an insurer who did (Admiral) they quoted over the odds for our current car (£100+ what Im paying) plus quite a large amount for the second. We thought about taking out insurance for Husband as he will drive both cars too, but I will take over driving the older one in all probability. He hasnt had his own insurance for about 2 years, just a named driver on mine, so he has no NCD. Whats the best way to do this?
  6. What harm can this possibly do? If I was the headteacher and you complained, I would suggest you found another school.
  7. I am fairly sure that we pay for bank holidays, but Im going to check now. I think at ours they often offer you another day instead though. I think they did this at Christmas. Its a good point, as I always have mondays as a nursery day and a lot of BHs are Monday.
  8. This thread had me really confused. I started reading about buggies and it got mixed up with nursery choices somewhere along the line. The reason I checked back is that due to fourth baby I have just bought a Mamas and Papas aria because I want a light double that is NOT the Maclaren cos I hate the handles. If anyone has a M&P aria twin let me know how you find it, and also if its worth getting a primo viaggio (sp?) car seat to go with it when you have different aged children.
  9. Can you recommend a removal firm with a proper large removal van please? The guys I used last time couldnt fit everything into their van and at the end of the day it was too late for a second trip, so I know I need a proper big removal vehicle as we have lots of stuff. A man and van just wouldnt be adequate.
  10. We are attempting to buy at the moment and our mortgage is incredibly slow and the lender keeps asking for more and more different pieces of information, although tells us he has agreed to lend in principle. I would go to another borrower but this one is by far the best deal I am eligible for so I am sticking with it. Im now at the stage where Im waiting for the valuers report and getting a bit nervous about that too. The whole process started in February, I cant believe its taking so long. When I was looking, there were no 95% mortgages and 90% ones were at higher rates.
  11. Hi, please empty your message box as Im trying to get in touch!
  12. See if you can borrow someones twin/tandem buggy to see which type you prefer. Practice getting it in and out of the car, folding and unfolding too. I havent had twins, but have had 2 twin buggies to accommodate two children close in age. I have a Maclaren rally twin which I have a love hate relationship with. Yes, it folds nicely, but thats about all. When Im pushing it the handles are so far apart it doesnt feel comfortable, plus it feels like the handles are moving apart all the time. Also I dont find it very good to steer, despite swivel wheels which can be turned on or off. I also have a second hand Graco Stadium tandem. I find this easier to push as it has larger wheels, but if you have a heavier child in the front seat (18 months onwards) kerbs feel a bit heavy when you are going up and down. It would take up a lot of room in the car boot, thats why I have the Mclaren. So basically I have two doubles, but still havent found the perfect one. I know a lot of people rave over Phil & Teds but they are generally more for a baby and a toddler, probably not for you. I would be quite happy for you to come and have a play with our pushchairs and Im sure other forummers might be willing to do the same. Its an expensive commitment so make the right decision. If you like proper prams, can I recommend you look at Emmaljunga. Expensive, but very good. http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=120405795852&ih=002&category=66700&ssPageName=mem_guide:1&rd=1 http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/EMMALJUNGA-TWINSPORT-PRAM-PUSHCHAIR_W0QQitemZ270373353339QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUK_Baby_BabyTravel_Pushchairs_GL?hash=item270373353339&_trksid=p3286.c0.m14&_trkparms=72%3A1688|66%3A2|65%3A12|39%3A1|240%3A1318 Emmaljunga also do a carrycot twin I think.
  13. I have got some reusable nappies I want to part with and would like to advertise them for sale on the forum. Is this possible? Also we are looking for a cot, so I could do with browsing the ads to see if I can get one second hand. If you can help please get in touch.
  14. I am in receipt of DLA lower rate and know it can be an ordeal claiming it. But as I recall, dont you need to have had your disability for at least 6 months before you get it?
  15. What sort of support is available to an adult who wants to live alone, is diagnosed with Asperger's, but doesnt have their own social worker? Is any financial help available to help furnish their first home, for instance?
  16. Yes, Ive been told about that by the Halifax too. I will PM you.
  17. Can someone recommend a whole of market mortgage broker who operates locally and is willing to come and see us, rather than do things over the net/phone?
  18. A broker told me today that no one is lending 95% mortgages any more, you need at least 10% deposit. Is this true?
  19. I have 3 in each of my larger community tanks. Give them a nightly algae wafer and a chunk of blanched cucumber though, the algae itself isnt enough to sustain them.
  20. Thank you all for all the responses. Our computer went down last night so we only just got online after reformatting. Someone at Meersbrook has promised me a pair and I will collect them tomorrow. If they arent suitable, I will be back in touch. It was the British Red Cross I was thinking about, but I couldnt remember the name!
  21. We need a pair of crutches. My husband fell and tore the ligaments in his knee. We have visited A&E and all they did was advise rest, ice and pain killers. Our Doctor gave us a referral form for physio and said they might give out crutches, but obviously there is a waiting list for this sort of service and we presume it wont be immediate. Can anyone help please?
  22. I apologise if this has been posted already, but we have noticed that the 20 and 20A are terminating at the Blackstock Road end of Hemsworth Road, and the drivers are turning everyone off the bus there. Obviously the 48 will be affected too. Thought this might be of use.
  23. I have driven past a house to rent on the Greenhill main road. I have googled for it but cant find it. Can anyone tell me which agent it is with please?
  24. Cross stitch, a stitch like a backslash ///// - you can form herringbone with two rows of this, also 'Y' stitch (cant explain) serpentine stitch where you do two rows of normal slip stitch and weave another colour through them like a snake, box stitch (basically make little boxes) ... I could show you but cant tell you!!!
