  1. This is the best stuff!! I tried most of the good quality allergenic puppy foods eg Burns, James Wellbeloved, Arden Grange and Wafcol salmon and potato. They all gave him diarrhoea. As soon as we started introducing orijen puppy he began to poo less. Then his poos firmed up and now he is doing great on this. He now goes 3 times a day instead of 7-10. He is also clean at night and often dry at night too. (He is only 3 1/2 months old). I Orijen has no grain in it, so it made us think he is maybe allergic to grain. It is a real relief to find a food that suits him and he enjoys. Unfortunately, we have to get it by mail order and its not cheap. Bradway pet stores stock orijen but Im not sure what variety they have in. I got mine from mail order from Bern Foods or Zooplus. Bern Foods is really fast for delivery.
  2. Good. Are you advertising it in The Rotherham Advertiser or Rotherham Record too?
  3. This one is a very similar colouration to the one we had when I was a child, he was called Laddie. They were called Alsations by most people then! He was a lovely dog with a lovely temperament and put up with allsorts from me when I was little without a complaint. He also used to guard my pram apparently, and watch my toys when other kids were playing in our yard. If another child took one of my toys, he would take it from them and bring it back to me! He loved to carry things back from the shops too, and was very good at fetching slippers and newspapers! He had a thing about apple pie and if it was mentioned he would always give an excited woof as it was his favourite! He also liked a particular brand of ice cream. But hey this was the 60s and no one worried about their dogs diet. My mum used to cook him horsemeat from the market. Thanks for sharing the picture and letting me remember!
  4. Do you do a collection in Rotherham pets at home? (Parkgate)
  5. I have been looking out for those reasonably priced fruit trees that often appear in Morrisons or Lidl at this time of year. Have I missed them? Im looking to create an orchard area in my new home so I want quite a few. Has anyone seen any at a reasonably price please, preferably somewhere easy to get to. My nearest garden centre only has those pot grown ones for about £28 each!!
  6. When you say chicken carcasses what do you mean exactly please? Are pigs trotters fed raw? (I remember eating these as a kid, cooked obviously). Do you do anything with the oxtail? Anybody know a source of these things in Rotherham area please?
  7. Do you feed your dog raw bones? Which ones are safe? Where do you get them from?
  8. Thanks, I have one of those in the cupboard. Might bin it. Not worth the risk is it?
  9. So I need to trim his willy hair then? Just lop it off at base? I really hadnt heard of this before and this is my third male dog. Admittedly I had short haired dogs before.
  10. This will help I go on the above forum for grooming tips but I have to steel myself as it is a bit American and can get sickly.
  11. You can do two small bunches, you can trim, or do as Im doing at the moment. Not using gel, but just using a small cotton wool ball and dish of boiled cooled water I just slick the hair out of his eyes, either upwards between the eyes or downwards over either side of his snout. You can also put the hair in a piece of tissue paper (not nose wiping tissue, the other stuff thats a bit firmer) and secure it with cotton wound round it and tied to make a little topknot. There is something called Pure Paws Ultra spray gel for dogs but I dont know if its any good. I didnt know that about the penis hairs though!! Its not in my Yorkie book.
  12. Crates are great. I have a 14 week old pup and its invaluable. I dont work, but there are occasions when he is left in the crate eg hospital appointment, Christmas shopping etc and he has been fine. He goes in it overnight without a problem too.
  13. I saw the programme too. I felt sad for the dogs, because I love dogs. I have tried and tried to see the attraction in Staffys though and I just dont understand. Sorry. The current phase of their popularity is really worrying because they are just acquired by people who think the dog looks tough. Then you get them saying, oh he's really soft, he's never hurt a fly. But they are such powerful dogs I really dont think they can be trusted with irresponsible owners. Its a recipe for disaster. I would never let my children anywhere near one. Im sure this will prompt a lot of outrage though, but Im not on my own in thinking this. This is not a go at the responsible dog owners who genuinely like this breed and can look after it properly. But sadly they are in a minority.
  14. This is how I used to worm my feisty cats. Get a pill ready, coated in butter. Have a helper on hand. Throw a large bath towel over your cat and swaddle them like a baby. No limbs should be poking out so use a large towel, well wrapped. Put buttered pill in mouth. Massage throat. Butter helps pill slide down. Is there a palatable granule that is suitable maybe available over internet?
  15. r Good luck with finding the dog. Strix, is it worth bothering microchipping our pup if he has a tagged collar? Or is it a case of belt and braces? If a chip reader doesnt pick it up its fairly useless anyway. How much does it cost?
  16. Is this acceptable? I have two bags of dried puppy food (Pets at Home and Pero) which didnt suit our pup. They only have small amounts missing from them, but they are opened. They have a long date. Is there a rescue that can use these, or dont they take opened bags? It seems such a waste to throw them out. If you know anyone who can use them please let me know. Alternatively, are there any collection points in the Rotherham area for this sort of thing?
  17. I am holding off buying more Arden Grange for a while as we are having a spot of diarrhoea after changing to it. I have used a prebiotic, but he isnt eating much today, though is well hydrated etc and the diarrhoea has stoppped now.
  18. Thanks, thats answered another question. I had heard Waitrose stocked it but obviously not the full range. Why Arden Grange dont put this on their website is beyond me!
  19. QUOTE Katkin: PS, I've never used this but apparently a good way of stopping cats from messing where they shouldnt is by thoroughly cleaning the area (warm water and washing powder) then spreading a pice of slightly crumpled fresh tin foil over the spot - it has to be a good siezed piece obviously... unquote This method really works, I have used it myself. You must use biological washing powder and hot water. Another alternative is glueing cat biscuits on a piece of card and keeping this in the area of the mess (after the biological wash powder cleaning). I must admit I really dont know how you cope with a litter tray in your bedroom. When I had one in the kitchen it was bad enough! But obviously if it works for you and you can cope with it, carry on.
  20. I am in Rotherham now. I am starting to wonder because although his poos were a nice brown colour, my God they stink now! Im wondering whether to stick with the stuff that gives him green poos that dont smell that much!
  21. This food seems to be doing the trick, but mail order can be costly unless you buy large amounts (not a good idea with a young yorkshire terrier puppy). The only stockist I have found is one at Hillsborough (fishers?). I dont live anywhere near that area and avoid it like the plague. I got this info from Arden Grange. Is there a local stockist that is easy to negotiate by car (and easy to park outside) Please?
  22. DAP dog appeasing pheromone Also pets@home advice above is really good. Crates are excellent training aids I ve just found!
