  1. hope every one had a very good Christmas and all the best for the new year year.would be nice to hear from tom r & all the old ones again.
  2. Thanks for the reply BUSHBABY &BAZEN about the previous occupiers of the Wards house. I was only 4or5 when they left, only BS may have remembed them.Has the Parsons Cross Hotel closed down? my mum used clean there sat & sunday mornings.Didnt get freebies like we did from the chippey! Ive read a lot of bad comments about the Magnet,i was born across the road and all my dads family(six uncles two aunties) drank there. This was in the fifties, there were some rough guys but never any trouble. If a women walked in the tap room all the swearing stopped,if it was Sunday they were called yorkshire pudding burners. When it closed at two on Sunday all the men played odds&evens(tossing)us kids had to act as look outs, the police came in unmarked vans to catch them betting, how times change.
  3. BAZSEN who lived in the house next to us,remember they used to keep chickens,i was very young when they left. Only time i ate chicken at christmas,They gave us a bird it was hung for two days, my mum came screaming from the kitchen said that it was flapping about. Think i will have to have a word with your seconds, maybe bread & pork dripping at ten paces on the eight foot,Ive got the high side. Im sure Anne can remember that first kiss!!!! Bit thick how do you send all these smiley faces on the right hand side?
  4. Hi Barry, nice to hear from you.Seem to recall all the mothers were nice, always made you welcome when you called.I dont think anyone had a lot of money then, but they could always put food on the table. This at the time of NO tax credits,no help with rent or rates, you paid your bills or went without.Sound like my old man.Ill let BUSHBABY know when i call up for A pints.Think Tony F had a sister BS might know!
  5. Yes they did have a jag.Remember fixing the garage roof when home on leave.I think Mr augur had cancer and died just before the family moved to Peterbough. The Fairchilds was a name id forgot, think the oldest son was killed in a car accident doing his national service in Germany.Mr Senior was a drinking pal of my old dads.Reading some of the older posts i remember when the young guy got killed by the concrete pipes, that was on the site where the petrol station was built.BUSHBABY did you play in the old airaid shelter at the far end of the field where you lived? Bet pete &john did.BALDIE fancy a pint if i come back to sheffield for a night? Get in touch if you can get away from your new wife!!!!!PETE LEE
  6. Exchanged a few letters with miss burns when i joined the army, think her boy friend put a stop on that, wise man.The Duncans lived at 396 Alex was the same age as Eddie Augur and me.A rather youtube incident happend with a upturned bike, sister turning the peddles, wet yellow stream through the back cog, bike jumped, loud scream, had to be careful you stood on the RIGHTside at the urinals.Dont have contact with the rest of the family,my choice.Suppose we will have to higher Hadriens wall to keep Tommy out after self rule.Last time i past thro Pete b served me a pint at the Tavern.Arnt these clever machines, only just masterd the ATARI. ---------- Post added 27-03-2013 at 18:17 ---------- no photos bengo only brought meat no pentax.
  7. Is there no pubs left on the cross? all i read is the taven is gone, the x hotel also.I retired at 55 ten years ago.How many times you been married?Ionly managed once, and now have lived with a young lady for 21yrs very happy.Went back to welding and worked around europe for a few years.I believe T wilson is now a carpet mogule, every bodys made money but the good guys.It would be nice to hear frome TOMMY R again had some good nights out with him.It was sad when i heard about pete h old ones should go first.Itend to ramble when get on here must be all the years of missing the x but not realising.Hope i might see you all soon,is there still a horse & cart service from Chapletown LOL.Ask ben to get back on line and ALL the bushes.
  8. TH glad you got my name. Thought the 1947pl was a clue.I would never have got the name of that pub,but remember we started, first pint in the Adelph till they demolished it to make way for the Crusible.Old times seem easy to recall but i still forget if ive paid fuel and concil tax bills from last week.Seen all the posts from our famous author MiniBush,im sure he was too young to have help build the cycle track, seem to recall we sat him on the grass with a rusk and his ostermilk, then used his pram as a wheelbarrow.Only joking glad he got back from gulf w1 ok,im sure with a few x guys the yanks would not have been needed, straight to bagdad.Bushbaby a good test of your recall who lived in the houses before the Goodinsons& the Siddalls? Hope people keep using the forum now ive found it!
  9. I think we were all a lot braver when we were younger.I remember being in the pub opposite the city hall when you grew two teeth in your knuckles? Im sure it was an accident. Are you still on the cross, its been good seeing all the comments from the people i knew. Are you still on two wheels or given in to old age.
  10. Just found this web site, what good memories it brougt back.I left colley road school chrismas 1962,remember all the teachers on the previous posts. My form teacher was Mr Holding.Ive not seen any class mates mentioned.Roger Ancliffe Garnett marriot Pete Rose Vera Tordoff Ann Crooks Liz Tandy Pete Dyke.Iwas sorry to hear about Mr Burgin he started a 4th & 5th year football team, that was when the 5th year had just started. There has been a lot of funny post from BUSHBABY,i remember him but knew his brothers better.Didnt John marry Christine xxxx Mr Kay.Im sure Baldie in the cycle speedway threads is TH remember being on the back of his bike going to Long Eaton speed way, neverbeen on one since.Iworked abroad and met guys from Sheffield, could not believe the stories about the x.So sorry to hear about Pete Howe. His brother BEN was always KENNETH when his mother anwered the door.If any youngsters read these and think we talk about the past too much, when youre old theres more past than future. Is BUSHBABY keeping fit because of all the extra scraps from Mrs Lee. Thanks to all the people who provided the Sunday joint via Bengo.
  11. I believe he helped build the track at the bottom of his garden, raced then joined the army. ---------- Post added 13-03-2013 at 16:13 ---------- I must know tigerboy.Just found the parson cross web sight, brought back a lot of very good memories.Very sorry to hear about pete h.Give my regards to ben, knew him very well.
