  1. Will you be putting the comedy nights on still? Used to drink in White Lion years ago but only times have been in recently were for the laughs. Will go again if it's back on.
  2. I remember a pancake/crepes place in Orchard Square years ago run by a Dutch lady. Was really nice. I wonder what happened to her?
  3. Been to Cosmo a couple times, once in day and once in evening. Pretty much same selection of food both times. Nothing special but massive choice of average food. Went to U buffet last night for first time. Great choice, great taste. Also have have grill where you can have anything grilled and brought to table, tempura station where you can have anything fried and brought to table and a wok station where they will freshly cook you any Chinese dish and bring it to your table. Ladies and Gentlemen we have a winner!
  4. We went last month and it was OK. Going again tonight.
  5. Just to let you know, we managed to save the nursery from closure. A combination of new funding and parental involvement ensured its future.
  6. The council own the building and rent it to Barnardos who run the nursery. The council used part of the building for outreach projects related to children and so shared some of the running costs of the building. The council now say they cannot afford any of these projects and so have asked Barnardos to pay full rent and running costs which they cannot afford so the nursery is looking like it will close. Because the council is unwilling to reduce the rent the nursery closes, children lose education, parents lose childcare and a purpose built nursery lays empty losing the council revenue from rents and rates and costing additional security fees and repairs when its vandalised after being closed. The staff lose there jobs also.
  7. China Red, off the side of the Moor, is hands down the best authentic Szechuan restaurant in town. Not to everyones tastes though! Wong Ting have an excellent english-style chinese menu for those not used to real chinese food. Ive heard good things about that 3 Corners that opened on Glossop Road by Upper Hanover Street but ive not been yet.
  8. When I was growing up on Carter Lodge Avenue in late 70's-80s the following lived in those first few houses: House on End(Birley Spa Lane) - Days 2 - Old Couple can't remember name 4 - Old Couple with son can't remember name. think old boy was called Doug 6 - US! Wiles 8 - Tuckers 10 - Knowles 12 - Wilsons 14 - Mrs Marriot
  9. Every child at 3 gets 15hrs of childcare funded by central Government. Children of 2 are about to be given funding but only a few places in the city can provide this, one of which is out local Nursery which is due to close! I'm not sure what you're implying with your question? The main issue most people have is that these nurseries are being closed with only a few weeks notice in the middle of the school year so it makes it very difficult to make alternative arrangements and so is likely to cause problems with work etc. Our nursery, the Little Green House, has enough children attending to make it financially viable but the council will not allow the staff to take over the nursery and run it themselves. A cynic might say that the council are happy to let the nurseries close so they can try to blame the 'evil' government and by extension the local Liberal Party in the hopes of scoring a few cheap points for the upcoming council elections.
  10. We had a door frame and door fitted at the bottom of our stairs a couple of days ago and it was a great job well done at a reasonable rate so if anyone wants a good joiner then I'd recommend they contact Andy of AndrewHallJoinery.co.uk His number is 07747 026254.
  11. Amigos on London Road do lovely food but I don't know if it's somewhere to take someone for a special night out.
  12. Poseidon on Abbey Lane is consistently good.
  13. I thought that Number1 was closed, that is the one in the old Gas and Electric building yes? Jumbo was ok years ago but last couple of times we went it was very poor. We won't be going again. Wong Ting on Matilda Street is great and all you can eat is cooked to order as you want it. Recommend it .
  14. They do some kind of burger contest at Swanky Frankies on Woodseats. tbh though it's not much of a challenge.
  15. We have the same problem with the Little Green House nursery at Lowedges. Only a few weeks notice to find alternative care in midterm with all the local nurseries oversubscribed.
