Leppings Lane roundabout alterations
feelinolder replied to busterdoos's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
Last Saturday morning at about 09:30 I drove down Catch Bar Lane, Leppings Lane and all the way to and through the new layout (the lights were with me) and up to Halfords only having to stop at the traffic lights on Halifax Road controlling access to the Halfords slip road. I may just have been very, very lucky but I never managed that in years prior to the changes. -
Two teenagers were making darts (paper planes) and throwing them out of a tram window today. I wish I was man enough to have tackled them about it but I just ignored it. Sign of the times.

Begging on West Street/Division Street
feelinolder replied to SNES's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
I always say " I'm sorry I just give a fiver to an old boy down the road five minutes ago". -
Yes it does. The thermocouple is bang in line with the flame.

Thanks for that.

I bought a new portable gas heater about 14 months ago (online) and haven't actually used it a lot so far. I'm still on my first bottle of calor gas. I used it this morning for about 30 mins and suddenly the flames went out. Empty gas bottle I presumed but it feels heavy and I can hear a sloshing sound if I shake the bottle so I know it's not empty. Now the pilot light ignites the gas without a problem but when I release the button after the recommended 10 seconds the flames die. I don't want to mess around with it myself. Anyone recommend a place that services these things?

Another mistake by the Star!
feelinolder replied to Reesh2052's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
The Star is the way it is today because people stopped buying it. Times change. There are other ways of getting news. Today's Star is only a fraction of the quality it used to be because I guess it only has a fraction of the budget and staff it used to have. The online edition is free and you get what you pay for. Stop moaning. Don't read it if it's that bad. -
Attacked by eggs in Shirecliffe from car
feelinolder replied to Cycleracer's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
The chavs are breeding and bringing up more chavs just at a time when falling Police resources mean incidents like this are not able to be dealt with. Plus all the Roma and similar associated problems means society is going to be in big, big trouble very soon. -
Greaves Opticians (Rayners) Hillsborough
feelinolder replied to feelinolder's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
It hasn't actually been the small independent 'Greaves' for quite some years - it was bought out by a national company called Rayners. I believe they themselves have now been taken over by another large nationwide company who have decided to close that particular shop. -
Just been told that they are closing down this Saturday. Shame as it has been there for many many years.

Just look down the page a little and see the thread called 'Military Parade - Wednesday'.

Not in my experience. Perhaps in the very early days but the later ones are superb.

Surely these are outdated now and not required in a modern society. If all prices were rounded up to the nearest 5p we could get rid of them. It would also do away with the annoying 99p price tag as in £1.99 because it makes it sound cheaper than £2.00 (does anyone believe they are getting a bargain by saving a whole 1p)

Which is better - Kindle or Sony e-reader?
feelinolder replied to Grahamfff's topic in Computer & Tech Chat
I purchased a Sony PRS600 touch screen over a year ago and am really pleased with it. It is a nice size and light enough to hold comfortably, really slim and quite stylish in its brushed silver finish. Ebooks are easy to purchase and download from stores such as WH Smiths and Waterstones and there are many sites which supply a large choice of quality free books. The internal memory is enough to hold more than enough books but storage size can expanded via the two memory card slots provided. Books can be stored/sorted in either the default title or author mode or you can create your own criteria. The screen is not backlit because it uses e-paper technology making it easy on the eyes and text size is changeable from small to extra large making text easy to read. Some critics say the screen is dull and can be difficult to manage in poor light - but surely the same can be said of real books. I find the on board dictionary useful and is easily activated by tapping the word twice using the supplied stylus or a finger nail. You can even use the stylus to write your own notes/comments, highlight text etc and then choose to hide or display these until you require them again . Useful for students etc. Battery life is pretty impressive so far and charges from a PC via the supplied USB cable taking a couple of hours from completely drained. Other file types such as doc, pdf and txt are supported. OK the kindle has a wireless connection and the Sony does not but I wanted to purchase a book reader and have the laptop and mobile to access the web. I don't really need the book reader to connect to the web. -
Be aware that there is a scam going on currently where someone rings you claiming to be from Microsofts Technical Support team and they say they have detected viruses on your computer which if you don't get rid of will severely damage your PC. They then tell you to log onto a particular website which is supposed to show you proof that your computer is infected with the nasty virus. They then say they can fix it if you follow their instructions. Sometimes they may ask you to download software which allows them to take over your PC so they can later get your bank account details/passwords etc. Sometimes they just give you some bogus instructions which they claim will remove the problem and then they try to charge you for doing this and ask for your credit/debit card details. Sometimes they will say your computer is too badly damaged by the virus that it cannot be repaired and they try to sell you a new one. So be aware and don't fall for it.

Loud music early hours S12/S20?
feelinolder replied to Sheff2006's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
This bloke dosen't care about anyone- he enjoys the grief it brings. Usually he is off his head on either booze, drugs or both. You can hear the noise in the next street. Neighbours have all tried to sort it out over the years but the council, Police etc wont do anything. It's not a council house so council can't evict. He's had warnings but nothing is ever done. Thank God for ear plugs!! -
Loud music early hours S12/S20?
feelinolder replied to Sheff2006's topic in Sheffield News & Discussions
It was probably a guy on the street where I live - miles away in S35!! - his music (if you can call it that) is regularly so loud it's like a street party or carnival etc. -
Sheffield is full of,??leave the rest up to you

People wearing clothes they really shouldn't. Like the ever so slightly overweight young lady walking in front of me in Fargate today with her unattractive midriff on show and her black thong proudly on display. -
