  1. Out of interest, have any of the new micropubs closed down, or are they all still up and running?
  2. Just around the corner from the Dove and Rainbow, but have had no feedback on this at all yet. I drive past it every weekend but have not seen much going on
  3. Wow, so many new things opening all the time, some survive, some don't. I guess I should go and take a look
  4. I had the dubious pleasure of drinking in this famous establishment twice, once in 1986, I think I survived a quick half of bitter before being swamped with people with plastic carrier bags offering knocked off goods. The second time in 1996, survived a full pint this time, before being swamped with characters with carrier bags selling dubiously sourced electrical goods. Fascinating snippet of life though it was in here
  5. Division street has changed a lot in the last few years. A lot of the bars have changed their 'offer' to reflect the change in footfall, ie The Old House going more upmarket. Not sure if it (Div street) is really any busier or not TBH but it is certainly changing, and not exactly the HUB of social activity it was a few years ago. The popular 'drinking circuits' are always changing as time goes on
  6. I really must try this place out. I only remember it as a toilet, so things can only be better than that
  7. I wish that was true! Only this morning a notorious WHITE VAN decided to overtake me at the traffic lights in Broomhill as he wanted to jump the red light, and narrowly missed a 52 turning the junction! And, a very well mannered cyclist actually said 'thank you' when I gave him plenty of time and space to turn right in front of me, even though I had a bin lorry right up my ****
  8. This is real soap opera stuff, drama in Broomhill! I think I went in once when it was Pink Panther, but never when it was Shiraz
  9. This week, like last weekend, looks to be very busy once again, alongside the HRH weekend at the O2 Academy, so come down for the ultimate rock and roll start to your weekend.
  10. Did it become a restaurant and then close again? I never thought it work as a pub again, if Wetherspoons give up on any location, its means usually its a dead duck as far as a a pub business is concerned
  11. Oh yes it will be the same chap that has had it for many years still then. Always a great, witty man. I suddenly fancy a slap up Chinese feast.....
  12. Once a thriving pub that lived by its lunchtime trade from what was then Midland bank across the road. be a shame not to see this back open
  13. Yes I just heard from Martin Crosthwaite, its under off at present, so something should be happening there. be great to have it back as a great local
  14. If anyone knows of any kittens or cats available, I am seeking one for my house, lost my two elderly cats a few years back now and am wanting another.
  15. Not everyone has to be an adversary! I have nothing but respect for road users who respect other road users...other road users who don't cut in front of me and force me to do an emergency stop, who don't scrape their cycles down the side of my car when trying to squeeze through a narrow gap, who don't wave their fists at me because I follow the rules of the road and they don't, who don't zig zag across the road and then at the last possible minute change lanes without looking, who don't shout abuse because I happen to be in 'their cycle lane' as I am trying to avoid an oncoming bus overtaking a parked car and given the correct signal to do so......the list is endless nice, well mannered, considerate cyclists, I am delighted to share the road with you
  16. In one's opinion, what would one's opinion be of the BEST year for the great British Pot Noodle? My favourite year is the early 1981 vintage Chicken and Mushroom, just a few years after the inception of the classic pot feast. Certainly THE most tender, rich, full-bodied delight, fused with a variety of delightful seasoning and subtle hints of flavour. These 1981 pots are now in big demand, and only improve with age:). In my noodle cellar, I have a great archive of classic pot Noodles, many flavours, dated 1979 to 1985, surely it's greatest period. Second in line for the throne would be the 1984 edition of the Beef and tomato, also a very memorable experience. Ones to avoid though, the 1992 Chicken and mushroom vintage Pot was a shocking experience, and subject to much after dinner debate
  17. It was still Pink Panther in the late 1970's, not sure about early 80's
  18. never be the same if you can't light up a huge Cuban imported cigar to enjoy with the brandy and mints
  19. Always liked the Canton orchard, but not been for ages now. Heard a rumour it was shut down? Drive past every day and can't say I have noticed any lights on.
  20. been in a few times late evenings and rather like the darker interior, it was far too bright and garish before. Good selection of ales, very pleasant to sit in
  21. I usually have Radio Sheffield on in the car and I must say, Toby is easier to listen to. The replacement chap? Well, he has a very high voice doesn't he!
  22. I had an encounter with a chap this morning at about 7.05 am in Broomhill, near Morrisons, who was rather unsteady on his feet, and hailed me in a fairly loud voice something about needing a fiver (Yes, not spare change, but a whole FIVER) to get to Doncaster to see his Sister who was having her leg off. Since the chap was holding a tin of lager, and seemed a 'little intoxicated', I concluded that his sister, if she existed at all, was probably not having her leg off in Doncaster, and even if she was, she would not appreciate a visit from a heavily intoxicated relative
  23. I can't think of ANYWHERE in Sheffield I would not either drive around or walk around quite happily, no worries at all
  24. I had a quick look around the outside recently and I cant see any obvious signs of vandalism, unless someone has broken in and trashed the interior? Might be worth a look over though, but can't see it listed on Crosthwaite commercial site at present
