  1. Worked a treat. A much nicer route. Now, would it save time turning right at the Blue Ball at Wharncliffe. Will this bring me out near Rhinegold nurseries??
  2. For 10 years I have travelled either a628 via Shepley coming out at Jet garage and down Halifax Road or New Mill, Hade Edge to Tankersley then Halifax road; a long journey home. I will try the new route via Middlewood Road.
  3. Thank you so much Mogwai and AMR67. This was a far better route. A bit of a wait on the bridge at the bottom of Jawbone. A lot less stressful, although won't be good in the ice. If I come off the Stocksbridge by-pass at the junction before Wortley will it get me to the same place? Advice appreciated.
  4. Unbelievable. 12 minutes wait at 1930 tonight to go towards town. I stayed at work later to limit the delay. It was too misty for Jawbone. Not sure I can take another night of this. Is there a way of expressing a concern?
  5. Thank you so much, I will give this a go, probably get well and truly lost first time, but has to be better. Is planner 1 around to note concerns and offer solutions?
  6. Thank you for this. But I am not sure where it is. Is this a suitable diversion from Huddersfield to Crookes? I was stuck in traffic again tonight. 19 minutes from Argos to the roundabout.
  7. I agree, a real mess. The lights give little priority to the heavier flows of traffic heading into and out of town. At least 3 minutes wait for each light change, which causes a tailback at the Sainsburys lights. At 7pm tonight it took 13 minutes from Lidl to the Wednesday ground. Additionally, the drains were all blocked due to the work, leading to torrents of water. A shambles of a road system; please adjust the lights.
  8. Help. I live in Crookes and I have no idea where to go to watch it. Any tips?
  9. We had a great meal. There is a lot of choice on the food and drinks menu. We had crab and squid for starters; well presented and tasty. For main course we had sardines and flat iron steak. Tasty and excellent value. No room for puds. A lot of choice on the wine menu. The staff were so lovely and the environment interesting and vibrant. We will definitely go back.
  10. There is a lot of selfish waiting here. On Sunday, a woman sat for 20 minutes waiting for a space, causing a problem for a car trying to reverse out of a space. There was one space at the end, but her car was too big for it. I had assumed it may have been an urgent wait to pick up a prescription, but no, after 20 minutes waiting she poppers out for a take-away frappe. Oh how people chuckled in the pub of this sacrifice for a chain cafe coffee.
  11. A great looking place, food can be really good. No veggie / mushroom burger, which is a bit lazy. A good menu otherwise.
  12. A few tears ago we had a bus stop right outside of the train station. This was a godsend for my public transport commute to Barnsley, especially when it was cold, dark or wet. There is no way I could do that commute in a reasonable time with the transport changes. It is a shame that commuters are not considered in such a positive way as in Manchester. I too have used the free shuttle, it is marvellous.
  13. This is the organising company, not SCC. http://companycheck.co.uk/company/02893678/THE-SHEFFIELD-MARATHON-LIMITED/directors-shareholders#people-summary Although it seems the water company are at fault. Not sure why they didn't.t use a local water company, as there are a few local firms. Or, as with other races, use a supermarket as a sponsor.
  14. My thoughts to all of the runners who have put in hours and hours of training, the sacrifices made, the cost of entry, kit and travel. Alongside the pre-run anxiety. All for nothing.
  15. I am not sure if the reports are true, but the 1/2 marathon is cancelled due to insufficient water supplies. Does anybody know if this is true? If so, this is a shambles for this city.
  16. I take mine to Twiggs in Crookes. Not a specialist but great people, especially the owner. There is an official dealer and service area in Hillsborough; otherwise Chesterfield is the closest.
  17. The thread has been closed on this, which I find odd, as a lot of people will be affected by the building work. I wanted to add a comment, so have created a new thread. Have you noticed that the trees just after the roundabout near Hillsborough have been removed. Is this linked to the building work? It is very sD that nature is destroyed.
  18. I have never seen it or heard of it. I eat out a lot in Sheffield. Any links to have a look.
  19. A lovely haven from the crazyness of West Street. Great cocktails and friendly staff. If it is still the same owners, they are descendants of the building name. They were lovely too.
  20. My worst experience EVER from a Sheffield cafe or restaurant. I rarely complain publicly about local businesses and try to deal with the owner/ manager to resolve the issue, however, today I have been left with little choice. On almost all occasions we choose to avoid chains and use local businesses, but I regret this today. I have used this cafe fairly regularly under the old and newer owners and whilst I knew the service was slow and the place a bit grubby, I always looked through this because of its idyllic location. However today is the last time I will give this place a penny of my hard earned cash. Please take heed. It started prior to ordering. A woman came to ask for a napkin. The older woman taking orders replied rather brusquely, why, the customer replied that her daughter had a piece of cake without one. She grudgingly handed it over. A bad sign on two counts; serving cake without a napkin and then questioning a customer. My husband and I chuckled about this and what the owner might say if they were aware of the poor treatment of customers!!!! We ordered and paid for drinks and sat in the sun. We waited and waited and waited. We had frozen food in the car and as the temperature was rising, we needed to hurry. My husband advised against asking if they would mind prioritising our drinks, given the napkin response, however I ignored his warning. I went into the cafe and waited quietly. I heard the older woman ask for the girls to come out of the back to help with drinks, nobody came out. There was a tray with two stained mugs on the counter, which I had assumed were dirty. I explained my predicament to the older woman, asking if she could prioritise my drinks as we had waited a long time. What a mistake. She turned around, glared and started a tirade of abuse about other people waiting, being busy, it being Mother's Day and I had to wait my turn. I responded sharply about being in a hurry and would she do this, accepting it was unfair on other customers who had waited longer. She then encouraged a regular customer to say I was being unreasonable, who I ignored, as it was nothing to do with him. She pushed the tray with stained mugs towards me and said these drinks were next. She then shouted that she was refusing to serve me and would give me my money back. She slammed a calculator in front if me, I am not sure why and went to the till. I asked for her name. She spun around, Shouted Jayne and offered to write it down. She then said, I am not sure what you will do with it because I am the owner. She then laughed. So I said I would tweet and use forums to complain. She walked away and I had to ask for my money back. This was the owner. Unbelievable. So here I am on the forum and I may have to report her for food hygiene judging by the state of the mugs the next customer was to be served in. Never ever ever have I experienced this. She should not be running a business and then setting such a bad example to her young staff. Rant over. I went home and made a lovely Coffee, with a blend from Pollards, in clean cups.
  21. Surely they should have been pink to celebrate the change in the law allowing gay marriage.
  22. http://www.babbleandspeak.com/kids-clubs/ I have heard these are good for children.
  23. NUM HQ We went to a pop up bar in Leeds in an unused building. Great.
